Electro Harmonix CNTR Knob Static expression pedal. €40,must have for Boss Katana or multi FX
I bought the EHX static expression pedal to use with my MK1 Boss Katana 100 as a dedicated volume boost... very inexpensive, simple to use, tough, doesn't need power,..does what I want perfectly...so many other uses too. For €40, it's a must have pedal. @EHX #bosskatana #ehx #guitarfx #guitarpedals

Boss Katana MK1 and MK2? Do you need the Gen 3 or do you spend the money on other things? Discuss!

So the new Boss Katana Gen3 is out...looks good, sounds good but if you have a a MK1 or MK2, do you need to upgrade? In this video I want to look at other options, adding FX, cabs, how to mimic that new "pushed" channel, are the older ones still valid? Buy new or get a used one...so many tone options. What would you do.?

The hum completely vanished ! Cheapest and easiest method by far ! PS I didnt cut the mains ground cable ! I did it on the audio cables input ! The output audio is still grounded ! DS

Great review and proper road test - kudos!✌️👍💜😊 I've a Morely Wah, I've a Behringer Hell Babe - both are very stompable, plus the latter can be modified for even greater range and it's got optical controls, less to wear out or go squeaky or crunchy. I don't gig anymore but wah/volume pedals combined are a pain - so somewhere gathering dust, I've a seperate volume pedal (I used to use it with a Boss auto wah too - not all that great). I used to have a Dunlop Wah as well, it was clunky and wore out - great sounds though. When gigging in the past I like K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple Stupid) ethos, my brain can't cope with too much to do, I'm a mere man😲🙄😀✌️✌️💜

One of the most important aspects of any pickup is the EQ curve. That determines how it reacts to gain, setting aside output. When you combine output with the EQ curve, things can get a lot more extreme. There are few high output pickups that can retain any sort of clarity, including some that I like. I've always been a fan of the DiMarzio Super Distortion and Tone Zone. But I have a lot of experience using them and know how to get more clarity out of them. Pickups like the medium output Air Zone, Norton or PAF Pro are easier to work with because you have much more headroom right out the box. With a high gain amp, you can get all the crunch and scream in the world with more clarity and control. I still believe there is a place for high output pickups, as they do have characteristics that are desirable in some circumstances. But for most players, most of the time, medium output pups like the PAF Pro or Air Zone are the place to be. High output signals from pickups crashing into high gain tones from the amp will clash and make mud.

    • @Fergieguitar
      @Fergieguitar Месяц назад

@@angusorvid8840 that's exactly my thoughts...the PAF Pro is my Dimarzio of choice, it's just so articulate with a lot of gain, I've got a tone zone and I do like it but I do have to be careful or it can be dark, Super Distortion is not one I used much, I had that in a Les Paul copy, powerful, tons of sustain but always needed to control the gain and lows...but it was a dark guitar too.

I have had this amp for years, let me give you info you need to make this amp sound KILLER. 1) Use the low gain input. This help control the over the top gain on this amp and keep the fizzyness in control. 2) Put an EQ in the loop and set as desired. 3) You NEED and attenuator for this amp. This amp will sound flubby and there is some weird low end frequency on this amp that is impossible to cut out that makes it sound like crap, all this kills the Marshall sizzle that you want to hear. With the attenuator hooked up you need to get the master up past 5/6 to get the power tubes cooking. Once that happens that magic starts, all the weird flubby sounds and weird low end frequencies disappear and it sound glorious. I even hit the front end it with a Nux Plexidrive sometimes to get it sounding real nasty, but for classic rock (AC/DC), old Metallica and Iron Maiden, you can't get closer unless you spend a boat load of cash looking for real Plexi's or JMP-1. Oh and i just use a $100 Bugera PS-1, works perfect and doesn't break the bank.

Beautiful video. When I heard you speak, I was trying to imagine your explanation as an Excel table that shows how the 3 variables work together (pickup gain, pickup height, amp gain). I would add a 4th variable : the guitar's volume knob. I have an EBMM Axis Supersport. The bridge pickup was creating unwanted noise when guitar's volume was past 8 or 8.5. I swapped the bridge humbucker with a Holy Diver, which is gentler, so I can play at volume 9 from the guitar. However, with the EBMM Dimarzio gone, I lost the ease of producing harmonics, and screaming bends....I want the Best of Both Worlds, Man !!

Got some katanas in trades, but they went out the door pretty quick. 1. Noise supressor is off by default. not acceptable. 2. No easy way to customise sounds/features, no bluetooth really sucks. 3. I played a katana (into dual V30 arvin cab) next to a 6505+ combo (the crappiest SLO clone) and the valve amp had personality and weight.

That's a few downfalls especially the noise gate not being on the top... I've just EQ d it to be like my amp so adjustments are just venue to venue so works well but..needs a laptop for big adjustments

I run the Green OD on the Katana (Blues Driver) with an Xotic EP Booster in front. Glorious.

I've owned both Mk1 head and 50 combo. Ran the head through a Marshall 1960 with Celestion V30s. The Boss speakers sound better. Sold the head and cab. bought a second 50.

@@9unslin9er Well if you ever need to play guitar through a real speaker again, Jensen sound great with gain, better than Celestion even as a Classic Lead 80 fan.

@@9unslin9er Guitar loudspeaker. The stock speakers are great in the Katana but if you need cabinets in the future, plywood 4X12 for whatever reason. PA and Class D active monitors for modelers are a definite step down from Katana.

In my experience, electronics only use cheaper and cheaper components, revision to revision.

I'm going to stick to my mk1 too, unless will find very cheap deal on mk2, definitely won't be buying gen 3. I was expecting gen 3 to have more 'new' features and maybe slightly newish look to it. Little disappointing Boss tbh.

Nothing wrong with sticking to the 1 and an Airstep. That what I had. But 6 days ago I picked up the Gen 3 with the Bluetooth adapter (already has a GA-FC) anyway I got to do side by side comparison with the 1 and 3 at the store also the Boss reps were there and walked me through all of the changes. There is actually a lot more than people think. The cab is built differently the speaker is mounted different with a cork ring. Then all your effects, stereo output, Bluetooth etc… more features than I can go on about, as far as sound I had someone play while I was twisting knobs cabs side by side and yup definitely a noticeable difference. Not saying anyone needs to rush out and get the G3. But as far as the 100s go in comparison I feel it was worth it. Granted another reason was they took my G1 as trade then gave me 20% off the Katana and BT adapter. Boss also gave me a free 10’ really nice cable. Outside of all that I can say the Gen 3 compared to the 1 is a good upgrade when someone is ready. But nothing wrong with rocking whatever you have.

Paf Pro and Paf Joe is my all time favorite humbuckers. But I think the Paf Pro is to bright as a bridge pickup. It's a little sterile sounding in the bridge and it's hard to pair it with a neck pickup without turning the neck pickup muddy. I think Fred or Mo Joe is better suited for the bridge.

PAF Pro as a bridge pickup is completely overlooked. It's my favorite Dimarzio humbucker--no question.
