It's the 1.5 liter turbo that's causing this issue! The turbo 4 cylinder is creating too much pressure and pushing unburnt gasoline past the rings then into the crankcase. People wonder why Honda chose to remove the "earth dreams" badge off the top of their engines, this is why. Most likely going to see a ton of blown Honda 1.5s in about 10 years' time due to the gas causing the oil to lose viscosity and tearing up the bearings.

Thanks for sharing. Appreciate it. I just bought used Honda CRV 2020 1.5T with 50k miles on it. I have a option got go f0r extended warranty of 65k miles/48 months. Would that be a wise idea to get a power terrain warranty just incase Head gasket fails or something big.

I'm a mechanic and every oil change smells like gasoline when changed but I just did an oil change on a 2018 1.5 CR-V and the oil smelled like pure, raw fuel. This is insanely poor practice. Be better off with a 2010 with the K24. NO OTHER GDI ENGINES DO THIS. It is NOT normal.

Mix 0w-20 and some 5w-20 50-50 and the problem is fixed. This or take it to the dealership… they’re doing software updates to the ECU.

If I may ask do you believe all the 1.5 petrol engines are affected by this problem? I live in the UK and I am afraid to buy a car with a 1.5 they are available from the year 2018 to 2021. I can also see a 2.0 petrol engine naturally aspirated with no turbo less power and worse fuel consumption I wonder if it would be for the best to go for a 2.0.

Please note that Honda is no longer genuine Japanese company since 2009, the 7th president, Mr. Ito is a Korean Japanese, and the 8th president, Mr. Yago as well. Since then, many of Honda's parts have been made in Korea, the same source as Hyundai. It's no wonder that the quality deteriorates. Mr.Soichiro Honda is crying at the grave now. He once said"don't get involved with Korean people". Because they stole a lot of technology from him. This is a secret rumor that "Honda has been hijacked by Koreans", but today it appears as evidence of these problems that Honda has never had before.

Did you change the oil or a shop? They use to under fill my oil all the time just to tell me my engine needed work.

honda is a liar..cheat and fraud company....thousands of honda crv turbo owners have same complaint and there is no solution...flat denial ...and blame on customer for not chnaging oil at honda dealership..idiots

This is really sad to me. I've worked at a Honda dealership for 13 year and personally handled service for hundreds of this generation of CR-V. This is a normal function of the engine and we have not had to address one single issue due to oil dilution. In fact we have next to no mechanical issues with this generation. I have years and thousands of service record to prove it.

Oil life is not accurate on hondas. Get your oil change done every 3000 miles/6 months to prevent damage to the turbo and timing chain. These crvs are very reliable, don't let this nutcase sway your opinion because he probably had his engine oil overfull when the service was performed or took it to someone who was not a dealer. No way they wouldn't have recommended an oil change. This guy is fuckin nuts.

I asked dealers in Australia, the respond is, they are not aware of this. By playing dumb, suggest that the problem is still there. Probably a design fault. I think Honda is in a very difficult position. To bring back the 2.5L natural aspirated motor, is admitting that thereis a problem with the 1.5 Turbo.

Yup I bought one 2017 and it’s minus 55 degrees here in Canada. The oil is really really dirty at only 2500km My old corollas oil didn’t get dirty till about 7000km

Honda quality and reliability isn't what it used to be its a shame, Honda has been sitting on their laurels and past reputation for too long, i am never getting another Honda ever again, for now on i buy Toyota, Mazda, Hyundai/kia,Subaru and Ford

Report your problems to NHTSA - so it can be on record. Honda is trying to sweep this under the rug. Shame on Honda.

Do you still have it? I wonder if the new ones still do this, I saw Scotty Kilmer recommends an oil catch can for GDI engines, mostly for carbon build up but I wonder if it would help this issue.

A couple of days ago I was at the Honda dealership looking at the 2017 Honda CR-V touring and the 2017 Honda Accord V6 touring( I saw the 2018 accord touring 2.0T 10 speed automatic, I just liked the transmission but I didn’t like the car at all that why I was looking at the 2017 V6) I like both cars the CR-V and the 2017 Accord V6, after I watched so many videos of complains of this oil dilution with the CR-V and that Honda said that this is rare and mostly happens in very cold weather, well I live in Canadá so I think that’s is going to be a problem🥴, so I did like a lot the CR-V but after all of that problems I end up with the 2017 accord V6 touring sedan, I love my car and the only complain is that I wish is AWD 😅

I changed two days the oil of my thousand 18 Honda Civic The cockpit 3.79 L and I take old or in a plastic container close to 6 L and the smell of gas it was Unbelievable terrible I hate my car and I’m driving for one year in my car now at 49,000 K.

All I will buy is Honda. Just like any other company, there are design flaws and this is very unfortunate. I would say to anyone considering buying a Honda with this engine in it... don't until the issue is resolved. I wish they would have resolved it by now. It's an engineering design flaw. If it's not broke don't fix it. They should have stuck to what works. I have never seen a high mileage car with a turbo. I say to Honda, please go back to what works and omit the turbo. I can speak for every other Honda enthusiasts when i say this... all we care about it dependability and sustainability. This 1.5 turbo was a mistake; mistakes happen we get it... sucks but we get it. Just fix it and move forward. They're going in the wrong direction. I stopped buying GM for this reason... lacking dependability and sustainability. Honda, learn from your mistake, fix it, and move forward not backwards. I have an 07 CRV with a 2.4 litter engine with 254,000 miles on it. you won't see this out of the 1.5 turbo.

Just change your oil once a month and problem temporarily solved. They gave those cars a 6 year unlimited mileage warranty so I’ll at least hold onto mine that long... I decided to retire my 99 crv stick shift which is probably the most reliable car ever made, only to find myself driving the 400,000 mile crv more that the new one for fear of damaging the new cars expensive turbo. Currently Honda is replacing my engine. I think they put different piston rings in the new engine to really fix the oil dilution issue. I have been fighting Honda for two years to get this fixed and they finally gave in after calling them every day and threatening a class action suit. Good luck I hope you get this dealt with properly.

Honda CRV is a good vehicle, it's the 1.5L turbo engine that's the problem. the LX model with 2.4L NA engine is not causing any problems
