Rhino Spotting: Khama Rhino Sanctuary
Next up on the Botswana series is our trip to the Khama Rhino Sanctuary.
The Khama Rhino Sanctuary is a 8,585 hectare reserve located in central Botswana, created to protect rhinos while providing an ideal environment for other wildlife to thrive. It is a 5 hour drive from Maun. Established in 1992, it has become a haven for both black and white rhinos. The sanctuary's setting-rolling bush with interspersed pans and grasslands-offers a perfect habitat for not just rhinos, but also common game such as zebras, impala, springbok, steenbok, duikers and wildebeest.
During our visit, we stayed at the Mokongwa Campsite within the sanctuary, a comfortable and well-equipped space. Each of the 18 ca...

Botswana Stories : A Helicopter Ride Over the Okavango Delta
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.21 день назад
My first stop in an epic journey across Botswana is an open-doors helicopter ride over the iconic Okavango Delta. The Delta is legendary-an oasis in the heart of the Kalahari Desert created by seasonal rains flowing from the Angolan Highlands over a thousand kilometers away. This unique river ecosystem is one of the few in the world that doesn’t reach the ocean, instead nourishing the earth and...

This over-landing adventure, almost a month long, had some of the most exciting, up-close and intense wildlife experiences of my...

This trip was a warm-up before an upcoming adventure to Botswana, but little did I know that it would turn into one of the mos...

In this video, I’ll share 11 learnings and insights from my journey that may help you, along with some key watch-outs. Wildlife and nature photography contests are highly subjective, with judges’ preferences influencing which images get selected. Th...

Top Reasons I Choose A Zoom Lens For Capturing Wildlife
Просмотров 6983 месяца назад
I've used telephoto zoom lenses for wildlife photography for about 18 years. But ever since I started wildlife photography back in 2005, I’ve dreamt of those big prime lenses-the kind you see professional photographers carrying around. I thought that getting one would instantly elevate my photography to the next level. But now that I’m finally in a position to afford one, I’ve realized that it ...
Spiny-tailed lizards : a falcon’s favourite meal
Просмотров 8833 месяца назад
In this video, I'll take you to a place that will never make it onto any travel, wildlife or nature photography list, but it's still my favourite place in the world - the Gaushala. The reason I love coming here - the abundance of spiny tailed lizards. So large is its number, that the entire landscape, when observed from above, appears to be dotted with white spots - the sand that this animal ha...

One memorable experience on this trip was witnessing the bioluminescent fungi...

Wolves at Kadbanwadi, near Pune
Просмотров 7 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Join me on an early morning trip from Pune to Kadbanwadi to look for the elusive Indian wolf. Waking up at 2 a.m. and driving for three hours was just the beginning of this journey. Kadbanwadi, a semi-arid grassland typical of the Deccan Plateau, may seem barren at first glance, but it teems with life when we look closely. Despite my tempered expectations, having not seen a wolf since 2012, thi...
Desert foxes and blackbucks at Tal Chhapar

Join me on my visit to Tal Chhapar in April 2024, where my initial goal was to photograph blackbucks. However, as nature often does, Tal Chhapar had its own plans, and I spent much of my time observing the antics of desert fox pups at a den. I’ve been photographing desert fox pups since 2012, and this is by far the boldest litter of pups I’ve seen. During their two months, pups depend entirely ...

Join me on a wildlife photography expedition to Tanjung Puting National Park, Indonesia, to photograph Bornean Orangutans. I spent time with orangutans at rewilding camps in Tanjung Puting. This trip was one of the best wildlife photography experiences I've had, even though it was very...
I have seen wolf once at my hometown Vasai fort at Mumbai.
Voiceover is deep, meaningful and ❤️
Thank you so much!!
I have had several sightings of tiger, two sightings of leopard and one sighting of hyena. Would like to see wolves once.
Free ranging dogs or feral dogs also called stray dogs are greatest threats to Indian Wolves in particular and wildlife in general.
Agree 100% - not just to wolves, but threat to wildlife across habitats in India. It's a lot more apparent in grasslands.
Great Video!! Thanks for sharing! Seeing Indian Wolves in wild is my goal!❤
THIS IS HEAVENNNNNNNNN
Indeed :)
Beautiful work, Subscribed from another wild canid lover 😍😍

Sir is it possible to do macro with Mobile cameras?
So, it is possible to do macro photography with a smartphone camera : I had done a trip to Goa in 2012 with just a Nokia 1020, and quite liked the results. It is important to keep in mind that we're mostly talking macro - scapes, and not necessarily close-ups. Smartphones don't come with the same kind of magnification that macro lenses come with, but I love the macro scapes that they produce.
Very useful video. Thank you.
thank you :)
The tips shared are useful, but it feels a bit too scripted, which made it hard to stay fully engaged....a natural flow could help keep viewers' attention throughout. Hope you take this as constructive feedback!
Thank you, good feedback 🙏
Very happy to see my village through your lens. We would love to put some extra efforts to preserve this habitat if you keep making such amazing videos 😊
Thank you so much! I hope to make more such videos too!
Super interesting and helpful, Anuroop! All the best!
Thanks Santosh! Glad you found it useful :)
You deserve more views brother 🫂

6:31 I want this type of forest wooden home in the forest or side of forest to watch beautiful sunrises, sunsets, waterfalls, wildlife beauty. But in the city, it's not possible. ❤ 14:24 Finally you got a chance to encounter Malabar Pit Viper, all your journey was not complete until this, so God gave you the opportunity. Great, I enjoyed the photographies. The Best one was 2:25 PURPLE TREE CRAB. IT WAS AWESOME. 💜
Thank you so much for such detailed feedback! Glad you liked the video. The purple crab was also one of my favourite moments while shooting
New subscriber from pune :-) Few ques 1) Do we need to book an appointment for a guide at Chinkara Vanparyatan Prakalp? 2) What are usual timings this place/drive is open? 3) I assume the "safari" is best with a local guide, right ?
@@RajaramSethuraman Thanks. The safaris can be booked here - grasslandsafari.org/ The timings are 6-9 in the morning, and 3-6 in the evening. This route allows a max of six cars for each session . The safari booking comes with a guide that is allocated. I've also gone with an additional local guide a couple of times, but the guides who come with the safari booking are quite good.
Very interesting and very well explained. Thank you!!!
Thanks!
Excellent visuals and travel narrative of your finding the Grey Wolf.Yes, habitat bc and prey base is decreasing fast...at times feel helpless but such videos and your dedication gives some hope .Do plan a trip to Velavadar grassland in Gujarat.Onky place of about 2000 plus black buck and large pack of Wolf living in a prestine habitat.Wevakso need some clear video footages for our presentation. All the best .Yash, Ecocare Foundation.
Thank you!
Did you get any raptor for which people visit Talchappar?
yes - in this particular trip - a lot of laggars. Also saw a Griffon Vulture and a Steppe Eagle. The white eyed buzzards, Black-shouldered kites and usual residents were there too. This was in summer, so most migrants had returned
Thanks Anuroop, I really enjoyed your thoughts, having a smaller zoom lens, I will practice some of your tips with my smaller lens and will not fell jaleaous for the folks with these really big beasts. Cheers
Thanks for stopping by , Martin! Glad you found it useful :)
Amazing! Beautifully captured and excellent storytelling. Glad to see that the pups have survived and are doing well.
Thank you :) - yes, so happy to see the pups doing well :)
👌
Thanks Anil!
Super storytelling buddy. I relived the entire experience through your vid.
Thanks to your patient driving and tips all along!
Awesome stuff, Roofy, as always! Keep going!
Macha! good to hear from you. Thank you :)
Photo contests and social media have made nature photography another competitive sport and I am of the opinion photo contests should anonymise the winners and only exhibit the winning images. That may limit the madness for name and fame a tad bit at least! Keeping the need for these contests aside, whatever you have said here makes perfect sense.
@@robovana thank you. happy some of this resonated with you. I agree with you on contests and social media taking photography to a level of competitive sport - something I didn't enjoy at all. Took me some realisation along the lines of photography being a way for me to express my fondness for nature, and putting that ahead of the demands of social media, or contests, helped me enjoy nature photography again.
Great advice bud. I'm not one for contests, but I'm sharing this vid with people just so they understand how to cultivate a healthy mindset about competitions.
Thanks! I am glad some of this resonates with you.
Excellent video footages of grassland wildlife, specially Sandas.Well done.Enjoyed the Lagger falcon visuals as they are getting rare in other parts and call of our Tittar...Thanks for sharing ,all the best .Yash, Ecocare foundation,USA

Guys your video came up in my feed. I have extensively travelled in Botswana and i live in South Africa. Any questions please get un touch. Happy to help anyway i can. Botswana is awesome
Thank you! That is super kind of you, Amol. Would you know anything about the permits needed for drones and the kind of two-way radios we're allowed to carry in Botswana?
I thought I had replied but it's gone missing. As a rule drones are not allowed in national parks. I have observed that it does affect animal behaviour too so I have never pursued trying to get permission for one. Zartek do a walkie talkie but I think they need a license in Botswana. You can get an amateur version in South Africa. The claimed line of sight range is 3-5km but in practice it's more like 1km given the landscape and habitat with trees etc
@@amolkarnik9709 thanks - yeah, so we're leaving our drones behind. Even outside of flying in Protected Areas, I think taking a drone to Botswana requires permits + visiting a local police station to submit finger prints, etc. We haven't budgeted time for that, maybe the next time.
Safe travels and good luck. Hope you get to make images to your hearts content. Look forward to the stories from this trip.
@@K15h4n04 thanks KC! I'll be making one trip to Bangalore before I leave, let's catch up if we can.
Hi Anuroop - Great footage - Thanks for sharing! I am German and will be in Tal Chhapar, in order to photograph raptors from late Sept to early Oct, perhaps see you out there somewhere! Best Frank
thanks for the kind words, Frank! Wish you the very best for Chhapar :). I am traveling to Botswana in that exact same period, so won't be in Chhapar then. But in case you have some questions on Chhapar, do write to me at anuroop.krishnan@gmail.com - and I'll help out as much as I can!
