Great knive, but for me personaly the best of the best is south pole. It has perfect blade for my needs.
If I had to choose only one, I'm going to the South Pole also. It's a fantastic knife ✨🏆✨
Very nice to hear your voice again! I enjoyed the video whilst having my own adult beverage! Look forward to the next video
Thank you for the kind words, I'm already plotting and scheming on the next one while I figure out how to do part 2 for this Hyzer featuring some real world testing and disassembly footage. What kind of video would you like to see next... pocket knife, flashlight or perhaps a fancy machined titanium pen 🤔
I do have a few pocket knives I have to get up but now I'm curious about the pen. Ah who am I kidding.....you post it I'll watch ☺
@lisacarr8530 Sounds like an open invitation for one video of each 🤣 Done and done ✔️
Square cut threads are stronger, but in this application the benefit is that they’re harder to cross thread.
@@jth_printed_designs Thank you for your insight, much appreciated 🏆
No music needed. It makes your videos obnoxious and annoying to watch with all the crappy bass noise.
If you subscribe my next video will have ZERO music 🤔
Since everyone is posting their failures: I bought a new ultratech 2 years ago. Would fail maybe 1-100/200 times. I bought a gen iii combat troodon earlier this year. Zero failures after god knows how many deployments
That blows my mind, zero failures 😳 Perhaps it's my aura 🤣 One of these days I'm going to send this thing in and see if they can tune it up, it's still not great but unfortunately it's just kind of sitting around lately for the most part. I'm looking forward to checking out one of their new zero blade play models at some point 🎉
@EDChero if you can find one. Doubt they'll be able to make a ton of them fast due to the added complexity of the internal mechanism. Secondary pricing will be very very high I imagine
Beautiful knife. Kind of hoping they do a smaller version.
@georgetek if they make a smaller one I'd definitely be into checking it out, thanks for tuning in!!
“Not a cool white man” 😅
4500 all day lol, not too warm!
Like all their knives it looks nice but a 2 year waitlist is not nice.
How would you get a mount for the sheath?
@karlbailey1730 Unfortunately I forgot to mention in the video that one of areas of improvement I'd like to see would be for CRK to add a belt loop attachment of some kind, or an optional belt sheath as an upgrade perhaps. Personally I would like that but I do believe the knife was designed as a true backpack knife (just a guess) so in their eyes a mounting system was unnecessary. The knife is so small and light I can at least understand where they were coming from. Thanks for tuning in 🏆
Does the titanium variant really does heat up faster than the aluminum version?
@DiabolicalSpender great username 🏆 So I have both versions, same emitter in them (519a). I will turn them both on in the highest mode and hold one in each hand and let you know which gets hotter faster. I think they are about the same, and on high that's pretty hot 🔥 I will do it in the next few hours and reply to your comment with my findings.
@DiabolicalSpender I turned both lights on at the same time and held on up near the head of the flashlight. After about 1 minutes both were getting quite warm but the titanium one was warmer. At about 1 minute 15 seconds in, the Ti light was essentially too hot to hold up there at the head, the aluminum was still not as bad. About 15 seconds later the aluminum light too was too hot to hold there. I tried it again this morning and gave the Ti light a slight head start because I had to cycle through the modes a couple times on the titanium light to find high. Even with this slight advantage in timing, the Ti light did heat up faster to the point of being painful to hold onto before the aluminum light.
@@EDChero thank you so much for your response bro! I really love the looks of the titanium variant but I think I'd have to settle with buying the aluminum version and the copper version. It's just a huge deal breaker for me that it heats up a lot faster and as far as I know, Ti retains heat much longer than the aluminum version.
@@DiabolicalSpender No problem, thanks for tuning in! (As much as I like Ti, for the money I think the aluminum version is pretty hard to beat in the S2+) For me I pretty much have to use either one of these on the third level up from the bottom (out of 5 levels) if I'm doing any kind of extended use like a walk at night, otherwise they just get too hot. Mostly, if I am needing a ton of light I'm usually only doing shorts bursts anyway and don't run into any issues in my use case.
where did you purchase this? looks great
@danjones7 I purchased this great little knife direct from Micael at americanbladeworks.com thanks for tuning in!
Love the eg hatch on the side!

@ImageLoX It is truly functional art, love it so far!
I’m glad you reviewed this knife because there aren’t many examples of this one out there. On another note, I feel like the video was pretty long for the amount of information in it. Keep it up though
I agree, definitely working to tighten up the content. Thanks for tuning in, much appreciated!
@@EDChero no problem. Out of curiosity do you know the hrc on the fixed blade? My hope was 62-63 but I haven’t seen info
If I recall it was the same as Chris Reeves, whatever Larin Thomas recommends. 63-64 I believe. I'll double check and get back to you
@@kadenmoses2180 Confirmed, 63-64 🏆
@@EDChero thanks. I appreciate it
Nice video. I have the same model , but with the natural micarta. I believe yours is a newer iteration. Mine has the Delta 3V logo and the Carothers branding on the side of the blade. It’s a no frills hard use tool. A great knife!
I'm a little jealous I'm not gonna lie, I like that logo on the side 🏆
@@EDChero Hehe! And I like it on the spine, like yours 😛
Dope 👌👌👌

Sweet knife and great review.
@jerryc5842 much appreciated, thanks for tuning in!
I was looking for review on this 2 months ago, but there was probably just one on youtube back then. got myself one non-Ti version eventually... glad I did it, way way way better than other options within the same category imo...
Sorry i was late to the party, sometimes I get caught sleeping and miss out on some good ones lol. I think the aluminum version would be great, glad you snagged one they are fantastic lights.
@@EDChero no worry man, thanks so much for the review! looking forward for more good stuffs and recommendations from you!
Just got mine in today. Figured there would be some fresh vids out. Mine actually came from the recent drop on blade forums. Blade is magnacut at 62.7 HRC. Real nice blade.
@andyprice4696 How are you liking yours, is this your first Carothers? I saw that drop mentioned but then spaced it, how fast did it sell out?
@@EDChero in my opinion it’s one of the top semi-custom fixed blades you can buy from a USA maker. Yes it is my first Carothers. I’ve tried numerous times in the drops and this time I was #40 in a 40 spot drop. Had my comment placed in 3 seconds. Crazy to see 40 knives gone in 3 seconds. Well worth the price they are asking. Now I need to get one in the delta 3V as well.
Great videos . Well done .
Thank you, and thanks for tuning in 🎉🏆
Nice looking blade But I’ll pass on the magnacut for field use ✌️
Hey there! what is your fav steel for an application like this?
I’m an old school 16 year disabled combat veteran, 18b All these super steels to me are like how Baskin Robbin’s went from 10 To 31 flavors of ice cream I still only eat 3 Anyway, give me a good steel that I can easily touch up in the field with minimal work Stropping preferably I’ll take 1075 on a machete 1095 on a blade My blades are tools not museum pieces I take care of them and use them for their intended purpose I don’t use a blade as an axe However, on occasion I will use a hatchet as a blade Particularly smaller hand hatchets Call me old and out of touch However I have other blades in different steels 3V, AEB-L, CPM varieties And I don’t mind some of these steels Hell I’d take a magnacut folder for my pants pocket But I still enjoy my three flavors, particularly where I know they work perfectly for me ✌️🇺🇸
@jrbarilla I appreciate your service 🇺🇸 and insight, thank you for sharing! I sure do like me some 1095 too 🎉
@@jrbarilla I concur with your sentiment. My "three flavors" are 1095, 52100, and O1. Not ready for, nor do I need Magnacut.
@@EDChero I’ll take some 80CRV2 as well. A little tougher than 1095 but still very serviceable in the field ✌️
That’s puuuuurrrrrdy. Good score bro
@bizkitk9 thanks, this is the first time I've seen one in person. It's incredibly nice, definitely scored on this thing 🎉
That's the most beautiful knife ever.
@DEPRETION. Indeed it is, thank you for tuning in 🏆
You still need an adapter to plug that battery into the Capra !
Hello Brian, you are absolutely correct! I failed to mention that I have a Hobbywing Fusion Pro 2300kv going into the Capra, but I am waiting on all the parts to arrive before I dig into it (have a Vader flat delrin skid coming soon and Vitavon carbon fiber panels).
I really want one of these! Except, these are like 500+ dollars. Definitely not something in my price range :(. So I'm left with cheap knock offs because they are cheaper.
Have you checked out the MaxAce OTF? Seems like a solid unit for way less than this thing.🏆 My first OTF was a lightning and was $35, was a great knife and never failed to deploy not once. Thanks for dropping by @SpartanGIS2 👍🏼👍🏼
Save your money. Instead of purchasing 2, 3, 4, 5 cheaper blades, save your money and drop it all on a blade such as the Scarab 2 Generation 3.
@EDChero thanks for the heads up. I was looking at a MaxAce Neptune OTF. That thing looks sharp as hell! I ordered a customized revencrest rc1 last week on an impulse order for my first OTF knife, mainly because of the lifetime warranty. After hanging out with a buddy who had a cheap otf, I got hooked on otf knives. Never thought I would be a otf knife lover. Going to have to look at a Neptune next haha.
@SpartanGIS2 Yeah the Neptune is the one, looks like a nice one from what I've seen. MaxAce makes some quality knives for sure. Good value for the money 💵
@ericsierra-franco7802 I agree with you, I've been doing that lately but it wasn't always this way. It's difficult some times, you want something that is seemingly out of reach but if you just focus on it and have some discipline you can make it happen. I too have been in a situation where I and up with a bunch of cheaper ________________'s and wished in the end that I'd just saved up and got the one I really wanted. It took me while to learn that lesson, if it wasn't for expensive mistakes I wouldn't make that many 🤣
how many lumens do you think does the Nichia neutral white emitter outputs?
Supposedly 800 for the neutral and 1300 for the cool white 🏆 Personally I really like the neutral tint and would trade that for a small drop in output. Some of that is perceived brightness just because the cooler tint will appear brighter to the eye. I think the 4000k tint on this 519a looks great.
@@EDChero cool, 800lm 4000k would be a perfect indoor light. same sentiments here w the nice tint over the small drop in output. the e05ii is my only 14500 light that isnt high CRI
@chicoy12 What's your favorite 14500 besides this one?
@@EDChero my first one was a ts10 4000k in titanium. Got the manker e05ii and the loopgear sk03 last month. Id say the manker is my fave carry for night walks because of the very good beam ( a wide throwy hotspot) and due to the good runtimes. I have a convoy s2+ MAO in 18350 w an sft40 3000k, A good balance of throw warm CCT and high CRI
The s2 is the one i love to bring when i have my camera w me. I can use that for emergency lighting for photography
God those beats were straight almond butter. Buttery AND nutty.
Literally the best of both worlds lol 😆 PS don't forget to subscribe, I will continue to slide in some heat where deemed appropriate (everywhere).
@@EDChero Subbed, big papa
Pretty knife, now just put a normal finish and shine on the blade, a nice grain wood handle, a good leather sheath, and I'd be tempted to buy it...
The donut dark ring around hot spot ruined it for me. Dont know if its the same in the cool white, tho. Also the clip was very short lived in the copper version. The copper was so soft and the clip started to wiggle and then screw kinda fell off. Bummer.
@gurkmeister8568 I bet that copper one was a chunky lil guy 🏆
Loved very long OTFs, but, nowtimes I am disabled person, have very heavy SM, sclerosis multiplex, so the push button is for me better than the push pull. No one can understand that, only persaons with low finger strenght, as me. Use mostly firm neck knife, but when it goes to folder, OTS open from the side with button action is my choice. And well,m I am able to walk, but only wioth the help of two german corks, and that for 6 years ... . But great video, love those Prometheus designs, love those glowing buttons.
Thank you for the kind words. What's your favorite OTS at the moment? I happen to be gearing up for a video on the Hinderer auto so that should be fun. I know it's been out for awhile and covered but I'm hoping to do it better 🤷🏻♂️
@@EDChero Have Spyderco Citadel, the bigger one, but the most wearable and the most I like is Al Mar SERT, very pointy blade, nice materials on both the blade and the handle, it has safety button, which make it better than Protech (most of them) and I really like it. I have many OTS, my first was Mikov (I was born in CSSR), but I like the SERT most.
And it has low profile clip too.
"I wear a large size medical glove" what a weird choice of glove for comparison. maybe leave the "medical" part out next time.
@ttattx Thanks for tuning in, I'll tell you my reasoning. Large medical gloves are pretty standard in size so I used that for reference. I'm also in the medical field, so I have a lot of experience with large medical gloves. Im purely assuming that any box of rubber or nitrile gloves from say Harbor Freight or the like are somewhat consistent in size. A "large" glove from different manufacturers could be all kind of varying sizes of random glove 🤷🏻♂️ Just trying to bring some consistency and accuracy where I can hope that helped 👍🏼
@@EDChero Guy is making a big deal over nothing. I’m in the Medical Field too and for food prep gloves i’m an XL, mechanic gloves i’m a medium and examination/medical gloves im a Large. Some types of gloves are interchangeable but in my experience, there is a difference between them with most brands. With any brand of exam gloves though, i’m a large. Keep the specificity in my man.
@@EDChero bro don’t worry about him that’s a weird critique to have I didn’t even notice it
I picked up the high CRI version and it's excellent for the price! An almost perfect EDC. A couple nit picks: clip is a bit hard to get in and out of the pocket one handed. The switch is stiff to activate with a thumb as there's not much to hold to, but this also prevents accidental activation. Lastly, the medium and high seem to be a lot closer together than low- I would have liked one more level in between low and "medium." In spite of those things, it does seem very high quality, especially in titanium and for only $50.
@jonathanklein7875 it sounds like we have arrived at pretty similar conclusions! Great light for only $50 with only minor complaints but overall it's a winner for sure! Thanks for checking out my video 🏆
@1:23 That's what she said
@stanglifemike3759 good catch lol 🏆 Tell ya what, they all get used to it after the first couple times 🤣
Reveived mine 2 weeks ago, Ti as well, even for me as a Canadian, got it at 68$ is well worth it. Could easily be more expensive than that ! Great flashlight !
@toolinedc Definitely agree with you 💯 percent. As a fan of titanium things, I think this light is a solid value and checks quite a few boxes in the 14500 edc light category.
As always Chris Reve are beyond working class people 😅
I would choose the TRC Polheim over this. Same price, same steel, same measurements but I like the optics more.
@FishingParrot the TRC Polheim is a great smaller knife also, I think I might do a video on it next 🤔
The TRC Pohlheim is really a great kinfe 👍 TRC knives are generally top notch, my favorite knife from TRC is the South Pole.
@@achimgeist5185Definitely agree with you on the Southpole. That knife is damn near perfect, the size, the shape, the look, the build quality, the feel in hand, the sheath -it's all SO damn good.
@@EDChero I own four South Poles, the old version with screwed-on handle scales (Elmax), the newer version in Apo finish (Elmax) , the 10th Anniversary (M390) and the V4E DLC (Vanadis 4 Extra) 😅
Sick knife. I'm looking for a backpacking knife, this wont come fast enough and is likely a bit too expensive for the job at hand. However, I take good care of my stuff, so I could maybe? justify it😂. I would love to see a size comparison with the the Overland and Overland sport. I have a feeling this crk could be the Goldilocks.
I have a pretty ridiculous amount of fixed blades and I can't imagine a better backpack knife than this. Partly because it was made to be a backpack knife and has no belt attachment (I wish it did). The TRC Polheim would be my second choice but I think the CRK would be a better all around knife and definitely lighter 🏆
Hollow Ground, interesting. Limits it's duty to slicing task and you wouldn't really want to do any bush crafting, or anything aggressive with it
Time will tell... 🤔 I wonder how good their warranty is if I FAFO 🤣
Nice presentation. Excellent lighting. You win a subscriber!
That means a lot, thanks! Exactly what I'm shooting for and I'm happy that you took notice. What kind of gear is your favorite?
Yes, he does a real good job. 👍🏻
NOICE!!!
Thank you for the comment, I enjoy positive feedback and it's appreciated 🏆🎉
@@EDChero as ive had the light for a week, i found the clip to be too tight and isnt flexible enough(only con for me) ,but the light is one of the most practical 14500 light IMO. good output, I have the cool white 1300 lumens version in sand aluminum, pretty bright for its size. brightness is close to my ts10 TI but with better thermals and throwy with a nice big hotspot. ive heard the efficency is best in class. i like the firm forward clicky switch as well, its too firm for some but i think it pairs well with a forward clicky. out of all of my 14500s, this is the one i would take for a night walk.
@chicoy12 I bet that cool white is a real barn burner 🔥 I'm still enjoying mine quite a lot also, that clip tho... 😵💫 Thanks for sharing your experience 🏆
@@chicoy12 Thats exactly what I have been using mine for most lately! So far this is the AA/14500 sized night walk champion!
Cost? Is a little higher than expected.
Sorry I seem to have left that very important detail out (I will have to start scripting these 😬) Retail is $300 if you are willing to order from Chris Reeves and wait it out... I paid significantly more because I'm not very smart 🤣
Love that geometry, not sure about handle though
Definitely like the geometry! For what it's worth, the handle feels very good in hand 🖐🏼
You should be able to swap easily fortunately... definitely not many factory options!
@@EDChero its the protrusion in middle of handle thats botthering me.
@@olaf2554 Is it purely the esthetics, or you are worried it might cause a usability issue? I felt the same way, I thought it was dumb AF 😂 Butt, after handling the knife in person it isn't so bad... Aesthetically It isn't ideal for me, however in hand it just works somehow you don't feel it and the handle is actually super comfortable! I was surprised honestly. I absolutely love the blade shape, and when the knife is in hand all I see is that incredible geometry 🤩. It's really something to behold. 🏆
@@EDChero im thinking about usability. Think it would make a great hunting knife but can imagine it being a hotspot after having it in hand for a while

My Dirac Delta is about 99% reliable, I have had a handful of misfires over the last 6 months. I received my combat troodon about 2 months ago and haven't had any failures yet. I also had a utx 85 that I returned to blade-hq because that thing was very unreliable!
I knew someone would show up with similar results eventually 🤣 The Combat Troodon sounds pretty legit though! I wonder if some knives just get lucky at the factory and have looser tolerances or something and work better 🤔
@EDChero I've only ever owned 4 microtechs total in my lifetime, so I'm no expert, but from my experiences so far, the only one that has been 100% reliable is the troodon gen 3. I think some people do get lucky and get one that is 100% and some people don't want to admit that the knife they paid $300+ for isn't totally reliable.
@EDChero I did just receive a Microtech Glykon Chinese knockoff from DHGate, and for $50, it definitely seems worth it! The blade lockup is better than my microtechs, and the fit and finish isn't bad. It's definitely not a Microtech, but for $50 instead of $550, it is a solid edc that I wouldn't care if it got lost or beat on.
You’d be surprised to know that the E05ii has one of the most efficient drivers (probably the best) for a 14500 flashlight. Making it’s runtimes are significantly better than the Reylight Lanapple or the E2A. Thanks for the review :)
That is great news! Thank you very much for your insight, I had no idea. Just to be clear, mostly I was talking a bit of smack about the capacity of the 14500 in general but I failed to make that point clear. Appreciate the information, I will have to look into it and study up!
Nice otf, I would prefer a much pointer blade though. Still very nice
Completely get that, the blade shape was just "ok" for me but I liked everything else about it. I too wish it was at least a little bit pointier, thanks for checking out my video 🎉
Very nice knife though.
Crazy, I’ve had Microtech knives for ages and haven’t had an otf fail.
That's crazy, I must just be the luckiest guy ever 🤣 Thanks for the report man, so far it's been more people with flawless operation than I've had... perhaps it's my magnetic personality that's messing up the action 🤣🤣
