#58 Update on the Winter Garden - Gardening - Heirloom Leaves and Seeds - Cold Weather - Vegetables
After the snow melted it was nice to get outside & see how the garden was doing. It is so amazing how plants can withstand freezing temperatures. Even tiny plants, like my wood creek statice that are currently just a few inches across! I hope you are having a wonderful winter!
Thank you for stopping by! 😊

#57 When is Enough, Enough? 2025 New Year’s Resolutions Seeds Enough Seeds Heirloom Leaves and Seeds

When is enough, enough? As we enter the beginning of 2025, I begin to think about the areas in my life I would like to improve on. One major area is to continue to minimize, declutter, & save money. To be more intentional with the things that I bring into our own home. That includes seeds. I need to convince myself 😊 that I have enough and that less can be more in the seed department. With less...

#55 How to Overwinter Dahlias Outdoors Zone 7b Heirloom Leaves and Seeds Dahlia Gardening Flowers
Просмотров 155Месяц назад
How I like to Overwinter Dahlias in Zone 7b in raised beds. This method has worked for me for the past 3 years. I like it because there is no digging every year and the soil keeps them from drying out or rotting. The key is having good drainage. Maybe give this method a try with a dahlia or two to see if this easy & time saving method would work for you if you are in a warmer climate. Dahlias a...

In this video I wanted to talk a little bit about Mahogany Splendor Hibiscus. It’s an interesting plant that I have dabbled in overwintering. The zone hardiness varies depending on the source. I have seen zones 7-11 to zones 8-9. I think we are on the edge in zone 7b & I think if I planted it in a warmer microclimate near our house I might just get it to overwinter outside. My Beatrice grows into a beautiful ball so I would toss those tubers and try a different source… or just grow those in a garden not as a cut! Bees love dahlias like that too

I hope that your zinnias do well for you in a tunnel this year! 🌸Tennessee summers are great for zinnias - sunny & hot. I will appreciate my little volunteers a little more this spring knowing that they can struggle in other climates. I struggle with a few plants, like astilbe, that don’t like our hot & humid summers. ☀️ Happy growing! 🌱

Hello, I'm starting flowerfarm. I was thinking of making some mini bouquets as wel with short stems. I practiced growing flowers last year and I made al lot of small ones to. Hello & congratulations on starting a flower farm! I think it’s very important that you sell your bouquets for what you are comfortable with and what you think they are valued at. Pricing also depends on where you will be selling your bouquets, how many stems you include, & the height. I sell mine at five dollars each and my customers love them. 🌸😊🌸

That’s a great resolution. Unfortunately to make it harder they’ll be at all of the stores now too! Seeds equal time eventually but they also represent potential😂. What would the equation be?! I got that fish pepper too! Interesting video I'm in the Pacific Nortwest zone 8b. I''ve left my dahlias in ground for three years now. They came back bigger, stronger, and more pest/disease resistant than the first year, plus I had blooms around six weeks earlier than if I dig them. They were starting to bloom when everyone in the PNW was putting their's in the ground. I did dig them this year because I want to move the bed to a more favorable location. Some of the tuber clumps were monsters, I had to break apart with a shovel. I'll let these heal over for a few days, then I'm going to try an experiment, I'm going plant half the tubers outdoors in their new location now (Dec.22) and store the other half in case my experiment doesn't work. I suspect it will work, but I'll find out in spring Good luck with your garden, and cool video, thanks for sharing! 👍

Zone 7B/8A, N MS. I've grown Mahogany Splendor Hibiscus for the past few years and this is the first year it bloomed due to a very delayed freeze. Although not freeze hardy, the plant does have enough time to bloom as you get near the Gulf Coast. The blooms are the same shade as the foliage so are hard to spot but are very much hibiscus blooms. Mine have not had enough time to dry on the plant, so I am not sure if the seed is viable, but I have harvested some faded blooms. Last weekend's frost got coleus, but I had several plants still blooming until Thanksgiving night when our temps dropped to 27. We have several low 20's in the forecast over the next few days.

Those little bouquets are so cute, and I like how you don't have to use a rubber band to hold them together.

Violets believe they are ground cover in my VA yard. I was pulling them out of my flower beds until I found out they are host plants for fritillaries. I’m fine with violets taking over the grass. Have at it. I still want to have some room for other plants in the beds!

I know what you are talking about. The violets love the shaded areas around our house & are everywhere. I checked & two types of fritillary caterpillars use violets as their host plant in Tn. I will have to keep an eye out for them! 🌸

Just bought property and I'm am learning about all different types of flowers. Besides caterpillar snacks, what are the benefits of milkweed?

Congratulations on the new property! 😊Besides providing food for monarch & tussock caterpillars, milkweed flowers are a great nectar source for pollinators. Milkweed also supports beneficial insects, which will help keep insect pests in check.

This tea sounds wonderful! It looks beautiful also. I dont have my own Roses but when I can get some organically grown ones I will make this. I think it would be really nice to have a few friends over for tea and serve lattes. I drink mostly water, with occasional herbal tea and caffeinated tea. Thanks for the recipe!

Thank you for the video. You have beautiful flowers in your garden! I am living in a rental at the moment and unable to grow flowers or vegetables, so it is so nice to see what others are growing. Beautiful bouquets also!
