      @KevinBoyce-m1o I'm not sure what you mean. Yes the young lady in the lesson did this in one hour. She understood what it was supposed to feel like and is at a developmental age that she could use it right away.

    During the setting drill, what do you mean by "plug your ears"? I don't understand what you mean by: "The faster you plug your ears, the higher the set goes."

      @@my5 Thank you for your direct response to my question. So, then, what you mean is: when I raise my hands up, my shoulders rise to cover my ears. Doing this rapidly (while serving) creates more force to send the ball up into the air. But rather than focus on "forcing the ball up into the air", you are having them focus on the body mechanics involved in producing that outcome. I like it. Thanks.

    Coach Addie, we applied your principles in our practice with our daughter today. I was amazed with the results! She was able to time her jump, catch the ball in the right portion of it, snap her wrist, and hit the ball down and not out! This is just amazing and I have to express a big "Thank You!" for taking the time to go through this process, break it down, explain it, and make a highly effective video (or set of videos, really). We have been to so many volleyball camps and with so many coaches. Either we hear, "don't worry about it, she will get it in two or three years" or we hear bits and pieces. I have no doubt that many of the coaches were sincere, but it is clear to me that something was missing. Either they were not detailed oriented and left it to the person's natural rhythm and athleticism to fill correct their deficiencies, or maybe the coaches did not really know how to get our daughter there. I think that since you actually lived what you teach and were able to play at a high level, you have an insight that most coaches. You also are obviously highly analytical and you also have the mental strength to push through and get to the root of the various issues. Most people can't go that deep. We all have multiple interests in our life that competes with the time and mental energy we can put into learning a task. Some have kids, sick parents, a demanding job, mental challenges, money challenges - you name it. So, I don't hold it against the coaches we have worked with. I also understand that their are many people who really DON'T wand to give away all their "secrets." In our interactions with other volleyball parents, we have found that many, if not most, are not free with sharing their knowledge. We tell them about camps and instructors and find out that they have already used those resources and did not tell us. I guess I was naive to think that we are all on the same journey and to share all that I have learned, especially things learned the hard way. I am learning that in competitive sports, there is an unwritten rule of not giving aide to your rivals. I can understand this, especially if the girls will be competing for the same position(s). All I can say is that in one hour of applying the principles in your videos, we have taken a great, great leap in hitting with form and accuracy. Now, I have to decide whether or not I should be a selfish "b#$#$@d" like everyone else and keep your videos to myself, or share them with other volleyball parents. I really don't know which way to go but kudos to you for keeping us from having to spend hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars, spinning our wheels chasing this approach and that approach. Sorry for the long post, I just had to get this off my chest and illustrate to people how special your videos have been to us and to anyone who really wants to prioritize volleyball and not just depend on others to get their child to reach his/her potential in the shortest amount of time.😀😀😀

    Do you have any advice on attack timing? I'm having trouble when it comes to knowing when to start my approach and i find I'm often too early so i end up under the ball, but if i delay a little then I'm too late. Any tips would be appreciated.

    • @my5
      @my5 9 месяцев назад

      If you're using a 3 step approach, your first step happens just as the ball leaves to setters hand. The next thing to look for is the ball rounding the top of its rainbow. just before it comes down toward you, is when you do the 2 step plant and jump up to it. Make sure to pause on the first step if it's a high set because if you cruise right through it,you'll end up being early even when start on time.

    Thanks for your videos, they are truly amazing. I've noticed that you usually use two balls for drills. When a player learns, it's better to go down to one ball first. This is because the brain cannot process that much information before a new skill is imprinted.
