Disclaimer!! Not all fridges are the same, even with the same model number. The first time you do this be prepared to unplug your fridge if the water does not stop. This is a fix for the Frigidaire Gallery FGHB2866PF3. It may work for other Frigidaire refrigerators as well. This is not a permanent fix, but it is simple to perform as needed. NO TOOLS necessary! Thank you, thank you so much!
Bud, the inner liner has a zipper right down the middle lol. Or is that just mine? I just treated mine like a normal rivet - drilled it out. You just drill the "flared" end until it separates
I have the 2022 model # grss2352af and unfortunately they have changed the diagnostic selections and even the buttons. For instance, both sides are +/- now, with no up/down on the left. And holding +/- together on the right side for 5 seconds simply switches from farenheit to celsius rather than triggering a diagnostic. Can't find the Service Data Sheet for this model anywhere online. if anyone does, please reply here.
You don’t really explain well! You’ll hear that and it will do that then you got to do that to get that!
I had a similar situation where icemaker hardly making ice. Went thru most of the settings shown here. Also defrosted, removed all the parts and actually did not find much ice clogging up the back of freezer. Raising the temp to 2 deg F and 35 deg F solved it for me.
I fell asleep.
So I ran all diagnostic and everything worked. Still no ice. Any suggestions?
How do you know which manual diagnostic setting you are testing when doing it manually? Is there a list somewhere?
Patients! Patients is key. I used a razor to cut the inner fabric, a hack saw to cut the old wheel bearing, a punch to push the old wheel bearing out, a big 90 degree o-ring pick to lift the sled bottom to make an inch of space to work with, and needle hose pliers to put the old bearing the rest of the way out. Putting the new one in wasn't too bad. I used the needle nose to hold the Nylock nut to screw in the wheel bearing. Gorilla taped the liner. Very limited space! BUT it can be done. Remember, Patients. If the first wheel aggravates you, take 5 before attacking the second one.
I was scrolling through the different codes and found out that code #8 will make the water dispenser run non-stop. Luckily I had another person nearby when this happened so they could keep handing me empty containers to catch the water while I tried to figure out how I had made that happen! So yeah, Code 8 should be OFF. And no, we don't have ice. It was worth a shot.
Thank you for the video showing how to get into the diagnostic mode. My ice maker has been down since I bought the machine years ago and I just took it apart to figure it out. The whole ice unit was frozen solid in a block of ice which is odd since the ice maker was turned off AND unplugged. Got rid of the ice block and cleared the drain tube and hooked everything back up just to let it sit over night and not make ice so I came to this video. Running the diagnostic shows that it can and does dump water into the tray and the tray rotates the water out. So if this is happening fine I still don't understand why the fridge isn't sensing that ice needs to be made and filling the tray like its supposed to. I cannot go into the manual diagnostic mode like you did due to my led panel where the degrees are at are not fully lit up.
Excellent work this is pretty good !
Thanks
Thank you for posting this!! We have a slightly different model and I've found removing the tray, reinserting it, and keeping the setting on ice also works sometimes.
Great video! Thank you for your help.
I just wish you didn’t pause so much!
Well, none of this...was like... planned, man. Sorry.
Thanks for the tip on how to replace the wheel as I was beginning to get frustrated & this sure did help.
Very helpful. Your video fixed the problem!!
Everyone please save yourself the frustration and watch this on 2x dude spends 12 minutes when he could have done in 3
Michael you are the "Frigidaire Galley side by side ice maker trouble shooting guru". I was thinking it maybe a programming issue after checking continuity through my 4 coils of my water valve which i could now rule out. I had my service data sheet which made mention of activating/deactivating the system diagnostic mode but did not quite grasp how to force it into a manual test until I came across your tutorial. Many Thanks!
You are a lifesaver! This also works if the water won’t dispense as well. Thank you. 😊
Someone turned off my water valve and i got air in my line to my Ice Maker...I kept cycling it and cyclieing it by holding the button down...and it didn't wort...UNTIL...I DID IT LIKE THE 15 TIME...and then it finally worked
Thank you! Worked like a charm. Great directions!
I"m at the part where the lights are blinking, it made noises, and it just gave me a perfect cup of water. I'm confused. Now what? Do I leave it blinking or do the Up Down buttons? Then what? I won't know for a few hours if it's actually making ice or not so do I leave it blinking or not?
I somehow made it spew out water forever… oh my god. I was switching out cups like a crazy person while trying to reset it. Ended up having to unplug it. Oh my god.
I think I might've been going through the manual settings and somehow just turned the water ON and didn't realize it. my goodness, that was nuts.
I totally agree that the software glix could be driving the inop. Tried replacing tray motors etc, and nothing worked long term. Now run through hard reset and it runs for months at a time. Great detective work !
I just bought this model. How does it put ice in the top bin and bottom bin and why doesn’t the top fill first?
❤thamk u!!!!!
The ice tray is not dumping. I am going to defrost it and see if that works.
Thank you! I’m going to try this. I had a tech out 5 different times for the ice maker and he said mostly it’s just a poor design and something inside the ice maker freezes up and suggested turning it off for a day or so and then back on, which usually works. Since then my warranty expired so I haven’t had them back. My fridge also has the optional ice maker in the bottom freezer drawer, which we loved until it quit working about a year ago.
Hello, I defrosted my ice maker with the help of a hair dryer. Its making ice, the bucket is full. When the doors are closed and the lever is pressed the dispenser door flap opens but i dont hear the auger turning and no ice is dispensed. Any suggestions?
First thing I would do is run through the diagnostic. Just to see if you can hear the auger running and the door flap opening and closing. Just running the diagnostic may repair your refrigerator you could also unplug it for a minute or two and then plug it back into reset the system completely. If those steps don't fix it You may need a technician to come look at it.
So…basically the solution was the Reset? (hold down “+”)?
Just doing the reset didn't work for me but it might for you
Thanks so much for making this.
Oh. Man. Thanks SO much. I have a slightly different model number but figured it would work. You saved me a minimum $75 service call. God bless you.
Thanks for this! I used the auto-diagnostics to reboot my ice maker after a filter issue resulted in the ice mold becoming locked in the up position. In case my situation might help somebody else out, I left my water filter in a couple of weeks past 6 months, and it eventually restricted the water flow to the ice maker enough to cause the ice mold not to sense that it had ice cubes in it...when this happens, the ice mold won't turn and dump its contents. And I had not even realized how small the ice cubes were getting as the filter got older. So, knowing the filter had gone past 6 months, I replaced it, but the ice mold was still basically locked. Luckily, I found this video, and running the auto-diagnostics reset the system. I had new ice within a few hours. Additionally, the ice cubes are back to their normal size. So, definitely keep an eye on your filter age and the size of the ice cubes...an older filter can indeed cause the system to shut down.
This is happening to me with the ice maker at the bottom. I changed the filter and then saw ice in the tray but it wouldn’t dump them. I put warm water over the trays and the ice maker dumped quickly after, but that’s it. It didn’t dump again so I’m hoping this helps. I did run a defrost as well hoping something with get the bottom one working.
Update: It didn’t work.
@NeelyJLA I'm not an expert, but if the cubes dumped only after you warmed them, there might be an issue with the heating element that is supposed to handle that by itself.
@@stevedion8031Thanks for pointing that out, you’re probably right. I’ve considered replacing the ice-maker but the top one is still working.
Ugh! My fridge stopped when I did this.
Michael, Super thanks for your video! Hope all the tremendous good karma heads your way. We are all grateful for your time and efforts helping show us the way. Can we call you the “ice man”? 😂
I had my ice tray stuck on my Frigidaire Professional in the down position I was worried it was the motor but I saw your video and ran the diagnostic and the tray reset itself. Thanks so much this was super helpful!
so i put it on cl 26 but mine does not start defrosting the ice maker it just stays on cl 26 and teh resets itself and turrn the fridge on again after about ten minutes what am i doing wrong to get it to start and have the temperature go up like in your video?
Found your video because we just bought a used fridgaire floor model for $400. It has 2 ice makers and the one on the bottom freezer wont come on. Im going to try and run the diagnostics on it tomorrow. I also noticed when we was moving it that there was a small bag with a paper ziptied under it. Wondering if its the diagnostic codes.
How long did it take to get new ice after this procedure? We did this reset per your video, but it's been 6 hours and no new ice has been made... cheers!
Did you ever get ice?
I used a large flat screw driver and a hammer to cut the rivet heads off. I tried a drill first & when the bit would bite it would just spin the rivet. A sharp chisel would work too. I was able to cut both sides off in about 5 minutes.
Whatever works! Didn't think to try that.
My Gallery is FGHB2868TD8 (MAY 2021) The instructions were identical. I ran the auto diagnostic and let the unit cycle through till it simulated an ice making process. The twisting of the tray to eject the cubes was pretty cool. I too forgot to place the cup and took a bath. Anyway during the ice making simulation the unit made a sound like gears having difficulty turning. That was because the motor was coated in ice. After a DF sequence the unit produced a full bin of ice about 15 hours later. Thanks for the (water + crush) to increase ice production. Mine was on low and took forever to make ice. The following day it stopped again so I first ran another DF. This cycle did not take as long (5 minutes) as the first time i ran it the night before (about 20 minutes) which lead me to think that the unit knows when it is defrosted. I also read that not changing the filter can cause problems so I changed it for the first time. Well I can't say for certain if that solved the problem but it did start producing again and I sure could see an increase in water flow. I would conclude that this unit will not produce ice or stop producing ice if the on board computer detects a failure. In a sense the unit is trying to preserve itself. Unlike the way we are used to knowing that a device is malfunctioning by hearing a strange noise but by then it is to late because the mechanics of the ice maker will have destroyed itself trying to cycle but this units software will not allow the device to complete a cycle unless a hardware test carried out by the computer software gets a "thumbs up" to proceed with the next step. I mean in a way its nice that most of us were able to correct our issues by pressing some buttons and not buying expensive parts but technically speaking if Elon Musk can land a rocket on a moving platform in the middle of the ocean then we should be way past trying to perfect the bloody ice maker.
Thank you for this presentation. I have been using the dryer technique but find it very time consuming. My fridge has a tendency to lock up and stop making ice when the bin gets full to the max. I was thinking it may be the "full" sensing mechanism not releasing once triggered. I found this most helpful for my model LFHB2751TF4.😁
Thank you so much! This video was great! Hopefully your wife appreciates your hard ork
Thanks for insight
Thanks
Thanks for the information. After running the self test, I could see that the tray was not being filled with water. I tried the defrost cycle a few times but that did not help. I ended up using a blow dryer to heat up the entire unit. That got things working again so I guess the water line that fills the tray was frozen.
Cool video but c’mon mann show a video of actually taking the originals off.
Thanks for this video. I had the same problem, but based on what you showed I tried this first. I replaced the water filter, which I should have done a year ago. The filter was restricting the water flow to the degree that it was allowed to freeze in the tube at the top (my deduction). So, I took a hair dryer and pointed it at the space between the top of the fridge and the ice maker for about a minute. I wanted about 8 hours and ice started coming. Works great now! Thanks for the explanation.
Waited 8 hrs for ice? I'm at the 6 hr mark and nothing yet. I'll keep an ear out. Thanks!
We had the same problem with it not making ice and there was a piece of ice stuck in the back which made it think the ice tray was full , can also check that too.
