    Here from the "Future". Just finished listening to #127 that spoke about AI Oil Change Suggestions and touched on using the OLM/Manual to decide when to change the oil. I know with my Current Vehicle with its Ecotec 2.4L engine, I can't/won't use the OLM because of an existing excessive Oil/Fuel Dilution problem that the OLM isn't factoring (enough) into its Algorithm. Been able to bring the percentage down by reducing "Short Tripping" and Excessive Idling... But having changed at 3000 miles / 8 months (7500 miles/12 month OLM was reporting 56% Oil Life Remaining) I fear what I would have discovered had I gone another 4 months or maybe 1500 miles (4500 miles/12 months). So for now still sticking with 3000 miles around 6 months and OLM 50-60%... Even though my last Oil Sample suggested 4000-5000 miles. (Ran 3720 miles/7 months/OLM 50%) Hopefully the test results show further improvement

    I realize this is an older video, but he mentions that he's going to park it for the winter and start it 3-4 time per month. NOT GOOD for any engine. Not bringing an engine up to operating temp and running it will do more damage to it. Different metals and lubricants heat up and cool at different temps and will create condensation during cool down. Another problem is every time you fire it up and run it then shut id down you have washed down the cylinders, and with excessive priming fuel and cranking fuel more damage can occur to cylinder walls, pistons, rings, crank etc.. Better to park it and not start it and leave it on a battery tender unless you're going to take it out for a good run then park it.

    • @blackstonelaboratories
      @blackstonelaboratories 9 месяцев назад

      Good question! A deteriorating timing belt likely won't show up in analysis because many are polyurethane/rubber. However if the oil pickup becomes partially clogged, we may see poor wear due to insufficient lubrication.

    Totally agree with your comments here- I have a 2016 Toyota Highlander with 140k on the original ATF. Tremendous controversy on whether or not it's too late for me to do a drain and fill. I am going to send a sample in before any significant fluid exchange so we can see where we are at.

  • @heathjude50
    @heathjude50 9 месяцев назад

    23:15 imo it’s a bad idea to start it and just let it warm up and cut it off in the winter. Warming up in the cold and then cooling causes condensation because it’s not getting the oil hot enough to evaporate the moisture. I never start my vehicles unless I plan to ride them in the winter. I could be completely wrong about this but I’d like to see an analysis comparison between oil that has just sit all winter and oil that has been periodically warmed up like he says he’s going to be doing.

    Really, worthless video. Looking for how the analysis is performed not how some kid changes his oil. At my age I have probably changed more engine oil on more different vehicles than this kid can count without a calculator. And guess what, kid; many of us do not need to jack the vehicle up and would never just raise the front, we have trucks lifted enough for even a fat lady to slide under. And it appears there is NO part two or more....

    I've spoke to several mechanics and the real issue is getting the sample to Blackstone Lab. It seems that many Post Offices see the Package that contains Motor oil and open the package as they did on my sample. When the package arrived at BlackStone I received an email from Blackstone Lab that the oil sample was missing!! Blackstone advised me to ship it thru UPS in a sealed box. I went to my local post office and they said any type of Waste OIl will be removed from the package ! John

    The first time I sent my Oil sample in everything went great! >My results using Amsoil Signature Series was fantastic results. The second time my results never made it as the local post office must have damaged the container so this was a waste of money. Third time post office contacted me to say they don't accept waste oil in the mail. So I contacted another Lab. They use UPS to send samples to them! John
