Hi everyone! My name is Lori and I have a B.S. in Psychology, an M.A. in Educational Psychology, and an M.S. in Quantitative Psychology. This channel is used for explaining statistics, and research methods in the social sciences. This channel is where I will be uploading content for all of my online courses. I will be creating short introductory-level videos of confusing concepts that students tend to have trouble understanding.

Thank you so much. Working on my MBA right now and I struggle with Statistics!
This video is great, aside from the audio. It's educational and helps in refreshing the previous statistic lessons I have encountered.
If it is not necessary to have a column containing deviation values on your sheet, I'd re-write the formula using array operations: SUMSQ(A2:A20-G2). Also, as an alternative to the SUMSQ, you can use the SUMPRODUCT function: SUMPRODUCT(A2:A20-G2,A2:A20-G2).
This is so helpful, thank you!!!
You are a legend Dr. Lori! Thank you so much for sharing this!! Highly useful
Hey I'm just wondering what version of Qualtrics you are using here? Qualtrics Plus? Insight?
This was several years ago, so I'm not positive because it was through a different university. However, when I log in with my university account now, the matrix option for questions is still similar.
thanks that's really helpful
especially demonstrate the way to create likert scale and how to avoid someone trying to mess up of the data.TKS
Is it possible to have your email address to make an enquiry?

Excellent way of explanation, Thank U
You're welcome! :)
WONDERFULLY EXPLAINED
Lori please i need help with how to create demographic questions on qualtrics
You should be able to import these from Qualtrics Certified Library. Where you go to add a question, click import from library, Qualtrics library, Qualtrics Certified Questions, Demographics. Multiple choice question types usually work, but if you're wanting age to be more precise, you can add a text entry question with validation: Add the question and then add validation from the response requirements--content type: number. That only allows age to be entered as a number. You can also specify a minimum and maximum age so you don't get someone who meant to write 27 and ends up typing 278 or something like that.
Sorry, apparently answered from a different account! Still Lori, though. :)
Thank you Lori. I am a public Health and recently got introduced to qualtrics. Your video really helped me. Thank you so much
HOW DO YOU INSERT YOUR TABLE INTO YOUR APA PAPER?
I don't know of a time where you'd ever actually insert this as a table--it's more for preparing to write your paper. If copy-paste is easier for you, I'd just look at the findings section and copy-paste similar findings together, then synthesize that information into a cohesive paraphrasing of the findings. For example, if three studies you entered on the matrix have findings that academic motivation is negatively correlated with academic procrastination, then you might state: Research has identified a negative correlation between academic procrastination and academic motivation (Citation 1, 2021; Citation 2, 2020; Citation 3, 2019). Then you might do a bit more in-depth reporting about effect sizes or problems with the sample, such as: Although, the strength of the correlations varied between -.32 (Citation 1, 2021) and -.74 (Citation 3, 2019) and only one study reported a sample great than 100 participants (Citation 2, 2020). ***I hope this helps, Carla!
Thanks for sharing this with us
You're welcome!
Perfect video, may you please share the excel sheet.
Hi can you share the excel sheet
Thank you Lori. Very helpful video.
Thank u that was so helpful 😊
can have your email?
I ordered my first paper on myeasypaper.com few weeks ago, and since that time they are my favs.😍😍😍 It’s very cheap but the papers are not worse (and even better) than those on the famous websites.💕💕💕
This was very helpful and I was definitely doing it the way you showed in the beginning then I thought youtube should show how to do a likert scale the correct way on qualtrics and then I find this video . Thanks !
This is helping but can I ask, I have 30 items on my likert scale, and each 10 item is to measure specific data then I can include them all under the same one table ? As for the data later on to be entered in SPSS?
You can, but I would highly suggest you make three separate tables, but name the items depending on what construct is being measured. E.g. Interest Item 1, Interest Item 2 (reverse code this), Interest Item 3, etc... when you get the generated data, it will be easier to clean up that way.
Hey! Could you please explain how to know gender male or female got higher score?
Sorry, this comment was in the "held for review" section and I did not realize it. It honestly does not matter. You just have to assign a value (0 = Male, 1= Female) or (0= Female, 1= Male). Either way is perfectly acceptable. You just need to make sure you know which you have done. The easiest way to do this is use that format for all of your data sets. I find it the easiest to use 0-1 as Male-Female because that's naturally the way I mention them.
Sure wish you would have talked audibly...
Sorry about that! I will try to improve this in the future. Thank you for letting me know. :)
Wonderful video! Thank you Lori! ^^
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for posting this! I have been struggling this semester with so much information and no assistance due to Covid shutdowns.
You're so welcome!
Hey Lori - Thanks for the video. I wanted to understand the scoring mechanism here. In my matrix likert table, i have three scales - Yes, No, NA In the end, i want my survey to calculate score for each block where the formula goes like : Score = NO OF QUESTION WHERE YES IS SELECTED/(TOTAL NO. OF QUESTIONS-NO OF QUESTIONS WHERE NA IS SELECTED) How can I achieve this in Qualtrics??
Sorry I didn't see this until now. What I would typically do is when you're labeling the selections, assign numbers (e.g., Yes = 1) and label it 1-Yes. Then, when you download the Excel file for data analysis, you can do the =COUNTIF function and check how many of each were selected. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the video! This was a big help, I'm diving into Qualtrics for the first time, and this answered my question effectively.
Glad it helped!
Thank you
You're welcome!
Thank you I"m not in your class but found it helpful
You're welcome! :)
Thanks a lot! this is helpful!
You're welcome!
Good job. I found it easier to design my survey after watching videos. I had previously done the questions one by one in a different survey and its tiring.
I'm glad this helped!
This video is to help with your Excel Assignment. Please let me know if you have questions!
The dreaded APA style!!! There are many different types of references out there. Here is a quick explanation on how to cite peer-reviewed journal articles in APA format. I hope this helps!
Thank you so much! Btw, are there any changes for the lates APA 7th ed?
@@jamilajulie5717 Not on how to cite a journal article, specifically. There are always new formatting changes, though. It's really annoying LOL!
Finding journal articles can be difficult if you're not sure what to do! I hope this video helped in understanding how to find peer-reviewed journal articles.
Do you still have questions about IVs and DVs? If you do, please let me know! I'm always open to creating a more in-depth video and answering your questions!
Have you tried to follow this tutorial on paired samples t-tests in SPSS? Let me know in the comments and please like and subscribe if this video helped you and you'd like to see more videos of this type! :) Also, leave me questions if you have any!
Using Qualtrics can be confusing sometimes. There are so many wonderful options to optimize your surveys! In psychological research, one of the types of questions we use are Likert scale questions. Rather than making each individual statement on your measure a separate entry, I show you how to use the matrix function. Have you ever tried the matrix function? Leave me a comment and tell me about your experience!
Hey everyone! This is just a quick video to help you run an independent samples t-test in SPSS. I've used my love of all things Harry Potter to put a spin here. Let me know if you like it! Please give this video a thumbs up and comment if it helped you or a thumbs down and comment if it didn't and you need more clarification. I'm always willing to help clarify information or make better videos attending to your needs! :)
Mam, this visual is not that much clarity
Hello I was just curious if you have an email where I could get specific help? I am so confused by SPSS and I'm in an online research methods class. Love the way you explain and teach SPSS! thank you :)
Hi Ali! Thank you so much for the compliment! I am happy that my explanations are easy to understand! At the moment, I am a bit busy in graduate school, but I am planning to make more videos when I have time. If you have specific video requests, please let me know! :) Hang in there with your methods course. SPSS isn't so bad once you get the hang of it. I learned quite a bit about using it just by making up my own datasets and trying to run tests with them. I chose variables that interested me to make it more fun. :)
Oh you're very welcome! It's deserved and oh okay, I completely understand. Thank you for the encouragement and I pray grad school is going well! I'm curious on the split file function and independent sample t test! Specifically the functions and then a little clarity of analysis. So if using your example with HP. Comparing the witches answers: disagree or agree to each other and then doing the same for wizards but not combining the two sexes. Thank you for replying! :)
If I understand correctly, do you mean that you have witches and wizards in your data, but you are only interested in witches at the moment? My issue with this question is that for an independent samples t-test you have to have two groups to compare on something. If you have another variable to add (let's say they pureblood versus half-blood versus muggle), then you wouldn't really compare witches, then wizards separately. You'd run an ANOVA (2 x 3) rather than run a t-test. Now, if what you're asking is how to just split a file between witches (coded as a 0, let's say) and wizards (coded as a 1), then you can easily do that by just using the Data>>Select Cases. Click "If Condition is satisfied" and click "If". You'll move the variable (Gender) to the box and then you'd write in there "Gender = 0" and click "continue". That will select all of the witches and deselect all of the wizards. Hope that helps!
Merlin's beard! If my stats lecturer was as awesome as you with the Harry Potter references I swear I would be top of the class. Thank you for your video! This is my second time around doing Research Methods and Statistics and SPSS and myself just have never mixed well. You've definitely helped, so, I thank you!
+The Catto I'm glad this helped! I can't hold back the Harry Potter references...ever. I thought it would be much more interesting than doing something with drug A vs. drug B or therapy A vs. therapy B. :)
