Time Lapse Aeronca 11AC N9214E remove fabric
Просмотров 6859 лет назад
Several teens from the Aeronca Museum youth program helped with the removal of the fabric on the 11AC Chief project that we just brought home. This two hour effort was reduced to this 1.5 minute time lapse video. Teens in our youth program are taught the trade skills, workshop disciplines and American aviation history. Two of our teens have graduated high school and will be entering aviation sc...
Die Cutting Wing Rib Gussets - Aeronca Museum
Просмотров 5369 лет назад
The Aeronca Museum is using dies cutters to make wing rib gussets from 1/16 plywood. This video shows our first success. (Since this video was created, the process has been further simplified.) Each pre-war Aeronca has nearly 1000 gussets, so die cutting them is fast and accurate. This is helpful to the museum because we have youth volunteers that are helping to restore our airplanes.

Around parameter of Sandbar Mitchell island
Просмотров 12511 лет назад
June 18 2013. My first summertime visit to Sandbar Mitchell. We circled the island as we departed. The white bag tied to the tree at the 1:03 mark is the point shortest to the crash site. The beginning of the video starts where we landed, which was 100 yards too far east of the spot marked by the bag. Once we found the crash, we came straight south to the shore and marked it with the bad so we ...

Great video and idea, thanks for sharing Todd!! I would have loved to see the step by step of the making. Can you share the website links for the materials you used for the piano hinges and the L-shape aluminum channel? or the specifics for both.

Could code allow pins on the folding door with alignment points on the floor. Alignment would be the main focus for sure but the end product could be a win. A second lock would come into play.

I really like this idea. I have a 30x50 detached shop with 2 garage bays. I live in the south, and plan on adding a mini split air conditioning system to the building to help keep the humidity off my machines to prevent corrosion. Also, in the thick of summer, its almost unbearable to be out in the hot working on anything that requires effort... lol. Needless to say, it's probably not a good idea to cool a space, and let all of the air escape every time I need to enter or exit. A man door (pedestrian door) would be the perfect solution to this. I've searched high and low, and have been unable to find a kit that allows retro fit of a man door to an existing roll up garage door. It stands to reason that this would be entirely possible to accomplish with a little fabrication skills. Anyway, Im thinking about making something similar. Seeing yours lets me know its entirely possible. Thanks for positing this.

Awesome Door. Here are my suggestions since you asked. A thin wide plate bolted across the bottom ( say 4" x 1/4" steel bar) would allow you to reduce the step over to code height and eliminate the bottom Unistrut stiffener. Some kind of interlock is needed for dummies who try to roll up the door with the walkthrough open.

You rock Todd!! I've wanted something like this for the past 3 years because I do a lot of gardening and find myself going in & out of the garage all the time. We have a single 2 car garage door and what a pain to have to open it all the time!! I reached out to our local contractor to see if he might be interested in doing something like this to our existing door and your video was so helpful!! Any chance you would be willing to come to Long Island, NY and convert our door?? :) Not sure where you live, but we'd pay for your travels and building time! ;) BTW: It's been 7.5 yrs. since you did this and I don't see a follow up video... how did it hold up over time?? :)

Have you made any progress/updates on this? I would like to be able to let my dogs in and out without opening the entire garage (and waking the kids in the morning) as well as have a power-loss solution to still enter the garage to release the opener... the thought being that a snow storm hits while we are away and the generator is inside (along with the shovels and snow blower!). The proof-of-concept alone may help me talk my wife into letting me cut into the garage... how is this not a commercial product? -Shawn
