    A very good observation from you is that the body weight is too much on the new inside ski during the end of the old turn. Your suggestion to solve this is wrong in my eyes. No separation can solve this issue!! One solution could be, to simply unload this ski, by lifting it up a little. An other solution is to pull it backwards, in under the body. Separation in this moment must mean, that she turns her torso more tinto the direction of the fall-line. This would never create an unloading of the new inside ski. skiingtechnique.wordpress.com

  • @JanosKoranyi
    @JanosKoranyi Месяц назад

    Great video for beginners, but things are always much more complicated and these videos are both right and wrong. When you start a turn it is right to have a forward body position with ankle flex and boot-tongue pressures, but when you finish your turn it is very useful to flex you knees much more, so that your body gets over your ski-tailes. You move in a traverse direction, you do not risk to lose balance backwards. The right way of not turning your skis by a shoulder rotation into the turn is not at all the same thing as the right separation. You mix up these things and it becomes hard to follow. S-shape turns must be prepared! You miss the most important part of this preparation, which is the cross over of your skis by your body. If you do not cross over your skis, you will be unable to get carved, s-shape turns. Pulling back your new inside ski is a very good idea, but this will not be enough! skiingtechnique.wordpress.com

    What you show and do is very good. What you say is not as good. It is clear that what you mean when you say "lower body" is the legs. You should say that separation must happen between your legs and your torso. Separation must happen in the hip joints really, this is correct and useful, only the name you use is wrong. I know this is not your fault, PSIA is wrong about this simple anatomical knowledge. The vast majority of humans know that the hips are part of the lower body, only PSIA alone thinks that it is part of the upper body. I always say leg-torso separation. About ski-lead. You are right, ski-lead is a necessary part of separation. If your ski-lead is weak, you will have to rotate, twist your knees and this hurts the knee. There are much more reasons to separation than what you tell us.

    Greg you need to have better balance on the inside leg as you are a framing

    • @skiwithgreg

      Justin - look at our national Teams training manager, Michael Rogan. He talks about slight A framing to increase outside leg effectiveness. If you watch him there is a slight A frame. Fortunately or unfortunately when I had my new boots (Lange RS) the upper cuff was tweeted, it removed the slight A frame.

    What’s the difference between a short turn and a z shaped turn? How do you control your speed on steeps?

    • @skiwithgreg
      @skiwithgreg 6 месяцев назад

      Round “C” shaped turns are what you are looking for when you ski. A “Z” shaped turn is started late, as you pick up speed, you slow down by pushing your tails out at the end of the turn. I demo that in the video. I’ll do a video on steeps, however you will use more edging force earlier in the turn and more or quicker rotation.

    • @sandraredmond4812
      @sandraredmond4812 6 месяцев назад

      @@skiwithgreg I am a competent skier but always feel the need to control my speed and struggle for confidence on the super steep runs with crud snow. I am intrigued with the pivot turn. I think I have been carving my turns and then end up shooting across the hill out of balance and way too fast. I need to learn how to manage that on double blacks. I’m ok on less steep runs.

    • @skiwithgreg
      @skiwithgreg 6 месяцев назад

      A pivot turn is a turn where the skis have minimal edge to snow contact, that’s why it’s easy to slide and pivot. It’s like a slide slip with a turn or pivot built in. Yes that can get you down anything, however I don’t think that’s what you want. Send me a video at Greg@skiwithgreg.com and I’ll send you back some analysis with drills to improve your skiing.

    By Z-turn do you mean the same as A-Framing? I've learned I'm very guilty of that....yes I'm working on it!

    • @skiwithgreg
      @skiwithgreg 6 месяцев назад

      A “Z” turn is the shape of your turn. It starts late, as you pick up speed thru the middle of the turn you need/want to slow down so you push your tails out down the hill to brake. Snow shoots down the hill. I look for “C” shaped turns, the turns starts early and snow will fly to the side. A framing is when the outside knee moves into the inside knee while the skis are parallel and separated, making an “A” from the snow up to the knees.
