I have been passionate about animals all my life and especially about reptiles. I’ve been keeping reptiles and snakes in particular for almost a decade and want to share my love and passion about animal education to help inform people about reptiles and to understand and respect them.

I Disappeared Again! - Where I’ve Been and What’s Next
Love them a lot. Couldn't risk a bite to traumatize my kid tho so he got a corn.
UVA and UVB really makes a snake more active from my experience.
Just found your channel because of your spotlight on black milk snakes and I think you should have more fans! You’ve got some great content and I’m definitely subscribing
Rat snakes are awesome.....never harm one.
Darwin was a Freemason. His theories are not only unproven and untrue, but still rely on spontaneous generation. It was an attempt to explain away intelligent design so therefore the state is god.
Hey, i actually saw you in Beasties one day a few months ago. Ive been considering one of these for while. Now I'm gonna definitely make a drive to Pueblo (Beasties), unless you have another suggestion? Great video! Thanks
Greetings from Australia . My nephew was often called by our neighbours to remove well fed coastals from their aviaries. They really are beautiful creatures, and even wild examples are reasonably easy to handle. Where we live the temperature often gets down to freezing point over winter and up to the mid 40s (100+°F)in summer. We have kept them a few times over the years before re-releaseing them , and even mid sized wild examples quickly adapted to being handled.
I've noticed my Christmas mountain gopher is significantly more confident than my bull snake. I don't know if that's the norm or just her personality, but she's doing great. Extremely lovable snakes. Always doing something interesting.
Do you know what combo with an IMG creates a dark background with more gold than yours?
Probably an img that isn’t expressing as much or one with hypo and a lot of expression
¡Viva Honduras!
Roughneck monitor is better than peach troath better handling
There are no albino or anery Hondurans in the hobby. If you think you have one, the breeder lied to you. Tangerine is not a form of hypomelanistic.
Rat Snakes are rad man.
Do you think that rosy boa need to be brumated
Ah, Getting further into kingsnakes is TIGHT!! If you know, you know.
Are they similar size to coachwhips, hog island boas, basin green boas and girth ? Will they eat other prey as pigeons, lizard's, squirrel 🐿️ and will it eat large rat every 2,3 weeks ?
Shirt😂
I adore black ratsnakes
I just acquired a captive bred juvenile female Trans Pecos rat snake. So far she has been great at eating f/t pinkies each week. However, like yours she can be a butt head. I typically try and handle her every other day for about 30 minutes. She always is defensive, vibrating her tail and striking at my hands as I try to be gentle with her as she constantly crawls to try and escape. I was recently in Big Bend State Park in Texas a rescued a very large Trans Pecos rat snake resting in the middle of route 170. This snake was at least 5 1/2 feet long and super docile. My encounter with this beautiful, friendly snake prompted me to want to buy a captive bred one. Hopefully, with consistent, gentle handling her name will change from butt head to Hazel. 😂
I know that you still are thinking about how effing complex this video and others were to produce. I could see in your behavior how much you wanted to elaborate, but you had a limitation on the length that the video could be. You had so say to yourslef " Too much... but how do i shorten it? " 😄 I appreciate that, though... You explained as much as you could in a "surface-scratching" kinda way... You did the subject justice, though from an introductory perspective, so be proud of that. I was initially annoyed by the way you talk, but as I went through the video I gained a respect for your knowledge and passion on the subject. 🙌
that being said...
so why would you want to own it? leave shit alone. they’ve been living in peace until mf’ers like you want to capture and exploit them
I grew up part of my life in Rapid City, SD and as a kid in the 60s I absolutely loved going to Reptile Gardens. I used to catch Garter Snakes as a kid and sell them to Reptile Gardens at 25 cents apiece to put in the safari room or possibly be fed to their snake eaters. A lot has changed since then , of course I wouldn't and they wouldn't do that now. I still have captive born and bred reptiles and I will turn 70 years old soon.
My very first snake ever was a Sonoran gopher snake. I was 12 years old and an older hobbyist who lived nearby gave him to me. A great snake, very calm and a very good eater. My morph was a little darker than this one, with a more tan tail.
I live in central Mississippi and have seen them and the eastern indigo on my property
I have two water turtles that need a very good home. Have pond willing to give with them. Our friend passed away and he was a very big animal lover, and these were his babies.
Can you do a video on African File snakes?
@@wrentuathadedanann6209 I’ll look into it for sure
love the video man! I got a question, which is larger in size males or females?
Males are typically longer, but the females are bulkier.
Shes just big boned rosy girl
Subocs don't range into Arizona, only Texas (where the Davis Mountains are) and New Mexico. Also, subocularis is their species name, their genus is Bogertophis. They're also MUCH easier to find than Grey-Banded Kings. I've found dozens of subocs, but still haven't found an alterna.
I have a 5yr old BCO, her feeding response is similar to a retic. She’s so calm after she knows it’s not food time. Definitely a great species Awesome vid!
Just got my calabar from a local reptile shop, they had told me she only eats live, I trust their word they tried many things, but any tips or tricks for getting my girl on frozen?
@@AldrinAntic-ns6sd probably the same as any other snake where you just offer it repeatedly see if they take it. The person who has the one in the video breeds their own rodents so they just always did live
@ I hear that feeding in a completely dark room can work. So I’ll definitely try that. I also plan to offer reptilinks just on the off hand she takes it.
Titrate down. 😊 They eat multiple small prey items, which they constrict all at the same time. Once they start constricting, add one F/D prey item and see if they take it. If they do, then add two at the next feeding and decrease the number of live prey items. Currently waiting for a post-ovulation shed on my big girl. These are such cool snakes. ❤
I've been bitten by WAY more boas than pythons. That being said, the African rock python is the MEANEST animal I've ever worked with. Every one I've ever worked with has been just on fire, all the time. Very intelligent though. Burms are the best big snake for sure. They are giant ball pythons with better appetites. You do see a mean burm every now and again but more often than not they are just sweet hearts. I kept my burm in a 16 x5x5 custom enclosure. She was right at 16 feet when she passed. I miss that big girl.
Awesome delivery on the animal.
Love your channel you're very informative.
Thank you so much for showing the adult snakes!! Whenever I look online for examples of morphs, all I see are babies which isn't much help since they change color as they age.
you left out one of thier best traits...they are not only very inteligent and curious. but they are very friendly towards poeple and are extreamly easy to tame to the point where you could pick up a wild one and make a new best friend that same day.
getting a CB black baby this week !
Thank you for giving this species a spot light I have rescued one of these guys and am doing the best I can but there is NO care advice out there for these guys 😢but my.boy is so sweet and friendly he has a cuddle every night he sits on the bed and curles up in my legs and sleeps ❤
This is just freaking fantastic. I can not thank you enough. My big girl is quickly outgrowing her current home and even though I only have two - you have made this so unbelievable easy. I appreciate this so much. I'm saving up for more of a show display cabinet but this is perfect until mine are full grown (they're only a year.) Then I can put it in the basement for perfect storage.
I’m watching this rn even though I got bit by a children’s spotted python a 2 am today lol 😂
Subscribed glad I found your channel, we love tiger salamanders hopefully we'll obtain a pair soon
Are they similar size too a rainbow boa's which are slender boas and climber's. I know both are slightly bigger than ball pythons.. my ball pythons females upto 250 gram Large rats every 2-3 wks . so i like to know can i feed black rat snakes and rainbow boa's jumbos rats which starts at 280 gram ? Also will like to know if can feed black rat snakes adult squirrel, pigeons, and guinea pigs . Can you house adults black rat snakes comfortable im 75 gallon tanks? I know that adult 6 ft California king snake's can be housed in 55 gallon tanks but there less thick girth .
@@GetmoneyMaine-g5o generally colubrids take smaller more frequent meals because sure the have faster metabolisms than boids so many people leave them on mice and feed a couple at a time or smaller rats, something like a medium rat would be bigger than what people would recommend and would likely lead to obesity. Black rats are one of the longest colubrids in the continent and can get over 7feet long and love to climb so for larger animals, my personal recommendation is something at least 4 feet long
My adult corns, milks and kings take small rats rather easy but the larger ones 5-6 ft will take medium rats too . If black rat snakes are larger versions of sll 3 i mention . Than even doe people feed them 2,3 small rats or 4-6 jumbo mouse. But from just by judhing large corns, kings, milks that eat small and medium rars of course as tgey say the karger tge snake thr bigger meal so what that says to me is black rats will eat large rats twice monthly every 14 days no issues . Only if fed that ssme way on weekly schedule it will maybe get obese but not on 2 wks feeding is more than time to defecate etc . But other itrms they see as prey are pigeons , quail , adult squirrel 🐿️ , dove 🕊️ tokays , chameleon, skinks, beared dragons for varied diet captivity in wild.
I think he needs a shallow area to rest and breathe without having to swim up.
one thing I noticed about my cape is that she loves loves loves to climb and even hangs her head diagonally as if shes waiting for something to fly by.
I love mine, shes 2 years old and the favorite of all of my snakes
I remember my little brother picking up a garter snake, and he tried to give it a kiss, and boy, I think it wanted that kiss more than he did and bit his lip 😂😂😂😂
I live in the middle of the Kisatchie National Forest; 20 years ago there were only a few pockets where these snakes could be found. Now they are impossible to find. I know of a couple of re introduction efforts, but it's still wait and see. Such a shame.
Why do you event talk about this if you dont have this animals ?
Sunglow, Moonglow, no-glow, no go...I love em all! :-) lol
