I still remember my own parents getting very defensive and upset because 'they met while at my age', and I pointed out that, at their age, the average cost of a higher education could be paid off in a couple of years, at best, and they didn't have to work two part-time jobs just to cover food, living expenses and college expenses because they didn't feel the need to help pay for my higher education like they had my older sister. I understand the making excuses works for most people, but not everyone, especially if the person you are talking to has chronic health issues. Before my gf and I got together, she thought I was blowing her off because I had to cancel multiple times as my chronic health issues kept flaring up. So it all depends on the person and their situation. Otherwise everything else seems on point.
