@@PerfectVocalsAcademy dude….i am currently working on a project and I was using the combination of the 1176-LA2A….it sounded ok….but after watching your video I decided to combine the distressor at a 4:1 ratio into the DBX 160 and instantly my vocals were in the pocket….all my vocals….i shoulda tried this earlier…I knew about it but thought since then the 1176-LA2A may have been the better route considering its popularity….i was wrong by a landslide….thank you!

Yes definitely try autotune. It’s really a great plugin. Both are great in their own ways

I was playing with vocal eq a bit but that plugin kept crashing my system. I’m on latest OS and latest Protools so there may be a bug to fix. Vocal eq seems awesome though 👏🏻

Yeah, to be honest, I don’t even really use this reverb plugin on vocals anymore. I believe they designed this plugin more for instruments and not vocals

In this video I was using 2 waves cla76 compressors. Currently I have been using waves dpr402 compressor and safari owl control compressor. I don’t really have a go to compressor I just try out different things until I like the way it sounds 👍🏻

A/B back and forth and listen closely. I have learned that a lot of subtle eq moves can add up to the “big picture” sound you are going for. It’s not one large drastic cut in a vocal…it’s doing several different eq moves that balance out the frequencies in a vocal

@@PerfectVocalsAcademy My ears are so untrained at knowing if there's a bad frequency, let alone where or how severe it is. In order to get the loudness I want, I just cut off the super low end, put a big crater right in the mids, and then call it a day. Terrible, I know, and it doesn't even really work. I desperately need to be able to do this but I don';t really know if the sound I hear when I "search" the eq is normal or wrong? Everything sounds the same level of weird when I isolate boost one area. How do I know a bad area from a normal area when I boost them?

@@paolosworld99 for sure, that’s one of the hardest things…training the ears. If you haven’t checked it out already, I have an online course with ear training called The Vocal Mixing Masterclass. You can find it on the website!

Every RUclips video about frequency ear training always uses a purely static signal to show what vowel sounds they're listening for which is easy to hear, but when they work on a vocal I have absolutely no concept of what they are hearing and where. I'd be easy to tell if a vocal is super boomy or whatever but these people are able to hear a perfectly fine vocal chop and then reduce a very specific midrange point a mere 2db and then say it makes a huge difference. I have no clue what they're talking about!

I have quite a few videos with singers, this video however was about mixing a bad vocal recording. I just didn’t really have any projects with bad vocal recordings from singers. I had a few projects of rappers with bad recordings 👍🏻

I don’t believe it’s using eq, instead it’s multiband compression.When I use it, it sounds like it’s compressing a certain boxy area and the more you turn it up, the more it compresses

@@PerfectVocalsAcademy Question is there any benefit to EQing at all compared to Multiband compression? At least in turns of controlling frequencies? It seems like MB comp is superior. What’s your take

@@brokenhero6828 I definitely prefer multiband compression over just static eq. Certain frequencies tend to build up just at certain times in the vocal and not the whole time. So it’s a way more natural and smooth approach

No release or attack on this. It simply only ducks out frequencies in the areas that the sidechain audio is prominent in.
