Wash hoppin', rock stompin', bushwackin', cat claw catchin' Superstition Mountain Wilderness hiking; informative, sometimes humorous, oft times risky, but always enjoyable trail blazing the well known but sometimes "off the beaten track" excursions through the Western Superstitions near Apache Junction, Arizona. Come along and join the fun.
The Cave at the Fish Creek Bridge
I just took one of the shortest hikes in distance and duration!
I drove 25 miles along the iconic Arizona Highway, AZ88, from the Goldfield Ghost Town at MM 199 to the town of Tortilla Flat at MM 213. My trip did not stop there, however. I continued along AZ88 until the paved road morphed into a dirt road near MM 219. From there i drove past the Tortilla Trailhead, MM 221, to the Fish Creek Overlook at MM 222. Then, the real fun began; a 1.50-to-2.00-mile scenic drive to the Fish Creek Bridge, and "THE CAVE"!
I had not been here since September 2024, when the road was re=opened after major re-construction. I took a hike down in the creek towards the cave, but the foliage was too thick so I...

Throne to Saddle Hike Back
Просмотров 397 часов назад
As promised, tis is the second and final part of my Fragile Arch Trail hike. The camera audio was working, so no musical background. There seemed to be more than one trail, or it could be that my route-finding skills are dwindling. Even though I occasionally bushwhack, I always seem to find my way back. Thank you, Jesus! My hike back was much faster than the hike to the saddle. I only bushwhack...

Arizona - Tonto National Forest - Tortilla Flat - Fragile Arch Trail Nov. 11, 2024 I had hiked this trail several times. My last hike was on September 27, 2023. On today's hike, it was my intention to check for fire damage from a recent fire. The fire caused the closing of many trails. Although I was familiar with the route of this trail, today was different. Lack of trail maintenance was evide...

I had posted a video of the SiphonFire damage assessment a few days ago. It only detailed one section of the hike - the three-mile Black Mesa. I went into great detail as to where and when this fire took place. This visual hike takes you through the entire counterclockwise loop hike. Sadly, the fire damage was immense. The Western Superstition Wilderness has offered many, many hikes to various ...

October 3, 2024. Apache Junction, AZ - Goldfield Mts., Bulldog Canyon On September 30, 2024,, I took a hike from the Wolverine T.H. along Forest Road 1356. I wanted to hike Trail 308 to the junction with Trail 307. I got to that junction, but I did not find the Trail 307 route. So, I took the dirt road up to the ridge. I noticed a trail heading north, but I did not have the time or stamina to c...

Gold Canyon, AZ I parked the car at Cloudview Ave. West, bushwhacked to a trail, then hiked into the Hieroglyphic Canyon. I had a stare down with a deer and met a few hikers along the way. The canyon trail was rough in spots. After a while I lost track of the trail and hiked back. Overall, it was a good hike. Great bushwhacking hike Phil. Awesome, rugged country, do you encounter many snakes? 🙄
I saw no snakes today. Thank you for viewing and offering your comment.
Thanks for sharing the video of your hike Phil. You have access to some rugged but beautiful country.
Thank you for watching and taking time to comment.
Hi Phil. We always appreciate your videos of our “neighborhood” Maybe we will meet in person one day. We are leaving our trailer in AJ soon for extended travel in Mexico. All the best 👍🏻
Thank you for the kind words. I do enjoy perusing our "neighborhood". I am sure I would like to have a hike with you.
. . . and, have a safe journey!
@@phillivingston8237 I was a yacht captain and technician before retiring. I worked in Mexico at the Acapulco Yacht Club and traveled the coast. It was an amazing career full of adventure travelling west and east coasts. Our travels there now are very low key, we are staying in lesser tourist areas until next mid March when we return to AJ. Living the dream while we can, time is so fleeting. Stay healthy Phil, it is our most valuable investment.
A camera stabilizer would be a good investment and improvement for your videos
You're absolutely correct. I admit I'm not a professional. I need a gopro, but I keep losing them.
Un cordial saludo desde Medellín Colombia
Good singin'!
Thanks.
👍
Weather looks like it has begun to be more bearable Phil keep it up...let me know when you start a guide service wife and I in our 60s but active
I'm 78 years old and try to do early morning hikes. The Superstitions are off-limits for at least another three weeks, so I have been hiking in the Goldfields. Thank you for watching.
_Hieroglyphic Canyon is a truly remarkable archaeological site. Your video offer a fascinating glimpse into the rich history and cultural significance of this ancient civilization. The quality of your footage and the depth of your knowledge are commendable. Thank you for sharing such a valuable resource with the world._
I appreciate your comments and thank you for following me along the trail.
Probably be a good idea to identify the state Fish Creek is located.
that " AZ88 " might be worth a google
ARIZONA - Woodbury Fire, AZ88, Reavis Ranch, and Road 212 are some of the clues. Thank you for the comment. I appreciate your idea. I'll try to be more specific in the future.
It’s past Apache Junction AZ, go to Tortilla Flats road is very narrow and slow going. It just reopened
Thanks Phil.
You're welcome. It was an enjoyable exploration.
Thanks!
Thanks for part 2 I am looking forward to a lot of fall hiking. I also have a really good inflatable kayak I use a lot. I’m located in AJ. Hence the nickname Kerry From AJ.
Thanks Phil. This was an informative helpful video.
You're welcome. Thank you for watching..
Hello, sr. I really like your videos, and i was wondering if you would accept a new camera as a donation.
2019?
The fire was Friday, early evening, July 19, 2024. I took the video the next day. TY
Oops! I see what you mean. 2024 not 2019. I edited my narrative. Thanks for the keen eye.
Hi Phil, thanks for the video. When did this fire happen? I know I saw smoke up that way recently, so maybe that was it.
Thanks Phil.
Hi Phil. Just wanted to say thanks for your hiking videos. We do a lot of hiking in the area and the last couple years kayaking with our inflatable kayak. Thanks again, All the best
Thanks for watching. I enjoy hiking and sharing my adventures.
Congratulations
👍😍
I found it through you . 🤔🎯👍
You found the Monocle Arch?
@@phillivingston8237 well yes , through you on RUclips. 🤔
Lots of hiking you be safe out there 🤙
Keep it up Phil you're doing good I do have a question though when would you say it's too bad to hike anymore due to heat and lack of water?
Early morning hikes In the Superstition. No long hikes when the temperatures reach the mid 90s.. I head for the Sierra Anchas and Four Peaks to avoid the heat. Thank you for your comments.
@@phillivingston8237 You are more tolerant of heat than I. I don't like to hike if the temp is much more than 70f, but I live in Western Washington. Water is not a problem here.
Keep at it Phil
Thank you. I hope some day I will reach the connector Trail from the Cline trailhead. Cattle keep making false trails . Thanks for the encouraging words.
Nice
Thank you. The creek is next to the trailhead, where the cabin used to be.
I shall.
You didn't like that bucket there did you? Looked like an angry kick lol
Just trying to get it airborne.
Hey Phil have you gone the dutchmans trail around to Labarge and Charlabois spring?
Yes I have. It's along the Whisky Springs loop hike. About 17 miles. Thank you for viewing this video and for your comment.
Where you looking east at first towards black top Mesa?
Yes, I believe so.
Hi Phil, congratulations on making it out there. I'm sure it was well worth it. Wow, that was a big line of people going up the slope there. In addition to the arch, that area around there is really beautiful, so I can see why it would be popular.
Thank you for viewing and for your comment. There is a standing rule to limit hiking groups to 15. Three groups of half that size passed us as we were hiking back. It was well worth the effort.
Nothing
Rough walking country.
Yes, it was somewhat challenging. Loose shale and slope made it interesting. The reward was worth it.
Phil, I gave you a "Thumbs Up" but it doesn't show up! Still reads "0". BTSOOM.
I just saw the "0" change to "1". Maybe that's you. Thank you for your interest.
Absolutely gorgeous scenery my friend!
Thank you.
*_Nice hike through strange rock formations, I really enjoyed it. Of course, thumbs up :) Best regards from Germany, Angela_*
Thank you Angela!.
Love the Supes. Appreciate your time and efforts. Stay safe.
Than k you so much,
Nice little Diddy and that's a nice little journey PHIL
Thank you.
Not bad Phil and my condolences on your loss of family as all of mine are long gone...as for that loop im not finding it but I've looked and looked some how I've missed it. I watch all of your videos in the superstitions that I come across....I am just concerned as I have not hikes these trails other than second water to Boulder canyon and then Boulder canyon to the north terminus of calvary trail 239 but I want to go from north dutchmans trail to Marsh Valley I can't go the way I know because I will have a pack donkey and there is no way he will be able do deal with Boulder canyon some of those crossings are too much hell we are both up there in age so just two questions one there is a trail that goes through what is labeled as bull pass that goes through on the north side of blacktop Mesa but there is a steep section is that a good route over to marsh valley in Labarge canyon or would trail that goes south of black top Mesa over there to marsh valley a better route and is there or have you ever seen water at white rock spring g because if I hit labarge canyon and head south to Charlebois spring it's about a mile and a half to the south when the calvary trail is north the way I want to go...I can't let my hiking buddy go without water please advise...I hope to meet you one day I'm dying to say Mr. Livingston I presume
Ha! Ha! Yes, The Bull Pass trail Goes to Marsh Velley. The Bull Pass also gives access to Balck Top Mt. Nice views of the Weaver's Needle. There are also some petroglyphs. I suggest you access the website HikeArizona ,com. they have directions for all the trails in the Superstitions and other wilderness areas. Also, the book "hikers Guide to the Western Superstition Wilderness" authored by Carlson and Stewart. Happy hunting! . . and, my brother's name is David.
@@phillivingston8237 thanks Phil I'm going to get right on those sources of information again my condolences on your loss happy trails my friend ...Eric
Hey Phil looking good I was wondering though how far do you hike in a day? What I'm wanting to do is hike the Dutchman trail 104 to bull run and on to White rock Spring but I kinda concerned with getting lost if the trail isn't marked well so if you're out there I mean youre tuff as nails id sure be beholding to you if you could do some reconnaissance on that for me thanks Eric Cripe
You may be referring to the Dutchman's Whiskey Springs Loop. It's about a 17-mile hike. I have done it more than once. I'm sure I posted a video. I have two other RUclips accounts that are dormant, but still available for viewing. happy Trails! Thanks for watching.
Beautiful scenery but I think I saw the Lost Dutchman standing on a boulder watching....
Ha! Ha! There is a rock formation at the top of the falls that resembles a man's profile. thanks for the comment and thank you for watching.
Beautiful spot!! Thanks for the adventure 😎
You're welcome. It was a nice hike with a fantastic destination.
Hi Phil, it's really neat to see that. Hopefully the flowing water lasts for awhile with more rain in the forecast.
Yes, I think the forecast calls for more rain next week. Than you for your comment.
Did you do the Jeep Wave? Couldn't tell if it was a Wrangler, and I know the Liberty, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, etc. is usually excluded from the custom, but still curios.
I drive 1 2008 Jeep Liberty, high clearance, 4-wheel drive. I can drive on most dirt roads in the area. Thank you. Have a great 2024.
Thanks 👍
You're welcome.
Great capture of this beautiful and amazing scenery of the place around thanks for sharing
You get a lot more sun than I like. I don't handle heat very well.
I need to get my hiking done in the winter. Summer is a bummer.

Yes, it was unfortunate. Too late to correct it.
Where is that place at. I'd like to go there.
Black Glass Canyon - Goldfield Mountains - Apache Junction , AZ - Willow Springs Trailhead = Near mm204 along the Apache Trail Highway 88.
I agree with Jim you should have someone with you in a rugged area like that . Be safe in you adventures .
Thank you for taking us with you. 😊
