In this build we go level 7 barbarian and level 5 cleric to combine the cleric Warding Bond spell with a crazy amount of damage reduction which ends up with hits that usually deal 40 damage to your allies becoming 20 to your allies and 0 to you. The core items and skills are all obtained rather early in the game, at level 7, that's somewhere around the middle of act two. 0:00 Build preview 1:53...

    this video is misleading, re: ritual dagger he edits out the misleading bit at 1:32 because if he showed it, it would prove he was misleading you rippling mail only gives you force conduit if you take damage. taking 0 damage is not the same. you must take 1 damage or more after all damage reductions are applied. if after all damage reduction (heavy armor mastery, force conduit, etc) is applied and the damage you take is subtracted from your temporary hit points, you will still gain stacks of force conduit since you still took more than 1 damage. if you have heavy armor mastery which reduces slashing damage by 3, there's a good chance you wont take any damage from the ritual dagger (ritual dagger is 1d4 damage period, no additionss from str or dex or prof. just 1d4 total.) and wont therefore get stacks of force conduit once you do have force conduit, if you use ritual dagger and force conduit prevents that damage, you wont gain more force conduit. you will still gain bless from the dagger, however. this combo is a good way to get free bless at the cost of a bonus action. it is a bad way to get force conduit.

  • @DummyFace123
    @DummyFace123 Месяц назад

    5:32 I don't blame you for getting this wrong, but saving throws don't have critical successes nor critical failures. So rolling a 1 doesn't automatically fail the saving throw, you still get to roll and add all of your other bonuses to pass the saving throw. And its why War Caster isn't a good way to go about concentration saving throws. Its _a_ way, but its the worst way. If you don't already have Con saving throw prof, then Resilient: Constitution is much much better. The con +1 can pump your minimum roll up by 1 in addition to the +2/3/4 proficiency bonus to your *minimum* result, and I'll explain why this is objectively better. Concentration Saving Throw must meet or exceed the DC check of a damage source. The DC is calculated by DMG / 2 OR 10, whichever is higher. So if damage taken is 1 to 21, the DC is 10. If damage taken is 22 or 23, the DC is 11. So given that your roll must always meet or exceed a 10 at minimum, and that once concentration is broken, thats it, its broken, the goal is not to have a higher average roll, the goal is to *guarantee* that your *minimum roll* exceeds the damage that you might take. You don't want a higher average, you want a higher minimum. So assuming you roll a 1 on the d20, between your Con mod and +Saving Throw gear its possible to reach a minimum of 10, but not early game. For early game its best to start out Sorc or Fighter for the +2, get 16con for +3, Safeguard Shield +1, Ring of Protection +1, and then with Bless 1d4 you can bring that minimum roll up to 9, which is nearly uninterruptible once you reach the grove. You wont be taking damage higher than 20 anyways, and so just dont roll a 1 on your d20 AND a 1 on Bless and you'll meet the DC 10. Once you reach level 5 and your prof bonus becomes +3, you can reach that minimum of 10 with Bless. And at level 9 you won't even need Bless. This is with a modest 16con, so theres plenty of ways to get meet the DC 10. After you raise your minimums to the all important DC 10, War Caster STILL is not the next best investment because the next best investment is to lower the maximum damage that you can take. That is to say, reducing spike damage, or rather, getting crittededED. The Adamantine armors and the Adamantine shield are the easiest ways to gain crit immunity. These aren't really anything too exotic. Adamantine Split Armor is excellent for a life cleric. Especially if you Warding Bond others, stacking Adamantine Split with Heavy Armor Master usually reduces the damage split to your cleric to 0 damage. In addition if you use these stacking damage reductions, it also lowers attacks to the cleric's concentration DC by 3. Next feat that is better than war caster would be Shield Master, basically for big spell damage like Fireballs. You might not pass the saving throw, but you only take half damage even if you fail. From a perfect roll fireball that lowers it from 48 to 24. Armor would lower that perfect fireball to 22 making the DC 11 which we already covered can be reached with d20 roll of 1 +4prof +3con +2newbgear +1bless. The next most likely thing to break concentration isn't even the DC check, its slipping or getting knocked prone. For that, Boots of Striding. Followed by Wisdom saving throw spells. Control spells and fear. Control spells and fear are a whole nother animal, and there isn't always something you can do about it. If you happen to have less than 25 health and something sleeps you, you're asleep theres no check you're just asleep. Other control spell DCs can be around 15 and you just need to not roll poorly. (skill issue, roll gud nub) I wouldn't go crazy trying to become completely uninterruptible. Really just the things I suggested at game start. Con st prof from fighter1/sorc1, 16+con, Safeguard Shield, Ring of Protection, Bless. Boots of Striding or something to prevent getting knocked on your aas. Later on, an item to prevent critical hits if at all possible. And against control spells... idk... Magneto's helmet? lol xD

    Don't sleep on level 1 sorc for con st proficiency. More spell slots, 4 out of the best selection of cantrips in the game, and 2 out of the best level 1 spell selections in the game. Storm Sorcery for Tempestuous Magic, flying all over the map. Enhanced Leap is a great ritual for pre-combat, or just exploration in general. Sleep is really nice in early game. Disguise self is always nice. Mage hand, minor illusion, fire bolt, shocking grasp. All in addition to Con saving throw prof. Its pretty sick. Get a couple ways to disengage without triggering reactions. If surprised in the middle of combat and people are on you, can cast bless on everyone as your opener and then fly out trouble. Because of this its actually really good on a cleric. And with two levels of sorc, having some extra range on bless on that first round can be pretty useful. Or twinned sanctuary is incredibly clutch and can ruin the enemy's entire opening strategy, wasting all of their movement while your dudes drink potions and reposition while giving them the middle finger Don't sleep on sorc!

    This is a cool ass build! Glad it came to fruition :) For the Rippling Force Mail, did you test if warding bond damage triggers the force conduit stacks? I could see this being good armor for this build on one hand, esp if your character is in melee, but on the other hand maybe it would stack and explode too quickly between the skin burster and the mail? Not sure... Another interesting item to consider would be the Reason's Grasp gloves if you wanted to start out the battle raging and then move to more support spells. Gives 15 temp HP when you choose to end rage early.

    • @lostnoobgaming
      @lostnoobgaming 2 месяца назад

      Warding bond does work to trigger the force conduit stacks yes! Best idea I tried with it as of now is a support cleric at the back that also casts stoneskin on himself (to reduce damage from warding bond by 50%), similar mitigation than the barb. My two favorites for this are either pure 12 cleric with war priest subclass since it's the only one with stoneskin, or 3 cleric 9 spore druid for stoneskin from the druid and symbiotic entity's temp hp's that add a whole lot of tank when you've already got a ton of mitigation like warding bond, stoneskin, heavy armor master etc.

    • @Jamisen22
      @Jamisen22 2 месяца назад

      @@lostnoobgaming love this. I also did some tinkering with other combinations, and another build that works pretty well in the same vein, while allowing you to keep spellcasting ability is: 5 lvls fighter for heavy armor and constitution save advantage and extra attack. 4 lvls Fiend warlock with pact of blade, with Fiendish Vigor invocation, which gives temp HP with each kill + ability to cast False Life for free temp HP whenever as an emergency. Then 3 levels of War cleric for warding bond ability and even more extra attacks. Dump intelligence and strength. Max out charisma and get con pretty high and then Dex then wis. Ability score improvement first feat for CHA +CON bump. Then Heavy Armor Master. Takes a minute to come online but with the skinburster, birthright hat, rippling mail, cloak of protection, growling underdog gloves, you're a wall. Also tested out swapping defender flail + Swire's Sledboard instead of the halberd, and it works well too for stacking force conduit and offsetting incoming damage. Could probably reduce the fighter levels if you're using the flail and shield instead of the skinburster in order to bump up cleric levels for stoneskin, since extra attack wouldn't be as important to build up force conduit. Not a lot of force conduit/warding bond builds I've seen out there- this has been a fun mechanic to tinker with!

      @charlesbryson7443 I think it's possible to make it very strong, check out the build I made yesterday (ruclips.net/video/RnYy3-ZWv5c/видео.html), it's got adamantine armor (-2) and this (-3), but also force conduit stacks (-7) and rage (-50%). They all stack on each other with the -50% from rage going first, damage mitigation can get crazy.

    I actually like this feat all the way through even late game. It's really good paired with the Rippling Mail bc the lower AC aggros enemies on your tank, so damage reduction is key. It's great for force conduit, reeling, and other builds that focus on dealing damages/debuffs on melee hit

    • @lostnoobgaming
      @lostnoobgaming 2 месяца назад

      @Jamisen22 sounds really good. Do you know if the force conduit stacks of Rippling Mail work with the cleric's Warding Bond? Like if you'd cast warding bond on the allies, the cleric has rippling mail, and the incoming half damage on allies that the cleric takes keeps it's damage type to trigger conduit stacks. And then after a few attacks, the 50% damage going to the cleric would be reduced by the ton of force conduit stacks, plus the armour master feat. If this idea works it'd be quite OP.

    • @Jamisen22
      @Jamisen22 2 месяца назад

      @@lostnoobgaming That's really interesting- I haven't tested that specific combo yet, but now I want to. I don't know if the game would be coded to recognize damage via warding bond split in a way to trigger armor effects like force conduit. Agreed that that would be amazing if so! Will have to try it out.

      @Jamisen22 it works and it stacks with everything, i've done a few tests and I'm able to completely nullify the damage that's supposed to move to my warding bond caster from big hitting dudes like steel watchers. Like, the 40 damage hit that's supposed to go down to 20 on the target and 20 on the caster goes down to 20-0. I'll have a build ready around the end of the weekend, a barbarian cleric, I've just tried and at level 7 around moonrise tower he's taking 0 from every single hits on the warded allies. Basically bear rage (reduce phys dmg by 50% even with heavy armour) + force conduits + H.A.M.

    My tankiest, most attritional and favorite melee build ended up taking HAM to maximize that damage reduction. Much more thematic than an equivalent abjuration wizard one, I'd say. It was a 1 fighter (just for the armor proficiency required for the feat), 3 thief, and 8 wild heart bear barbarian with GWM and HAM. When stacking heavy armor reduction with the physical reduction from HAM, and the resistance from bear rage that isn't impeded by heavy armor, and high constitution with two bonus actions for either healing or GWM extra attacks, it was my finest martial

    • @lostnoobgaming
      @lostnoobgaming 2 месяца назад

      @Dorumin I like it, here's an idea, how about adding stallion aspect (level 6 wildheart barbarian, you're already there) that will give you twice your barbarian level in temp hp when dashing, so 16 temp hp. You already have 3 thief so can dash using the bonus action. That 16 hp benefits from the rage phys resist so it's like it was 32 hp, and HAM reduces all physical hits on the temp hp by 3. And you can renew the 16 temp hp every turn.

      @@lostnoobgaming I did use stallion :) I played it in Trials of Tav though, if it were a main character in the story I still probably would've chosen bear aspect just because the carry weight is very convenient. Aspect of the stallion is excellent but it doesn't actually let you renew the temp hit points on every turn, unlike other temp hp sources, it won't refresh if you haven't depleted your current one. Quite weird

      What about HAM plus Adamantine Splint?

      @user-pn4zh5lk8s check my video that's coming up tomorrow, there's HAM and Adamantine Splint and two stronger things, they all stack and work with warding bond to negate an absurd amount of damage for the whole group.

    Are these worse versions of gloves of power? Since bane is for both attack rolls and saving throws and is basically unconditional (requires being branded which is more or less free)

      @ironbar2009 I haven't tested gloves of power but my understanding is they only have a (rather weak at DC 11) chance to apply the debuff while for these ones, I can confirm it always applies baneful strike when you hit enemies. I'm using it here on my barbarian combined with the tiger aoe attack, guaranteed debuff on everyone around each time. Let me know if gloves of power is also a guaranteed debuff with no saving throws, it would be even better.

      @@lostnoobgaming ahh thank you wiki doesn’t mention dc 11 at all but it makes sense based on description

      @ironbar2009 i had to click on the ability link to see the dc 11 (link bg3.wiki/wiki/Absolute%27s_Bane), now the funny thing I just opened the gloves of baneful striking also on bg3 dot wiki and it says they're supposed to have a dc 13 saving throw but still applies it each time, so I guess it's yet another way the item has wrong text / is bugged lol.

      Gloves of power work pretty reliably if you have the absolute's brand.

    Here’s a great use for H.A.M. that I’ve actually used in one of my own Honor mode playthroughs: Life Cleric with Warding Bond on whole team and I’m not talking about a camp caster. This life cleric can and should tag along with the adventuring party given that with the right gear they’ll have a considerable amount of damage negation, high saving throws, and will keep the rest of party in good shape. Not once was I worried during a fight during this playthrough and the cleric often received 0 damage from Warding Bond given all the damage negation. Give it a shot. You won’t be disappointed.

      @Salasar22 i like it. Any ways to get it even tankier with multiclass? I was thinking for example those classes that add temporary hit points like spore druid's symbiotic entity or armor of agathis (my first thought was the barbarian stallion effect but rage doesn't work with heavy armour).

      @@lostnoobgaming Considering a life domain cleric is meant to heal and buff the party (I mostly used Bless while wielding the Staff of Arcane Blessing throughout the game) and the cleric’s special abilities scale with cleric levels, I’d say multi-classing wouldn’t be a good decision with this build.
