Did a range session and a full round using the release method and drills. I’m getting a lot of fat and thin shots when I try this method.
@@wsujjs are your fundamentals on point? Grip, posture, ball position? You can send video of your swing to me.
I might need to talk to you next season about the draw part. Probably grip position? I can get a fade or rip it straight pretty much anytime. Getting a draw has been a skill I haven't mastered. If I can get that along backspin on the greens, I'd be pretty darn happy. Great stuff brother!
Nice swing. How far are those drives going? Looks slow but sounds crushed.
@@rickrocketts183 looks slow??
@@toddheuglyI guess should have said looks relaxed?
So simple and it works. I killed it after watching your videos in October.
Great stuff Todd! Noticed on the driver set up your wrist is cupped. Is that intentional or your natural set up?

This is old school golf, use the hands, it’s what I learned in the 70’s
@@petervanheest7748 you say that like it’s a knock. Which part of the force vector does the angular speed maximize acceleration?

TODD I PLAYED GOLF TODAY AFTER WORKING ON YOUR TECHNIQUE FOR ABOUT 10 DAYS. I HIT THE BALL BETTER THAN I EVER HAVE. I AM 74 AND I HIT IT BETTER THAN 44. NOT KIDDING. HIT ALL THE FAIRWAYS 9 GREENS AND NEVER JUST FLUBBED A SHOT. TEE BOX WAS SOLID. SO WAS EVERY 3 AND 5 WOOD. I ONLY MESSED UP 4 HOLES. HAD A DOUBLE ON 2 HOLES AND A BOGEY ON 2 HOLES. HAD 2 BIRDIES AND THE REST PAR. I HATE TO BLADDER ON BUT I WAS AMAZED AND I DIDNT FEEL LIKE I WAS HITTING THE BALL HARD AT ALL. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INFORMATION.
@@abs828 this awesome to hear!!! Great stuff I’m proud of you.
@@toddheugly thank you for the reply. one thing that occurred and I'm not sure why but it felt good. i found me pressing my left hip toward the target a little at set up. it may have put a little more weight on my left foot than right, not sure. do you see a problem coming?
Great story, Todd. Thanks for sharing.
coach, I have a question please. Malaska says the club head is outside the hands and face of club looks at ball. on the takeaway my question is does the club face stay like that all the way to the top?
@@abs828 no!
thanks for the quick reply. enjoy your videos very much.
Todd what is the difference in your method and Dan Alton's "swing into the fold" concept?
@@DavidRenegar they are similar to a degree. My hands are more pull up push down on the release
Good video. I think what’s so hard to understand (for me) with this and what you teach is if using the hands/arms, how do you prevent the right hand from rolling over in the downswing if you’re not rotating your upper body through?
@@travisjaggers2114 oh the body moves a lot in both our approaches. It has to roll over post impact.

I have a steep over the top swing. When I don’t think about my swing that’s what my swing does. Any tips on getting more shallow in my downswing? The more I try to fix it the worse it gets.
Glad to see you back, health is everything

Thank you so much for your tuition On the set up i notice that the club is fairly vertical is this important Todd Im subscribed from south Africa
It's not only guy's It's women watching the video as well or are you just misogynistic

Thoughts on single plane?
@@KevinVanic fad because it technically doesn’t exist. Bryson and Moe are both dual plane.
I remember I had a lesson, yes it was on coupon, and he just kept pointing at pictures in a big binder that were cut out from magazines then kept saying you need to "look" like this. That was my first signal that it was going to be bad. So then he told me to make sure I can keep my wrist leading during impact and cock it back as far as I can. Well, doing this and hitting off a mat is a bad combination that wrecked my wrist for a while. Square to Square = Fun and Fun
@@starks1974 hearing stories like that pisses me off!!! I hate bad coaches!
@@starks1974 he told you to keep your wrist bowed or leading to the target??
@@toddheugly yes, bowed as long as I can. It was one of the first lessons I ever had so I had no idea, thought it was some pro secret. Now I know it’s fools gold and I’m at a happy place with my swing but always working to improve.
This is the video you and I were discussing today. Hope you had a successful recording session my friend 😀
Thanks Todd, if possible can you do a video touching on ball position. Cheers
todd, i look like the slapping at it guy. i cant seem to get my arms to smoothly release thru the hitting area. any ideas?
TODD DO YOU PUSH AWAY AT TAKEAWAY OR WHEN COMING DOWN?
@@abs828 coming down
@@toddheugly thank you. i started doing this 3 days ago. your method absolutely works. Played yesterday and I could not believe how good i hit the ball. being new at it I had to keep telling myself to trust it and don't try to do anything excessive. I probably was not doing all of it correctly so I need to learn more. but what I think I did is great. thank you very much.
todd i cant seem to find the spot to put the push away in. i can push away right before I take it back. struggling to figure it out coming down. any thoughts?
todd this is the first videp of yours i have seen. i like what you say. would you be so kind as to say something on your method of takeaway?
Went to the range yesterday and tried this way of swinging. I was shocked how far and well i hit it just focusing on the L to L concept. Im not a bomber at all but as an experiment i hit shots conventional way and they didnt go farther and i could feel resistance and pain in my body.
@@danvesperman5001 that is awesome!!! I’m so glad it helped.
Thank god the shallow the club era seems to be ending.
@@AnangryLibertarian yeah it gives help
This is great content Todd thanks and looks like a great place to play golf where you are. Have you heard of Marcus Edblad (Swedish long drive champion). He has his own channel, he is a big Malaska fan, also a proponent of the trail hand pushing through the ball, arms not body. You, he and Mike M are solidly in the same camp and right on the money Cheers
L TO L DRILL BEEN AROUND SINCE JESUS WAS A GOLFER NOTHING NEW BRO AGREED REALLY GOOD DRILL
@@philmickful L to L isn’t the magic move. Why are you yelling?
I laterally just had a lesson from a local "pro" to fix what is wrong with my golf swing, and "I'm begging you to get away from...trying to turn this down @ 3:53" looks an awful lot like what he is tell me to do. He is stating that in the golf swing hand path, the grip almost needs to swing left to the point where it touches your left pocket, hands forward of the club. Todd, you make it seem so effortless, but easier said than done, comes to mind. I have tried to go out to my net and replicate this, to absolute no avail.
@@jasonriccoboni5931 he is well intended and is trying to help. Unfortunately he is trying to teach you a swing he watched on RUclips and doesn’t completely understand. Have you seen my pivot points video? Of how the hands come down and the club whips into the ball? It is called over the top from the inside. I’m assuming your grip is good, posture and tension levels are correct. Do you have video of your swing? Send me some at toddheugly@pga.com
Thanks for talking about that angle drill, that makes a lot of sense.
The issue is you have people that are watching more advanced videos when the are starting out and not beginner videos. A lot of the videos are for lower handicap player positions to possibly hit the ball farther. I wish people would label better advanced videos compared to beginner
@@scottyb.akamadtownballer7644 this actually applies to players of all ability levels.
Over-swinging is a big one. I've struggled with it for years. Thanks for the excellent video.
Excellent video….
Hi Todd. Just a quick comment and a "Thank you" for you. I played golf today. It was rather cold and I wasn't playing very well. I remembered this video and wondered how this would work on a full swing. It did!! The only swing thought I had was push back, push forward. It worked well and fixed my ball striking. Seems much too easy! Does this make sense to you? Your thoughts? Thanks Todd.
@@davidpopp7552 this is great to hear! Your hands, wrists and arms started working more efficiently and swinging the clubhead! Great stuff.
If possible, could you post a video on ball position and how it relates to the swing you teach?
Classic Malaska !
It’s interesting I never knew Mike taught the corners until we started collaborating. He loved my 11-12-1 for path.
Thanks for the amazing info. Using the hands and arms correctly is also so much better for your body; for those wanting to play pain-free. Your method reminds me of the De La Torre method but your teaching is even easier to understand.
@@pipebliss thank you that means a lot!
I'm sold. Hitting farther than ever. Thank you much! Glad have found your page.
@@jeffshadrick3550 I’m glad you to have you as a subscriber. It’s funny when you are coming up coaching certain things and the haters come along and say that will never work. Then legendary coach like Malaska agrees with you people say, “oh maybe he is smart”.
Seeing is believing
Maybe it’s me but I struggle keeping my fingers on the grip ( right hand) doing L to L. When I do the single wrist twirl ( look cool drill) 1:34 the right wrist snaps around opposite right thigh, left wrist snaps just left of left thigh.... put the hands together on the club and the snap occurring at 4:10 left thigh seems to pull right fingers off the grip as it’s too late for natural right wrist snap. Anyone feel that.?
More good info - need to start with the basics- thanks
I dont understand the 11, 12 and 1 reference. It doesn't help that the Titles obscure the places where you're pointing. I guess its a clock face when viewed from above and 12 is in the direction of the target??
@@newcastleunited51 those are path identifiers a little left, square a little right.
Definitely agree with this lesson. My stance widens the higher the club selection and my swing degrades tremendously because of that. This is a good way to lock in those fundamentals with the higher clubs. 🏆
When golfers start getting in trouble it is either due to poor fundamentals, a concept or using their incorrectly.
