I watched the video up to the point where the dough was put in the bowl to rest. Did you spray the bowl with oil and did you cover the bowl. I am looking for the printed recipe (link is not active). Do a lot of Finnish people use real cream or half and half in their recipe or is it always made with 2% or whole milk?

I am 83 years of age, I was born in Finland in 1941, I now live in Australia. This concert is so dear to me as I heard most of the music un my childhood. I had a gypsy girlfriend who's parents escaped from Germany.

There is no question that I am a part of this. For the first time in decades of frustrating research, all the pieces have fallen into place. I have found many variations of the family name: Karthinin, KARHINEN, Karjainen, Karjalan. I have my father’s dna uploaded at Ancestry. He has passed away now, but was born in 1924….an expert will have to tell me if this works? I am alive with dna, but I’m a female. Extensive research has been done of the 5 siblings whom emigrated to Minnesota. Our family farm is Hytjanstorpet in Grue on p.104-105 in the Grueboka :Finnskogen gards-og slektshistorie. Not sure where to go next, but I have many options via the video.

I'd like to know how many people use far infrared sauna in your country. The fininish sauna on showing is last generation used but not now ,right?

Its interesting to see this video. A few years back I did a DNA test and found out I apparently was 17% Finnish. Asked my grandfather about this and he told me I was a part of the old forrest finn families. He then also gave me some names to look for, and I have later found out that I am a direct descendant of the Raisainen family, as well as Lehmoinen and Mullikka. My great great great great (yes 4) grandfather was Peder Pålsen Raisainen (also called Hallsjø Pekka). He apparently went to Sweden on his old days according to the storys. But his father again (so 5 greats from me) is buried at the Church on "Svullrya" and there is a funny story about his gravestone. I have been there and seen it, and according to the stories (if they are to be believed), he (Pål Olsen Râisäinen) apparently found this stone in the forrest before his death, and tok it upon him to bring it home. Ment as being used in the future as a gravestone for him and his wife. But on his way home he dropped the stone and it cracked. This gravestone can still be seen at the church, and it has the crack visible. After learning about my family from the area, I`ve kind of wanted to "move back" there as I am somewhat of an introverted guy appreciating a quiet place with not too many neighbours. And maybe actually living in the forrest. I currently own a cabin in a nearby town (Våler) that I bought from my grandfather a few years back. But this is not related to the old family at all.

It's a kind of stove heating way, right? I know sauna heating way have:low EMF infrared sauna, red light sauna, stove sauna.

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing sauna in Dortmund, Germany. Spent 6 glorious hours there. I now yearn for a sauna here in Ohio. Oh, I know they exist. But they are not like European sauna.

My wife is Finn from the U.P. and we have a camp in Bruce Crossing. We have moved to the New England area and I have been, "tasked" to build us a Sauna :) Great information, eh!

1950-60s when finnish peacekeepers were in middle east one of the first things they built was sauna. Even it was allmost +50 degrees centigrade outside 😆

Thank you for this marvelous performance. This has produced so many memories of my youth. I was born in Finland in 1941, I now live in Australia. I met Sibelius by accident in 1956 when I was visiting my grandmother, she lived near Ainola.

Thank you Frank for a most interesting presentation. I was always told my Finnish ancestors were born in the sauna because it was the cleanest place. I wonder if they had savu saunas.

Just finished building my new traditional wood heated sauna here in Finland. Great to see the heritage live in kicking in the sauna belt!

My grandparents (Herman & Hilda Kuona) had savusauna in Marlborough NH on their farm. Unfortunately the farm was sold in the early 1960 and it was destroyed. It had a vent on the side wall where the smoke would go when warming the sauna. As kids we would go in when it was being warmed. You didn’t touch the walls or you would get black. The raised platform where we sat above the hearth was ok to sit. Of course, we had a brook nearby where we jump in after having our sauna. The sauna also was used to dry pole beans.
