Looking at guitars, guitar hacks, amps, effects, home and project music studio gear, studios, people and more. 40+ years as a guitarist, performer, songwriter, producer. you still got the pedal
Thanks for watching. No I don’t. I should have posted a follow-up video. I was playing a gig and had wireless rig for my guitar and so I went into the crowd while playing a solo (people seem to love that) and from the crowd perspective all I heard from the guitar was a fuzzy whine. I went back up on stage and next solo I switched to a Marshall Bluesbreaker II (from what I understand not nearly as good as the original, but still quite good) and went back out in the crowd, every note was distinct even though it had the same amount of gain. I sold the Green Rhino after that
I’ve owned my 214ce for 10 years, and I love it. I actually went out recently and tried many new guitars, including Taylor’s. Not a single one, including guitars in the $3,000-4,000 range, sounded better than my 214ce. Yours sounds beautiful as well. Just like mine.
Yeah, I found the same thing - tried a few of the higher end Taylors, Martins and Gibsons in that 3000 to 5000 range and didn't feel any jealousy at all. Thanks for watching and sharing your story
appreciate your low key approach
Thanks for watching
Nice playing😊 I didn't think anyone made a kit of that style of guitar... can i ask where you got it from? Cheers
@@wayneranson8763 thanks for watching. Unfortunately the place I bought it from (The Fretwire Guitars) no longer seems to be in business. However the kits was actually basic Chinese made so should be available from any number of places. I did upgrade the pickup to an ALNICO P90 as well as the tailpiece - which I got from Amazon. The finish was black leather dye with a matte clear coat.
Soooo helpful I have some question toooo if I may ask sir it would help alot
Glad you found it helpful. By all means ask away about any questions you have
@@HardwiredMusicMaker I have a low price acoustic guitar and the 6 e string is the only one to buzzz how can I fix
@@009addettyapanchal9 You could try adjusting the neck truss rod to give the strings just a bit more room, but that also makes all the strings a little higher off the frets. If you keep the the adjustment as small as possible to just clean up the buzz it shouldn't be too bad. There's lots of videos on adjusting truss rods, but do be careful. Best suggestion would be to take it to a luthier to get that done or possibly get a fresh nut made - assuming it's rubbing on the first fret.
Like me some Ten Years After. Nice!
Thanks for the comment
Buy a pitch clip 2+ New and fast and very accurate !
Would love to see one of those, thanks for sharing
How did you get it to stay in tune? On the one I got, the string ball ends got pulled into the soft trem. block. It would not stay in tune, had to use a nail and punch the strings out from the top. If this was my first guitar, I would not be playing guitar today.
Thanks for watching. I find mine is fine for tuning and no problem with the block (yet 😂). One of things I do plan on is replacing the whole trem anyways.
Great playing. Thinking of buying one as my first Strat ever.
Thanks for watching - its a pretty good guitar for getting started with for sure.
This was so helpful 👍👍
I'm glad it was useful for you
I see why I bought it w/ extension I also see why I sold it It’s still a bit sterile, and it’s a laser beam of sound, not a sense of openness in the room
Since this vide what I’ve started doing is turn the amp toward the wall and let it bounce off that for a more open - less laser like - sound. And it really cries for a pre amp of some kind to add warmth. Thanks for watching.
Your affection for your guitar makes me want to get one. I’m beginning my guitar journey. I went to guitar stores and tried about 20. I keep circling back to the Yamaha AC3 ($899) and Taylor 214ce ($1199). I’m leaning towards the AC3 but still undecided. Thoughts from you and others are welcome. Thanks for the post.
Thanks for watching. I'm not familiar with the Yamaha, although I have played other Yamaha models. I suspect either would be a great choice for your exploration of guitar. Of course personally I'm more partial to the Taylor which has a perfect neck for my tastes. The Yamaha would also give you an extra $300 for taking lessons :-D
@@HardwiredMusicMaker Thanks for your valuable input. $300 for lessons; good point. 🎸👍
What strings are you using?
I've been using D'Addario 11-52 nickel bronze strings on it. I used to use the Bluegrass mixed light top and heavy bottom on my old Takamine, but they didn't sound right on this guitar.
I stole mine when I bought it used for 600.00 out the door. It rivals my 3 series. But because it has electronics it's a more versatile guitar
Congrats on the find, and thanks for watching
I recently joined the Taylor family😁. Started playing when i was 12 (45 now). Played in various bands and owned all sorts of equipment. When I got married 15 years ago, I sold off most of my gear to fund my new family lol. About 6 years ago I sold my last guitar that wasn't that great and it just didn't inspire me to practice or play. I haven't owned an instrument during that time and had completely lost my love for playing music. Recently I took my son into GC to look at keyboards. Well I got the itch to play the guitar. Went into their acoustic cave and picked up a few, still just feeling uninspired and kind of sad that I just didn't want to play anymore. Then i grabbed a Taylor 214ce just because it wasn't locked up. All of a sudden the tone and resonance just completely reached into my soul and shook it around. I felt something different and more alive. I then tried the 114ce and felt the same thing. Well I came home and just couldn't stop thinking and daydreaming about how nice both of the mid-lower end Taylors were, and that they're within reach of my slim budget. About a week went by and now im constantly thinking about how badly I want to start playing again and thinking of what i needed to do to save up $900. Then I found a local private seller with a brand new 114CE-SB (sunburst). He basically gave it to me for $400. I've owned it for a week now and havent skipped a day and have been so motivated and inspired to keep practicing that it's like i never took any time off. Finger callouses are back and I'm confident that I'll only keep improving as I've regained my passion for playing because my new Taylor just makes playing so enjoyable.
Great story and welcome to the fam - thanks for sharing
I have 214CE Plus and I love it so much.
That’s great, I’m glad you enjoy it. Thanks for watching and commenting

Have been playing 316ce X-Bracing for 5 years now. It's a dream with beautiful LOW Action. I decided to buy a 614ce V-Bracing for that MAPLE sound. It sounds great, but I'm fighting with it. Looks like my 316 is gonna remain my go-to all-around guitar... at least for now. All Taylors are not the same... you're right about playing the guitar before taking it home.
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience. Have you tried taking the 614 to a luthier to have the action dialed in?
@@HardwiredMusicMaker The store where I bought the 614 did shave the saddle a tiny bit... he's afraid to go any further. They don't believe me that the action (on my 316) is that LOW... although they sold me that guitar too (5 years ago). 🤣I was able to find a luthier in the place where I live, thanks to Google, which surpirsed me. I thought I'd have to travel to the next major city. I'm going to wait a bit... I'm able to get most chords, it's just some of those exotic baar-chords and also hammer-ons with the pinky, things like that frustrate me. I'll let you know what happens eventually. Thanks for the tip.

what is the difference between the e and the ce ?
Thanks for watching. E = electric which means it has a pickup for stage use. C = Cutaway so it has a cutaway shoulder for reaching higher frets easier. CE is a Cutaway Electric.
Great review! 😺I have one of these and I was wondering what strings you use or which strings you have found that you like to use for your style of playing? I'm using D'Addario 11-52 nickel bronze strings now. Thanks!
Thank you for the comment, and I use the same strings
I also use the same strings and gauge. They're fantastic! Especially with the tones of these Taylors. I find that they also stay in tune better than the phosphor or 80/20's. Not sure why that is but it's pretty awesome.

You had 599 thumbs 👍 for this informative video, now you have 600. I’ve been playing consistently a little over 2 years now and got my Taylor 214 ce dlx last week. It plays like a dream! I also tried out a few at a guitar store, including a Taylor 100 series that played just fine too. At first wanted to get the smaller Grand concert, but I found out the Grand Auditorium wasn’t too big for me so I pulled the trigger and am so glad I did! I also have a Martin Jr Streetmaster (which I like a lot) and a small body Yamaha (an ok guitar for a low price), all acoustic electrics. But the Taylor is my favorite. Thanks for posting this great video…
Congratulations on the new guitar and thank you so much for the like and comments.
Is it smaller than something like a dreadnought
@@hectoraguirre320thanks for watching - it’s a Grand Auditorium shape wich is just slightly smaller than a dreadnaught and has a narrower waist, but would probably still fit snuggly in a dreadnaught case.

Thanks for posting this review. I’ve been looking at the amp but put off by it’s apparent lack of volume. With your tweaks it may still be a good buy though. I’m confused by what you did to bypass the gain and would really appreciate your clarification? Around 4:36 in the video you say something like …. Take the thing out of here, add one of these and put it in here. It looks like you might have had your guitar connected to your board and then the lead from the pedal board plugged into the amp input? You disconnected from the input and used an adapter? to plug the board into the auxiliary input on the back of the unit. Any chance you can find the time to step through the process, including the names of the ‘things’ you used so I can shop for them ?
You actually got it exactly right: You need a 1/4” to 1/8” adapter and plug the signal from your guitar or from your pedal board into the Aux Input on the back instead of going through the guitar input on top. This ups the volume and defeats the (to me) useless gain knob. Tone and volume still work fine. I use a right angle 1/8” adapter to put less strain on the Aux Input. I also use the Wampler Tummis to bring a little more warmth and body - and a bit of volume boost - to the rig. But I tried it with other overdrive and boost pedals to get similar improvements. I actually stopped using the eq pedal because the Tumnus has enough time shaping. Hope that helps.
Was looking for a guitar In 2014 and strummed the 110e blew my socks off and knew I had to have it. What you said about how acoustics love to be played was beautiful.
Congratulations and thank you for watching
I wonder which Takamine you had? I've had a 1980 EF360 SC for about 20 years and it still sounds amazing, but needs a neck reset, so got a Yamaha A3R ARE, which sounds fantastic too, but slightly harder to play fingerstyle due to nut width and rounded fretboard. Been looking at the 214 CE for a while now due to the playability factor. Just gives me the space I need for the fingerstyle I've recently gotten into. I'm gonna need to save and get one asap. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for watching. Can't rember the whole model number but I do know it was a G series. And yes, it was the ease of doing fingerstyle that convinced me to get my Taylor. Good luck
Is this comparable to the Vintage Club 30 amp made in the 1990s?
Hi - Unfortunately I've never tried or heard the Vintage Club 30. If someone can shed light on that would love to know.
Super Snark SS-3 and Boss TU-80😅😅
Having both is handy for different places for sure. Thanks for watching.
I just bought the same guitar yesterday!! I had the same experience in the guitar store. It was a used model. Once I tried it, I knew I had to have it. Thank you for your video!
Congratulations on the guitar find and thank you for watching. What style of music do you play?
I purchased my Taylor 214ce and knew I was taking a gamble, but I also had faith in Taylor. I had played several 214s in the past and they were all great. I did luck out and my Taylor is an awesome one. I purchased it in 2020 and I'm still playing her. All Taylors do have a particular unique tone that's in every model.
Congrats on finding the cream of the crop. All guitars can have variations in sound and feel with it. A take a bit of trial and error to find the right one, but when you do…
The last time I picked up a taylor it spoke to me it sead get a Bangor loved your vido cli
Glad it found a good home with you😎
Just bought batteries for the GTA4500....got them from ebay...chinese batteries. The batteries are starting to degrade after about a year....You can use a razor blade to pop it open and the battery has two wires to soldier in...I'll just cut the old battery wires and soldier the wires together.....easier then putting the wires on the board. They are rechargeable batteries....they don't last forever folks....obviously they are not using top quality batteries in these tuners. I'll probably get another year out of them but I have the batteries waiting to be replaced. I still like 'em better then the Cr2032 crap.
Thanks for the heads up, I haven’t popped mine open to see what’s happening but that’s good to know
Great video. Next month I will have the chance to try out the GS mini mahogony and the newer 112ce. But i'm also thinking of the Martin djr. @@ekrasavin There are some really good Yamahas, but I was not excited when I played those guitars. They're playable, but the Taylor you have - to my ears anyways - sounds substantially better and as long as the top is solid, as it is on the Taylor, the sides don't make that big a difference if they're laminated or solid until you get up another 1000 in price.

{Hah, logged into my artist account instead of Hardwired account)
I'd love to switch to 11's, do you find it impacted the tone/volume of the guitar much?@@neildspeers
I have a problem with intonation on my 214ce. It becomes noticable on only the 3rd fret and gets sharp. It only gets worse further up the neck.. I find that disappointing, at this price point. But there is very little about that, being mentioned.
Hi Anthony, thank you for sharing that with us. I have yet to see that issue on a Taylor so I’m wondering if it’s the strings. I know that the one time I ever had acoustic guitar intonation issues it was immediately resolved by replacing the strings. But if changing to a different brand doesn’t cure that I know I’d be immediately reaching out to Taylor - from what I’ve heard they have very good service. I hope you can get that resolved soon.
