#41 Repotting a 50 + Year Old Christmas Cactus Heirloom Leaves and Seeds #houseplants #gardening
So happy to finally repot this Christmas Cactus! I have put this task off for years because it is pretty big & I was afraid I might snap off a big branch section - or some of the many other things that can go wrong! I just wish it wasn’t stressed when I did it - but hopefully fresh soil will help it recuperate faster!

Starting Zucchini in July - Heirloom Leaves and Seeds #gardening #garden #zucchini vegetables

My heirloom zucchini seeds were getting very old & although you can save heirloom seeds, the zucchini/squash family is very diverse and will easily cross if many plants in the squash family are grown. I planted some of older heirloom zucchini seeds this spring & none of them germinated. I kept forgetting to get more seeds or if I looked for seeds they were not heirloom so I didn’t want to buy t...

      Congratulations on the new property! 😊Besides providing food for monarch & tussock caterpillars, milkweed flowers are a great nectar source for pollinators. Milkweed also supports beneficial insects, which will help keep insect pests in check.

    This tea sounds wonderful! It looks beautiful also. I dont have my own Roses but when I can get some organically grown ones I will make this. I think it would be really nice to have a few friends over for tea and serve lattes. I drink mostly water, with occasional herbal tea and caffeinated tea. Thanks for the recipe!

    I am growing sweet peas for the first time this year and I’ve learned patience is key. I soaked my seeds for around 36 hours, then placed them directly into the soil in a prepared bed. I watched and waited and finally, when the temp and water levels were just right, they started emerging. I really think my fairy magic had a small hand in this because nothing happened until spruced up her fairy house just a little, and then wham! They started waking up. 😂❤

    • @Heirloom_Leaves_and_Seeds
      @Heirloom_Leaves_and_Seeds 4 месяца назад

      Sweet peas do need a few extra steps to grow & patience is definitely key, but they are worth the extra effort. 😊 I find that most of the time the seeds know just the right time to germinate. A little sprucing up never hurts! 🌱❤️☀️

      Luckily our cats do not bother our chickens. They usually just lay around and watch the chickens scratch around or ignore them. I think carefully and slowly introducing the cats to the chickens work best. I would especially be careful with any small bantams. 😊

    • @Heirloom_Leaves_and_Seeds
      @Heirloom_Leaves_and_Seeds 5 месяцев назад

      Hello & welcome to my channel! 😊 I do sow directly into the ground whenever possible because I find that it is easier and less maintenance. I like to direct sow zinnias, cosmos, and basil for sure. A few reasons to start seeds indoors is if they take long to germinate, they are slow growing, if I want to get a head start before my last frost date, or if the seed is very small. It’s really personal preference and whatever works best for you. 🌸🌸🌸

    It’s fun to hear what other people are growing for cut flowers. I grow a lot of cold hardy flowers because I live in zone 8b. My favorites are Nigella, Bells of Ireland, Larkspur, Dara and Carrots. I let my previous year’s carrots flower because they are so strong and last a long time in the vase. For summer flowers I mostly grow Sunflowers, Dahlias and Gomphrena along with some grasses. Unfortunately, the florist I grow for doesn’t love Zinnias because the petals dry out really fast so I only grow a few for fun.

      Bonjoir! C’est une vidéo intéressante! 🌺🌺🌺🌺Les Zinnia sont fabuleux! J’ai quand même des problèmes avec la présence des limaces. J’aime aussi les Gomphrena et les Pavot chiken. Ces derniers sont très jolis. La fleur est grosse et rose. On dit d’ébouillanter le bout de la tige et de déposer les pavots dans un vase avec de l’eau froide. J’ai bien hâte de savoir s’ils vont durer au moins 1 semaine.

  • @cbak1819
    @cbak1819 7 месяцев назад

    Hi .. thanks for sharing.. do you cut calendula at bud stage as they show color? I'm ready to give up zinnias. This year is my last year growing .. due to powdery mildew. Mulching and succession planting more often I and praying helps.

    • @Heirloom_Leaves_and_Seeds
      @Heirloom_Leaves_and_Seeds 7 месяцев назад

      Hello and you’re welcome! 😊I like to cut calendulas for cut flowers when they are 1/2 way open in the mornings. To dry them I like to harvest the flowers in the morning but after the dew has dried and the flowers are fully open. Zinnias are definitely prone to powdery mildew. Especially in areas that are hot and humid. Giving them some extra space so they have good air movement helps. I do succession plant in case of windstorms, excess powdery mildew, or they just tire out. I have heard that the Oklahoma series zinnias are more resistant to powdery mildew, I will pay more attention this year and see if it is true. I hope this helps & hopefully you have a powdery mildew free year! 🌸

    Ageratum needs to be fuzzy looking before you cut.

    what were your thoughts on godetia in TN conditions?

      Godetia didn’t work very well for me. I always try any new flower at least twice to give them a second chance & to make sure it wasn’t an error on my part. I will give them another shot in the future because they are a beautiful flower. 🌸

    i have discovered sunflowerselections last year, i believe they are the main procut series breeders, but they have many other varieties on their site. the prices are unbeatable, and the packaging they come in should help the seeds last for many years so no worry buying larger amounts. highly recommend!
