Raising AMERICAN Lamb And Wool In The West (Part 2)
The next step in our journey of raising American Lamb and wool in the west brings us to summer on the ranch! We are busy bringing our sheep home from the spring ranges, and on to the summer permits on the mountain. It takes a lot of trucking, trailing, and moving to get everything back to where they need to be! Summer is a busy time on the ranch, not only are we moving sheep, but we are right in the middle of growing feed for the winter and spring! It is a good thing that we have a lot of good help around here to get everything done! Come join us as we see how the herders live, and how they are able to get their amazing, unique, and difficult job accomplished, with the help of border coll...

We look forward to this time of year all year long! Summer is finally here! It's time for the sheep to head to the higher country where they will spend the next couple months. It's a hectic time getting everything on the mountain, getting all the farming done, and everything else going on. and we need to get them there on the back of a horse and in the back of a semi truck. We love to be on the...

Summertime is finally upon us! We have made it through the spring and lambing season, hauled out of the spring range, and it's time for the best move of all. We’re headed for the mountain. We have grazing permits that allow us to feed our sheep on national forest ground during the summer months. Luckily most of them are relatively close to home. We go from being spread across the entire state o...

Chasing Cows, Weighing lambs, and shoveling 1000 pounds of manure!
Another good one Morgan.
Thank you!!
I've said it before, but I'll say it again, what beautiful country! Two random questions: You say you buy whatever the herder asks for. What's the weirdest request you've ever had? Do you ever have someone come buy a single lamb? Or are they all sold in big bunches at the end of the year?
It is beautiful!! Well really nothing to crazy 😂 whenever they come back to the ranch they run down to Walmart and get stuff so really they don’t ask for anything to crazy 😂 we do sell individual lambs to people yes! Mostly just people around here just because we don’t advertise. But everything else all goes to one buyer that takes all our lambs
@@themorganmickelchannel Well darn. I was hoping for a good story! Thanks for the reply!
Great job 👏
Thank you for watching!!
What month is lambing for you?
We lamb in April/ may!
Is there a reason you guys choose to run wool sheep over hair sheep?
We are able to get two crops, one from the wool they produce and two, from selling the lambs which are usually bigger from wool sheep than hair sheep! But that’s really it!
Do y'all sale your sheep ?????
Just the lambs and the old ones every year!
A lot of people out there have no idea what it takes to produce food. Great video ,Thanks 😊
I know it! Hopefully people that watch will be able to learn something!! Thanks for watching!
Nice video
Thanks for watching!
What percentage of your ewes need help lambing?
That’s a great question! Really not to many! We go through them every year before they lamb and if they have a big bag or big tits that will be hard for the lambs to get going we make sure to give them extra attention and they are marked accordingly. But other than that most the ewes don’t need to much assistance!
@@themorganmickelchannel thank you! Great information!
Ill say it again.. this should be on National Geographic channel!!!!!!!!!!!! Great content and great production!!!
😂😂 I appreciate that very much thank you!!!
How many sheep does one of your shepherds watch?
It depends on the time of year and permit! Anywhere from 700 to 2500
How many ewes do you run?
Enough to keep us busy for sure 😂
Great job. Love lamb, and I'm glad there's someone still running huge herds. Here in Montana, all the grazing permits went away. A lot of producers went out of business. Sad deal.
The industry is definitely changing! It’s hard to see the changes!
Nice video
Thanks for watching!
No loss is miraculous!,, bien bien
absolutely!
Awesome
thank you for watching!
Lòoks like West Texas. It gets old after a while.
yes it does!
Ever ran any sheep up near Heber, UT?
Nope! But we drive through there all the time!
Awwww sweetness is a cute boy feeding his horse ❤❤❤😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!!
He's a cutie!
Thank you!!
So beautiful..! Bless you all❤❤
Thank you!!
What breeds of sheep do you raise?
Rambouillet!!
I just found your channel through Bronks & Donks. Loved this video. Drone footage was awesome!
Thank you! And welcome!!
thats my dream life goddamn
It’s pretty great!
Just only do videos like this. My father and uncle told me ten years ago when I thought we should make RUclips videos to make some extra money. If I had time to make videos means I wasn’t working hard enough or long enough. Haha the list of broken shit makes me smile to know I’m not the only one that struggles.
😂😂😂 always something to fix on a ranch!!
Beautiful!! Is this near Ephraim/skyline? Thanks!
Yes it is!
@@themorganmickelchannel awesome! Hoping to be down that way this weekend. Love your videos! My dad lives in Florida and started sending me them i started the first one and thought looked quite familiar. I looked back at some footage I had from 2022 when I believe we passed paths with your sheep.
@liftman3334 that’s awesome!!! It’s a beautiful area!! Oh really!? What were you doing up this way?

@liftman3334 that’s awesome!!!
You're doing great with the drone footage.
Thank you!!
Morgan, you do great on the drone footage, beautiful country you live and work in.
Thank you very much!!! I appreciate it!
Do you have a connection for someone that makes a shepherd's stove?
I don’t! Sorry!

Unloading at night can be rough if you don't have the right light.
I know it!
never loaded sheep but seems alot easier than pigs
I’ve never loaded pigs! But sheep aren’t too bad!
Why don't you use mules ?
Simply because we don’t have any 😂 just have always had horses so that’s what we use!
I love it
Thank you for watching!
I. Love it
Thank you!
We hardly ever see any lamb in the store, is most of the lamb exported? Thanks this is a wonderful view of the big picture. 😊
It’s hard to see in stores honestly! A lot of it goes to resorts and cruise ships and some gets exported! That’s a great question!
Dammm
😂😂😂
Need more pot bellys!
Your livin the dream!!
One nightmare at a time 😂
What did they weigh on avg and how old are they?
Never as heavy as we hope 😂
That is a lot of lamb 🥩
Oh yeah 🇺🇸
How long do they get finished at the feedlot? Do they get a corn finish? Thanks for the videos.
To be honest with you I’m not sure! Depends on how big they are when they come in, how fast they gain to the target weight and yeah I would imagine they are finished on corn!!
Where are they headed? Looks a little crowded
We’re just dropping them off in a feedlot! This is just the unloading chute. They are counting them through a small gate on the other end that’s why they are all in there!
Wow never seen so many
Pretty neat huh!
So glad I found your Chanel! I grew up with a sheep herd over in Loa. Miss it everyday. These bring back so many memories of our time up on the top of Boulder, and across the shepherd.
I’m glad you found it too! That’s really neat country up there!!
Damn herders got it made these days
We try and make sure they are taken care of!
I am 75 years old when I was 16 years old, I work for stringers sheep company out of Nyssa Oregon my dad also worked for a stringers I was the camp tender and I and the sheep herder trailed from Weiser Idaho to the seven Devils mountains. It took us a month to get there. I stayed there😂 for three months and moved camp about every 10 days. I stayed there until September when school started again. we had 1000 u and they had twins.
That’s awesome!! Love to hear the history of our industry!
Beautifull. What kind of sheep breed
Rambouillet!!
WoW! That’s Tremendously Awesome!
Thank you!!
Love the content and sure appreciate you bringin it to us! My three cents, would definitely prefer natural sounds versus the added noise. Cheers! 😊 Edit: Also, I'm a youtube expert so....gotta be worth somethin😅
Thank you for watching! I will definitely do some more with no music! Just natural sounds thank you for the suggestion!!
Herding sheep with a drone. Brilliant. We always used motorcycles.
We do that too! They both work!!
