      @computerzen 5 лет назад

      Hi Chris; there is so much involved to mobilize a rescue, (is this a legitimate call for help, where are they, how can they be reached (helicopter, boat, hike in, etc.). You can imagine how long it would take with a device that just sends an SOS before people are mobilized to do a rescue and are they sending the appropriate people and equipment. With the Garmin inReach and the new SpotX it totally changes these scenarios from a recovery to a rescue. Computer Zen 855-741-4200

      Because when you hit the SOS you are connected to a Garmin employee and they have a whole script they have to go through and then they have to find the local responsible authorities for that area and coordinate with them as a middle person between the person needing rescue and the actual rescuers. Garmin employees and rescue dispatchers have to go through up to several or more channels to get through to a medevac.

      @CaptBreitling 7 лет назад

      It depends, You can purchase insurance specifically for this. It also depends on who rescued her, County, state,gvt or private. This helicopter was private so they will probably get a nice bill.

    • @ddff5242

      According to garmin, the vast majority dont cost anything. Sar takes a cut of fishing/hunting/camping/etc... license fees in order to support sar. But it does depend on state and county laws if not in a national park. Some counties have negligence laws that will pin the cost to the individual if it is deemed as negligent. Ie.. bridge says dont walk on bridge and you do anyways and break your legs... I recommend watching the garmin recorded inreach webinars as they cover this topic.

      Never understood why these helicopters rescues are so expensive... Here in Miami a typical 1 hour tour in helicopter costs $300 why the hell you have to force someone into bankruptcy to do basically exactly the same during a rescue? . I wonder how many people have died when delaying to call for help cause they knew the financial burden they will put themselves and their families thru if they did and thought they could make it out on their own to avoid the bill. Pure evil in my opinion.

    • @tealosophy
      @tealosophy 6 лет назад

      Rolando Perez A search and rescue team involves, the company with which you communicate your emergency, the local emergency services to which your distress is relayed, the paramedics, and or doctors that travel to the location, the expert pilot with multiple hours of training to navigate and land in difficult terrain, the helicopter equipment with emergency apparatus such as defibrillators, oxygen, etc.etc. It's not just a fun ride to see the cityscape, there's a lot of resources needed for this kind of emergencies. If people died or ended up having a worse condition because they avoided calling a SaR just to save money it's their fault, because they ended up loosing their lives or having an even heftier hospital bill, not worth it. As I mentioned previously there are outdoors insurances that cover medevac and SaR, they are not expensive, and everyone that regularly does outdoors activities should have one.

    • @rolandoperez8248
      @rolandoperez8248 6 лет назад

      tealosophy Like I mentioned.... I live in South Florida... I know all about how insurances work and how they have screw us down here during the hurricanes for as far as I can remember. I can only imagine the fine print for a wilderness evacuation insurance. A SaR it involves 3 people in the bird... and someone sitting in a office answering a call does that cost 100k? It does not. There is a thing call math and this does not add up. I am not saying they have to charge $300 bucks for going to rescue someone but do they have to charge 50K? It does not cost that. What are they doing? Using a defibrillator that is available for free at every public library ? placing an Iv bag, splinting for broken leg... For the price they are charging it looks like they are doing open heart surgery on the helicopter. This is not only absurd but immoral. They are taken advantage of people when the they are most vulnerable. And no someone is not at fault when they delay to call for rescue cause they think they can make it out and avoid a bill that will cripple them and their family financially probably for the rest of their life. It is not about saving money cause you want to get the latest iphone... it is about not having a debt that is going to destroy your life. Maybe you make 300k a year most people dont. Most people live paycheck to pay check and are already in debt. You charge someone the amount SaR charges and you basically turn them into a debt slave. Do you think this is just and humane? Have you seen the collection tactics these people employ? Check out this abcnews.go.com/US/sky-rage-bills-debt-lawsuits-follow-helicopter-medevac/story?id=37669153 I own a business. I understand they have to make a profit but one thing is making a profit and another one is fleecing someone for all they got. Do a bit of research of this subject and you will see the profit margins of these companies are insane. Estas defendiendo lo indefendible. Saludos.

    Great story and a good rescue. Glad everything worked out. However, Garmin is Not a replacement for ACR personal locator beacon. Garmin is a great tool to have, but you should also carry a dedicated ACR PLB w/ 6 year battery life and government backed search and rescue system and no subscriptions.

    • @todop
      @todop 7 лет назад

      BigDog just a PLB the brand doesent matter they have the same requirements and specifications ,but mine is ACR(I like the antenna )

    • @bigdog4574
      @bigdog4574 7 лет назад

      Todor---- Correct, brand doesn't matter... my point is that Garmin is not a PLB... it's a 2 way privately owned, subscription based, satellite messaging/GPS system with 100 hr batter life, unless you recharge it. Which is great... but it's not designed to work with stationary and low orbit satellites that our government and military uses. Meaning Garmin first receives your distress info, then relays it to search and rescue. While a 406 Hz PLB like ACR PLB directly communicates with government based search and rescue network... no subscriptions, 6 year battery life, much more reliable. One day I will purchase a Garmin for navigation but I would never leave on a hike without a dedicated PLB also.... backup to a backup .

    • @luistoledo9285
      @luistoledo9285 6 лет назад

      Agreed. A two way messenger like the InReach is awesome for non-emergency communications and as a primary unit for emergency coms absent a phone , radio or other live two-way capability. Any and all of these should be backed up by a PLB appropriate to the environment (marine, backcountry, alpine, etc.) as a last resort. The problem with one-way comes like SPOT and PLBs is that the SAR team is going in blind, which means they will roll as heavy and deep as possible to be ready for anything. But a two-way can be helpful if say, you just need an ambulance at the trail head you’re comfortable self-evacuating to or they need to bring something specific, like anti-venom.

      Another benefit of using the Garmin is that someone can call for help without having to hit the SOS button and summon S&R. The battery life on the Garmin Explorer+ is 3 years. The 100 hours is battery life in tracking mode.

    This could easily be a twisted bowel or an inflammatory disease, like Crohn's disease, in which swelling and scar tissue causes a narrowing of your intestine. adhesions, or scar tissue, from a previous abdominal surgery, colon cancer in which the tumor blocks the intestine. Or severe constipation from Parkinson's disease, which leads to impacted bowel. These types of intestine issue are deadly without hospitalization, hence the life fight.

      I heard in the video by someone that she sustained some kind of trauma but I don't see any visible bleeding, swelling, or deformities. Also I am guessing there's no internal bleeding because she wouldn't have made it through the night without surgery. So it's not clear what the nature of the trauma was. She also looked awake, verbal, and reacted to stimuli. I am starting to doubt she needed to be life flighted out.
