Gettin’ at the Beans with Obie’s CR 9040

It’s that time of year-days are sunny, nights are cool, and the beans are dry. Neighbor Obie brought over his New Holland CR9040 to combine my beans!!
Summer Kitchen Update
Просмотров 3683 месяца назад
Been busy with the walls and stonework of the summer kitchen. It isn’t anything new, but more of the same- rebar, laying stone, forms and concrete. With the west wall done, only the NW corner and north wall will need finished. Finally, the gables will need laid up before the roof can go on.

Petunia’s piglets are weaned and moving off the farm, and we are down to our last three. Two are awaiting pickup by their new owner, but one- Peonie- will stay and become part of our herd.
Drilling Beans with the Ford 4000
Просмотров 2485 месяцев назад
Getting beans planted can be nerve racking- especially if you want the ground worked well. This year has been good, with plenty of time to run the disk mulcher over the chiseled ground. The soybeans went in in about three hours (14 ac field), at about 2 bu per acre…. I love it when everything goes according to plan!! The Ford 4000 pulled the JD 8300 drill well- it was its maiden voyage working....

Glad to see you again. The piglets sure are growing nicely. I didn’t realize that you got a roof on the summer kitchen already. I’ll bet you were glad to get that far. Happy new year 👍🏼🇺🇸
@@FailureatRetirement yeah, since I had so much spare help on Thanksgiving, I thought I would put them to good use and we put the roof on! Always got to keep an eye out for those golden opportunities!! Thanks for watching!!

💯💯💒💒👍🏿👍💟
Beautiful music beautiful farm thank you I enjoyed that very much🎉
@@BarryWoodward-kg7rw Thank you for watching Barry! There is something about the light, the quiet and starkness of the winter landscape that I love.
🎉🎉❤❤
Hey Mark, this looks a lot like Ireland at the moment where I live. we have a good food of snow and now a hard frost on top of it
@@morganoflahertymachineryofirel Wow!! I’m really suprised- I figured it would be cold, but no snow. Keep warm my friend- and give our best to your Dad ❤️❤️
Looks good and white! Three months and things ought to be greening-up… 👍
@@HumbleHaymakers I seeded a new field of alfalfa last fall. Hope the snow isn’t too hard on it. Thanks for watching!!
Sowas von Süß!!! ❤️🥰😍🤗😁
Pigs are so funny. They look like they’re doing great 👍🏼 🇺🇸
@@FailureatRetirement Thank you Failure! Lost my runt, but the other four are doing fine. I’ve got to think about weaning and rebreeding her
Oh how cute! 🥰
@@pattismith1864 Thank you!! Took some more today- they are really something
Nice. They sure are calm! No squeals at all. My dad had spotted hogs the whole time that I lived at home.
@@FailureatRetirement I wanted to cross with something I knew I could easily identify, so I used the Duroc semen (my boar is a hamp x york cross, so no reds!). Got to figure out why so few piglets- she had 15 last time. Let me know if you have any guesses- and thanks for watching!!
@@reppfarms4493 having a way to easily identify them was a smart idea. It’s been so long that I honestly don’t remember a whole lot about hog health issues. Hopefully it was something about the AI, another thing I know nothing about, and not something else. Maybe you missed the timing by a little bit or something.
It’s going to be really cool when you get it finished. I’m sure that the top was much harder than the bottom. Lots of work.
@@FailureatRetirement This is the third (and last) stone building I’m putting up!! Thank for watching Failure!!
I’m impressed! It looks great!
@ Thank you Patti!! It has been a labor of love. Nothing like stone
Soybean straw?
@@FailureatRetirement Yup- bed the sheep & hogs with it. I baled some oat straw as well, but I figured I’d bale it up and stick it in the barn. I can feed the oat straw if I run short 😊
Looks good…👍
@@HumbleHaymakers Thank you Humble! They ran ok, but nothing spectacular (44 bu/ac). I just wish bean prices would go up… thanks for watching!
Fall is the best time of the year
@@FailureatRetirement It is- all the work over the spring and summer come together. Good year here…
very cool, thanks for sharing
I have the entire build on the playlist! Watch it and you can get a sense of the build from the start. Should have the stonework done in two weeks!!
Getting there…the big push is on
Very well done. You’re definitely working harder on your project than I am on mine. Keep it up, can’t wait to see it finished 👍🏼🇺🇸
That looks brilliant well done 👏
@@morganoflahertymachineryofirel Thank you Morgan! The stonework is getting there and should be done in October
Looks great 👍🏼
Congratulations 🎉to all
Thank you Morgan… two down, one to go!!😊
Beautiful
@@FailureatRetirement Thank you Failure!! It was a beautiful ceremony- big stuff for us! Thanks for watching….Been missing your vids & wisdom!
@@reppfarms4493 it’s been a very hot and busy summer. I hope to be back at it soon.
Looks great- I’ve considered a 430 baler. I like the equal angle hitch weight vs the long drive shaft with CV joint on the end that is on my round baler. Ain’t getting any younger you know…😎
@@HumbleHaymakers Thank you Humble! That 430 has been a solid baler. I considered buying. NH 640 this summer, but decided to hang onto the 430. It’s simple and I know it by now. 16 bales rolled up in less than two hours- it beats small squares by a long shot!! Thanks for watching
Looks good… 👍
Pigs are funny.
@@FailureatRetirement you are so right-I really have enjoyed my experiment in farrowing. Those piglets are comedians, but very affectionate!!! Thank you for watching Failure- anything more on the house?
@@reppfarms4493 it’s coming along but slowly now. The general has finished the bulk of his work and we are waiting on subs to show up and complete their work. Stucco guy started last week and the drywall guy starts today. The painter is waiting on both of them. I will do another update but I expect that is a few weeks away.
@@FailureatRetirement Mrs. Failure will be happy to have it done so she can start nesting again 😊
The seedbed does look great. Good luck 👍🏼
It worked up real nice- I went over it with the mulcher and the tw25 and it was like powder. Always nice when ground really works up the way it is supposed to!! Thank you for watching Failure!!
,👍👍
Thank you… keep watching- more stonework to come!!
that is one beautiful 6620 Titan ll. Your neighbor deserves a medal for preserving it in that condition.
@@EDBZ28 Yes- he takes excellent care of his equipment
That’s a really nice, original combine
@@FailureatRetirement My neighbor Dan- he takes very good care of his equipment. Just bought a tw 25 off him this spring
Looks great…👍
@@HumbleHaymakers they ram ok- not great- but it will feed the ewes and finish the lambs. IMO- oats are undervalued for feeding. I always like growing them!!
They grow up so fast
@@FailureatRetirement yes they are!
Send them to Ireland we love pig for breakfast
I was wondering about this. Looks great
Yeah, I had to delay work on it until everything was planted and I got first cutting in the barn. I’ve got more time now to get at it, and I’m hoping to have the stonework done by august!! Thank you for watching failure
They are funny. My favorite is when they get the zoomies.
Oh yeah- chase each other around the pens, running in circles! Thank you for watching!! Voice coming back?
@@reppfarms4493 not yet, thanks
That’s crazy 😂 She doesn’t seem mad about it 👍🏼
Not at all! The sows are sisters, so maybethat’s why it dosent bother her. She is due pretty soon
Good looking crop 👍🏼
Mostly fescue, some orchard grass…I also feed corn & oats to get the girls through the winter
Nice tractor I got to drive a ford 2000 selectodrive last week end
Yeah- those selectodrives (“selectospeed” over here) had a bad reputation of jumping into gear. I had a good friend that was injured when the tractor jumped into gear and ran over him. Be careful!!😊
@reppfarms4493 that sounds like a bad job I would say this was a ysa import at some point
Looks good…👍
Thank you Humble! First cutting rolled up about 45 bales. Only a few more and I will be good for fodder for the winter….
Things are looking good
Thank you Morgan! Things are very lush over here right now, but we have a lot of heat coming that will brown things up. Cheers!!
That’s a great video…👍
Thank you Humble! My son had his drone and got some really nice shots of the farm. Thanks for watching
It looks like nature has delivered it’s bounty 👍🏼🇺🇸
Yeah- it’s that time of year when everything is bountiful. Big heat wave coming…
Holy piglets!
Yup! Twelve piglet apostles!!
I saw the short first so this answered my question. Wow that’s a lot of piglets.
Too many
They look great 👍🏼 How many did you get?
13!! One is struggling- not nursing, so I may be down to 12. Still, I figure that’s not bad for her second farrowing. 9 last time…
@@reppfarms4493 that’s great. Too many doesn’t always work out.
My young lad wants to get a black belly pig as a pet
Why not let him just raise two (but not on the house😊)?
@reppfarms4493 the last time we did something like that was with sheep. Pet lambs we never had lamb after that
I agree, very close
Poor baby- I hate to see her so uncomfortable. She is restless and very “needy”. I just hope everything goes well…
She's coming close
Looks right peaceful… 👍
It’s the calm before the storm- still have beans to plant, and FIRST CUTTING!!!
How many do you have . I remember getting chased by geese in my grandparents' house years ago they were c#%^@s
Yes, they are the Thugs of the farm- they bully and rule all other creatures!!
Cool. You have a lot of geese
Yeah- funny story… I started out with four from my Veterinarian. He asked me if I wanted some because he had “extra”. I’d have 60 if I hadn’t given a bunch away 😊
@@reppfarms4493 careful what you wish for I guess 😂
I want one
They are handy! My friend That has the mill is does it as a side business. I only harvest the dead trees each year and it keeps me in lumber
