Cleaning my painting palette/ASMR with wind chimes/No Talking
Просмотров 92Месяц назад
Cleaning my palette is always satisfying. It's something about the pull and stretch of the old paint that's fun. The wind chimes on my deck are the chimes you're hearing; it was very kind of mother-nature to provide a lovely breeze just as I needed it. I hope everyone is having a great day and my little video was a peaceful addition to it. Follow me @mossandsilk on Instagram or @mossandsilk.bsk...

Restoring a 1950's Compact and create NEW Illuminating Makeup from SCRATCH
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.2 года назад
Restoring a vintage Stratton compact to give it new life as a Illuminator compact. The compact is from the 1950's and is solid brass. This model is very small but includes a brilliant little mechanism to open the inside lid via the tiny button that is pressed by the mirror as the compact folds out. This project was my favorite restoration so far, I can't wait to do more. I create makeup for my ...

Great idea to use up scrap yarns thank you! 😊
This is so lovely and you did a terrific job!!!
Nice attempt, but the ribbon should be a floofy fabric to help form a seal when the sieve is fitted, to trap the powder. The sieve needs to be a perfect fit. The puff should also be of a size and shape to cover the screen of the sieve, and stored on top of the sieve to form another level of powder control when the lid is engaged. You need to put the bare minimum of powder in it, and recharge often - reduces leakage. In this case, I would've tried to gently clean the original fittings, and if that failed, I would have re-covered the original sieve frame, or at least used it as a template. Charge the puff by turning the closed compact upside down and giving it one or two taps with a fingernail.
Hello and thank you for the advice, I'll keep it in my back pocket for later. Sharing ways to improve is nice but I find I'm the type who enjoys the experience of making things with my own hands more than I care about being perfect. This was my first ever attempt at restoring a compact; I believe in trying new things even if I'm not perfect at first. Because where's the challenge in doing stuff I'm already perfect at? I succeeded in learning a new skill and I got the compact I wanted. Overall I'm quite happy with how it turned out. I've been using it daily since 2018 with no complaints. It was my birthday gift to myself that year, to have the experience of being able to use a compact I restored with my own hands. For me personally if I get too wrapped up in being perfect it doesn't leave a lot of room for enjoying what I'm doing. Hopefully you still had a good time watching the video, thanks for stopping by. Have an awesome day.
I love how cute it turned out 😍
Thank you! It was pretty fun to make too. Have an awesome day!
It looks to me that you crocheted a tube the diameter of a person's choice. Then secure them in place with bobby pins. Is that correct?
Yup, sure did. This way I can make different sizes depending on the type of curls I want.
This is absolutely wonderful! Was such pleasure to watch! I want to restore a vintage compact with black enamel finish - terribly scratched. Could you give any advice on restoring enamel surface, please?
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Your compact restoration might be harder than expected. Enamel is basically glass that has been melted onto a surface. Trying to fill scratches in enamel is something I haven't attempted myself. There are paints that say they give an enamel finish but need to be cured with heat to be permanent, which may ruin the original enamel on your compact. What I would do in your case is start by finding a jeweler or enamel artist that can give you a better idea of your restoration options that won't damage your compact. Best of luck!
How creative! So cute!
Thank you! 😊
Thank you for sharing your video. I managed to restore my 1950s Compact ❤I used double sided tape under the ribbon to keep it in place and sit flat; it was so fiddly with my big hands lol Thanks again and Happy New Year to you and your family 🌟
That's awesome! It's a great idea to use tape, I'm glad you decided to try doing it yourself. I hope you have a lovely holiday as well!
Awful - not a clue as to what it's all about
Ok, thank you for your opinion. Have a nice day!
thx for sharing your story. you are a strong person. wishing you continued health.

Just fantastic work!!

i found 1 of these lipstick things the other day but was brass and bullet shaped . i detect / its 3 weeks later and have found another 1
I just got a red one from 1910s and can't get it to open
If it's solid metal without any lacquer, maybe try a little oil to loosen it and you can clean properly it afterwards, or if it's old lipstick that is making it stick placing it in really hot water should make it melt enough to loosen it. Mine is basic slider, I'm not sure how I would fix a twist up case if that is what you have. Best of luck!
Watching up side down.. bad video bad demo👎👎👎
Ok, thank you for your opinion. Have a nice day!
How did you make it turn hard? What did you mix with the powder to “seal it?” Please explain
Hello. I used beeswax, coconut oil, and a tiny bit of sunflower oil along with cosmetic pigments. The full video explains more. ruclips.net/video/vhERRtyZxN4/видео.html Thanks for watching!
I use bartender friend and alcohol no water on the mirror
Thanks for the suggestion! I like to try stuff, I'll be the first to admit I don't know everything so I'm happy to hear about others people's experiences. I'll look that up. Have a nice day!
do you know how to put real lipstick in the case?
Good question. I couldn't find a lipstick small enough for this case but I have refilled modern cases before. I chill the lipstick refill in the fridge until its solid enough to handle for a few seconds while I'm placing it in the tube. I've heard some people warm the little pan that pushes the stick up somehow so it sticks better, but I haven't figured it out yet.
The 3D custom mold is so cool! Can you tell me what do you actually use it for? I wish I had one of this, I started collecting vintage makeup compacts and lipsticks and always wish I could put in some new lipstick or powder like you did.
Of course, thanks for the question. I decided to use a custom mold because of the tiny size of the case. It was so small, 1cm in width, that I couldn't find a commercially available mold that would fit. Thankfully my husband's hobby is 3D printing, he measured the parts after I cleaned them and designed the mold for me. Take some measurements of the little pan at the bottom of your cases, the part pushing the lipstick up/ the depth of the case/the inside length of the lid and base your search for a mold on those measurements. If its a standard sized lipstick there should be mold available, I suggest 2 part molds that are easier to load into the case. Best of luck cleaning up your cases!
@@mossandsilk1330 thank you so much
Is it not bad to get the mirror wet as this damaged it from behind and causes black spots eventually on the mirror?
That's a possibility, I guess it would depend on what the mirror is made from and how dry you can get it after. Mold would also be a worry. If you decide to try this project I'd start by identifying any little holes into the back of the case, try to avoid them and drain the water out, drying it as much as possible afterwards. Try using a drinking straw to blow any moisture out of the back and place it in an environment that will dry it out like rice or silica beads. There is an element of luck when working with vintage. Everything is a one of a kind and any restoration can go wrong at any moment. I filmed this a couple years ago, no black spots so far thankfully. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? At some point I had to just do it despite the risk if I wanted to start using the compact. Thanks for your question! Have an awesome day!
Hi, Ive sent you emails. Thank you. :)
I love this video along with the compact restoration. I'm so amazed and impressed - I want to send you a few things to work on for me! Lol. But seriously. 😬
I love how you get to feed and touch chipmunk! Its so wonderful. I can't find any in my area because it's a neighbourhood town. Sad :(
Thats very awesome! :)
Wow awesome I wish they still make lipstick holder and compact like this no plastic.

What product did you use to clean it?
Hi! I just used whatever I had on hand that I knew was safe for skin but also takes off makeup. In this case it was Teatree facewash from The Bodyshop.
@@mossandsilk1330 thank you 😁 I have 3 compacts that I wanted to clean for a while but I was scared that I'll damage them. Thank you for doing this video, it's very helpful 🌻
Hi, your video is very interesting! Where can I buy Tulle that u mentioned to make the screen? Where to buy the Stabilizer to make the powder puff sponge? I wanna try to do it. Thank you. From: Singapore.🙂
Hello! glad to hear it! the tulle you should be able to find at any fabric store, it's used in skirts all the time. The puff used permanent stabilizer that will Not dissolve in water, it should also be at a fabric store. If you can't find it it would be just as good to use a piece of cotton in place of it. I hope you have a fun time antique hunting and fixing up your compact, best of luck!
@@mossandsilk1330 Hello! Happy New Year 2023! Im sorry late reply. May I know what is the green bottle with the word Tea, you use to wipe the powder case? Thank you.
@@gomosh6967 Happy New Year! No worries, its a Teatree oil facial cleanser from a store called TheBodyShop, but any soap/facial cleanser/makeup remover would work as long as it cuts through oils.
@@mossandsilk1330 Hi there, okie! Thank you once again. From: Singapore. :)
@@mossandsilk1330 Hi, I have some other question to ask need your help, may I have your email address please? Thank you. :)
Wow! I'm speechless! Your restoring is very well done! I enjoy watching it. Thanks for sharing. From: Singapore😊
wow so amazing very nice
It would really help if the product name was in focus.
Wow, such a great job
i need one of these
Would love to hear more about your medical condition and life as a transplant patient. You can be a voice for many others
No you are not weird. You conciously choose to do something for the future generations. Thats the greatest gift to earth.
God bless you. Came here from your lipstick tube restoration video. You are so brave. Love and strength and prayers.
You probably could have just cleaned the old screen and puff instead of making new ones
hello! thanks for your comment. I personally chose to make new ones because the thought of the over 100 year old screen and puff touching my face made my skin crawl. I tried anyways just to see but they disintegrated. I cut the footage out because the video was a bit long.
Awesome!!
Thanks!
You restored it beautifully! Do you know the name of the compact brand of this one ?
Thanks! The brand didn't stamp their logo anywhere, not surprising given how old this compact is.
what are you using to clean, alcohol or just water? did the color fade?
I used water and the teatree oil facial cleanser from The Body Shop to clean away any traces of makeup from the last owner. The brass is not bright anymore from gaining a lovely patina from all the hands that have touched the compact through the years.
Thank You
U know u can make the powder solid by adding rubbing alcohol on the top of it and press it til it’s solid
Awesome work. I had a semi burnt coty it had some rust on it, I just put it in a jar with vinegar for 24 hours it cleaned it, it took the rust off to. But your way was relaxing to watch.
Awesome work. End result definitely looked awesome. You got mad skills!
Thanks so much! :)
