If you are thinking of replacing your old evaporative cooler, check out these tips first
UPDATE SEPT 2022 / Our new contact number is 0430 165 781.
Our advice on how to find the best evaporative cooler for your home. When we come across a cooler that is more than 15 years old, which will cost more than AUD$1000 to repair, we generally suggest replacing your cooler.
When this happens, you may go to a range of places and you will be bombarded with a lot of information about why they are the best, why you should invest and why you should avoid other brands. To be perfectly honest - evaporative cooling works exactly the same.
When finding the right cooler for your home, we look at three things. The efficiency, the simplicity of the unit and trying to get longevity from your unit.

False information with the power consumption they do use more power when you have the fan speed high
They suck horrible on really hot days
Genius and affordable. Some one needs to make a flush mount register/louver that can open and close without having to unscrew it to put those insulated pillows in the vent for the winter, or one that has a total closing damper that isn't 3 inches off the ceiling. I know Would buy one. well 2 actually. I really like this idea so thanks for sharing. the magnetic options wont work on most ceiling vents. especially if they are 20x20
whats up with the sex making backhround music
I just got new pads and it smells horrible what can I do to fix it
Make sure they're not the formaldehyde ones like mentioned in the vid.
I thought I had 77x24 space so I bought 2 12" wide 60" tall cooling pads. I actually only have 20" width of space the pads are obviously supposed to go a certain direction (taller rather than wider) so I have a question : Could I cut a 60" cooling pad into 3 20" pads and make a 20"x36" pad or do the pads only work in one direction?
I cant find any honeycomb pads to fit my portable unit, can i cut the honeycomb ones to size?
Yes you can cut them . Started a project of adding more media to my cooler and extra pump . used long blade bread knife is one way . I bought some extra media on ebay 2 years ago
Great video, great info. Wish you were in Arizona!
Thank you! I never would have thought to ask if spas had formaldehyde in it.
Can I swap out my honeycomb filter for the straw ones? I can not afford the honeycomb ones that came with my system. :/
You can use duracool pads, is cheaper.
The cost of these specialized pads has gone up to 250 dollars to replace. Ridiculous! Take an old saw and cut off the calcified area to extend life!
Mine uses aspen wood shavings. A lot more robust than pea straw!
Aspen pads work well and their inexpensive to replace, when mine get calcified with hard water I replace them about two times during the summer. I have to dry them out every night by not running the pump for about a half hour that's the trick to keep them from molding.
DI or RO water is the answer I think.
To make RO water is very slow and you throw away about five gallons of water to make 1 gallon of RO water. Evaporative coolers use lots of water so you would never be able to keep up.
@@markkulyas2418 You're right about RO, my under-sink RO filters can't keep up. However, DI water could replace RO in this case.
How can you be contacted? Phone number not going through and I don't see any email. Thanks.
Great video. I didn't know that the fan uses the same power whatever speed it's set to. But that makes sense. I cleaned a load of black off of the ceiling vents... I guess that means there's a load of mould in the ducts?
I need him in my life ( and not only for the evaporative cooler 😈😈)
His tips are true. I hated my evap until I started using it properly now it's great, don't need a split system.
I’m in SA, I just turn the cnt on.
3:55 what fell from the sky?
Why is my new BreezAir unit constantly draining water even when it is turned off
Thank you so much for making this video. We were doing everything wrong😂 You are a legend! It has been very frustrating trying to work out what we were doing wrong. Thanks so much!🎉
Thank you. My mission was to educate people because 80 percent of the time when I go into peoples homes they were not using it correctly 😊
Is it ok to leave it on all day with proper ventilation? I worry about moisture. I live in country Victoria where it is pretty dry but still have concerns especially with carpet and upholstery.
Hi there. Yes you can run it 24/7 i do! If you find the floors getting damp you don’t have enough window space open
@@allskillsevaporativeandgas Thanks for your reply. I've been running it most days now according to your tips and it's working heaps better than it was before. Whole house stays cool all day now that I direct all the air out through the main living area windows. Thanks heaps! No moisture issues at all 😃
today in melbourne temp was around 33C, after using ducted cooling, I figured it out that my tiles are getting wet. Is this normal ? how to prevent this ?
No you need to open more windows and don't use the evaporative when it's too humid. If your tiles are wet turn it to fan mode
awesome well detailed video. Thanks. Super humid day today and there's water on our tiles throughout the home. Was trying to conserve energy by having the system on low being watchful on energy consumption. Will crank it. ;)
Evaporative cooling is bullshit, just get an air conditioner.
An air conditioner wouldn't work my house is too big
my need some filter
Turn. Off. Your. Music.
@allskillsevaporativeandgas I had a plumbing company install a brand new BONAIRE evaporative cooler on my roof and they could never get the high-speed to work, only low. They keep insisting it's my switch inside my house but the switch worked originally on my last air conditioner and we have tried 5 different brand new switches. Can you point me to any of your videos that explain how to do the tension pulley for the fan because somebody suggested that's why the high-speed doesn't work.
Hello… we have never replaced a cooler and leave the old controller as it could damage the cooler and void warranty. I’m sorry you weren’t given good advise
Why doesn't he talk about polyester foam pads?
I tried them they don't work very well, the Aspen wood pads work the best for me.
Thank you, I was never sure of how much window space to open. I live in the Antelope Valley, SoCal. It will be 112 today😅
Can i use Sponge as pads since it holds more water?
You also need to consider the airflow, sponge is very dense
Thank you. I'll be moving into a home with an evap cooler later this month. I've never used one before, and want to be sure that I'm using it correctly. This really helped me to understand what should and shouldn't be done when using mine :)
You should get a window fan with air extractor to blow out the air
Where do you get them?
Which type of pads will you use on a evaporative cooler with water supply disconnected, used as a mere makeup air system? Which ones are the quieter of them all?
Hello, my name is jeimy from brazil…
I presume you do not service evaporative coolers on 2 story homes
Top Video mate, very difficult trying to find an informative well presented video on anything let alone air cons you nailed it bro
Do you know where to get a replacement for the pads? mine keeps smelling like mold. I keep cleaning it but in vain. I guess my air cooler needs a brand new honeypad. Can anyone got a genuine website to order? Thanks in advance.
Any tips on very humid days ?
After 5 hours my CoolBreese evap stop working
thanks for the info
Not sure the costs he is asking but here in good old Australia we get shafted all the time i have a cool breeze evap they want about 600 700 dollars for bloody paper pads. He He didn't mention foamed polyester pads this video explains ruclips.net/video/9wbq3p7aI3U/видео.html just trying to see where i can buy them
Thank you great job. You confirmed own thoughts!
Would have never guessed this
This would be great if I weren't being water boarded with that stupid music.
Hi there. It cost me 5 grand to make the video to give the information for free. I’m sorry it wasn’t good enough
I wish you would have included a link to the Eco brand filter pads you referred to because I can't find them.
i recently got an evaporative cooler, it uses the thick media with all the holes in it. However, I live in a dusty area and it is sucking a lot of dust into my house, triggering my allergies. Is there something I can add like a thin filter over the pads to prevent the dust from blowing in? How do I solve this problem?
if you are in a dusty area use it on cool. when the pads are wet they are sticky and dust and pollens are captured and wash out =) Damian
Why not just shut the vent cover?
Im not sure which register you have but even when the slider shuts the louvers its not tight enough to shut out the cold air blowing through the vent. Put your hand up there in the winter time and feel the cold air blowing in. the canvas cover on the outside doesnt do enough to stop heat loss.
My question is how do you know which one to choose based on your living conditions. You mentioned the weather and water comes into play. So can you break it down on which one workout based on location.
I'm not sure what you're asking, really. Here's like a basic over view. Evap Coolers work well in hot dry climates. They don't work well in very humid climates. You don't typically want to use them in enclosed places (like inside your house with zero open window). If you do use it an enclosed area like a house with all windows and doors shut, it will cool for a few minutes, followed by everything turning damp and muggy within your house, and once there's no more ability for more humidity (fully saturated) in the air, you will get basically no more cooling effect. If you are wanting to use a swamp cooler (evap cooler) in your house, it's usually installed at a window where the air is taken fresh from outside, cooled by the evaporative process, and then allowed to be exhausted at the opposite side of the house. Even in 95F weather, the air inside the house will likely be closer to 80. 15F degree cooling all for like a couple hundred watts to run a fan and a water pump.
Thank you so much for the info
