    One cute result of Fermat’s little theorem is that in any base b, for a prime p coprime to b, the recurring radix expansion of 1/p will always have a period length that is some factor of (p-1). For instance, in decimal, 1/13 has 6 (a factor of 12) recurring digits, and 1/41 has 5 (a factor of 40) recurring digits. If b is a primitive root modulo p, the period length of 1/p is (p-1) itself, the maximum length by the pigeonhole principle. In that case, 1/p is cyclic. Such is the case for decimal 1/7 (6 recurring digits) and 1/23 (22 recurring digits).

      Follow the method Christee described. In her example, there are three linear congruences with index ì being 1,2,3. If only two linear congruence, index ì would be 1,2. The table of columns r, m, x, rmx will have two rows (not three rows). Christee, you description was clear and methodical. Your intention was to describe the process using an example. Good presentation.

    For 1d.) I believe you have interpreted it wrong. The value of the C'(t) become less and less negative 12<t<20, since C''(t) is greater than zero, this indicates the change in temperature has a decreasing rate of change as the temperature "changes" and flattens out to a particular value.

    • @camwizemusic2802
      @camwizemusic2802 5 месяцев назад

      Since C'(t) is becoming less negative that means the values of C'(t) are increasing toward 0. Increasing rate doesn't necessarily mean larger magnitude it just implies the C' values are becoming less negative.

    This was great!! Thank you for explaining the answer of -1 vs 0.999. Your tip about verification by hand was very clever and clearly worthwhile!! In my opinion, I am not a fan of the function and time value chosen for this problem. It seems to be more assessing students' numerical analysis skills of approximation errors with a calculator than it does calculus which seems a bit sneaky. But maybe that's just something to add to my list for next year to warn my students about - don't trust your calculator TOO much! Appreciate you taking the time to dive into that one!
