Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 - AUTO DIDAKT Design Review
A Ferrari is a Ferrari is a Ferrari is a Ferrari?
Well, not quite. Certainly not, if the singular Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 is anything to go by.
Where other Ferrari designs are flamboyant and extrovert, the 2+2's is calm and sober.
Get acquainted with the modernist Ferrari in all its glory in the video.

There's good design. And then there's romantic design. The latter category, with respect to car design, is essentially an Italian domain - as exemplified by the Maserati Quattroporte, the final romantic saloon. How does one design romance? Porsche 928 - AUTO DIDAKT Design Review

The Porsche 928 failed miserably at its main objective: replacing the 911. Yet it succeeded brilliantly at establishing a new standard for modernist sports car design. Fine out why the Neunachtundzwanzig is a design marvel after all, on par with the best of the best, courtesy of the usual AUTO DIDAKT analysis. #porsche #porsche928 #styleporsche #sportscar #cardesign #carculture #design #autodidakt
Mercedes W 124 - AUTO DIDAKT Design Review

There was a time when car design was intentionally rational. It was called the '80s. This especially applied to Mercedes-Benz, where nothing was ever done without a compelling reason. In this video, one of the most reasonable of Mercedes-Benz designs receives the thorough AUTO DIDAKT analysis. #mercedesbenz #mercedesw124 #mercedeseclass #cardesign #carculture #germandesign #autodidakt
I’ve been driving a 1972 Targa MFI for nearly 25 years - even as a daily driver at times. But always at least 3 days a week - Fri-Sun. Last week I look delivery of a ‘96 993 with 27K miles on the ODO. And I simply cannot believe how advanced and refined it is over my ‘72. And yet it’s still CLEARLY a 911!
To date after owning six various Porsches one being a 928 it still is on top as one of my favourite cars for numerous reasons.
Mine enjoyed for 472k miles and going...yes, an engineering milestone.1991 300e M103
Great video, thanks a lot
I won't say it is a beautiful car, but it is an interesting one, and one I'd rather would have attributed to Bertone than to Pininfarina. It has great proportions, a lovely interior and the stylistic juxtapositions are not ridiculously radical as the very recent Jag Zero Zero is compared to its predecessors.... It is different and yet fits perfectly in the Ferrari stable.
An interesting perspective on an unusual design. I don't know if it was a regulatory thing but the fixed headlamps in the front rather ruin the front end for me. But the profile and rear 3/4 view are still quite striking
Anodised alloy...but not just any old quality. Quality to last as its owner might have the car for life. Today I do not agree with modern cars with the recycling idea. Long life should be the criteria.
Nicely put!
oh how dandy!
Elegant and beautifull
Tolles Video über ein tolles Auto, gefilmt an einer nicht minder tollen Location (Frankfurt - Jahrhunderthalle)! Wo sind die Fahrsequenzen entstanden, Feldberg/Taunus?
Exakt.
Great video as always, Cristopher. I would have liked a bit of V12, to be honest 😉
Fair enough.
This wonderful example should have been flatted off, wet sanded and polished after its respray; so much orange peel visible! Ferrari had them painted immaculately. Other than that, it’s a wonderful film. Thank you 😊
Yes, it's hard not to notice the orange peel. Other than that it's lovely.

I've Always been a fan of this model of Porsche. Its only been recently that I started to appreciate the 911 body style. I really like the 924, 928 and 944 body styles!
Another timeless and perfect video by Auto Didakt. I love this channel because these videos have no expiration date. I just watched today again the video about the Mercedes W124 and the Quattroporte fifth generation video and I’m sure I can watch it 10 years from now and will not loose any of its glory. Well done and I’m glad channels like these exists. Thank you Christopher, Malte and the whole team at Auto Didakt.
Thanks for your attention and kind words.
It's a gorgeous sedan, with a beautiful exhaust note. If it wasn't for its reputation for unreliability, it would've been a tour de force hallmark automobile for Maserati. Even its foibles could have been charming if it wasn't for the exorbitant repair costs. But it was, and is, a great design. Sprezzatura indeed.
I've been obsessed with the 928 since it was new. Besides its movie star credentials, it was the right design at the right time. Extremely futuristic and sexy. It made the continuation of the 911 possible because suddenly, the purists were created, and they were pissed. Its design has aged beautifully, and is still a sexy GT beast today. And I still want one as much as I did when I was a car crazy teenager.
I think during this time in Italy, showing ones wealth was wisely not blatant. I've always loved this design, as well ass the 400, 400A, and 412. All beautiful and truly elegant. I would like to see the 550 Maranello get the Auto Didakt treatment in the future. I'm very glad I've found your channel. It's informative, and has a dry sense of humor I really appreciate. Well done, and I'm a new subscriber. You've chosen some of my favorite cars to film already. I am looking forward to future videos.
Thank you. Time, logistics and availability of cars are limiting factors, but we have every intention of going into '25, full steam ahead.
Thank you for another very high quality video. May I perhaps suggest the SAAB 900 Turbo or the Audi quattro (UR) for your next? If you fancy crossing the channel the late Jaguar XJS 4.0/6.0!
What I miss in the video is mention of Ferrari 365 GTC/4 ("il Gobbone"), which briefly preceded 365 GT4 2+2. From this very model comes the slightly modified engine with characteristic side mounted carburettors (Tipo F101, despite itself being development of Tipo 251 used in 365 GTB/4), the elongated chassis (despite itself being further development of the one used in 365 GT 2+2) and also the dasboard (where interestingly 365 GTC/4 completely avoided use of any wood decors to emphasize its overall modernity, but 365 GT4 2+2 has brought them back).
The links to the GTC/4 could have been pointed out, yes. But for the sake of clarity, the choice was made to focus on related designs by Fioravanti only in this instance. Sappino's GTC/4 would evidently be deserving of a dedicated video, at some point.
Amazing video on an excellent gran turismo Ferrari ❤
I know a lot of people don’t like this car, but for me, it is the most beautiful and desirable car they ever made
Yeah, its just soooo f’ing cool. Utterly timeless gorgeousness.
Yes from a time when Ferraris were beautiful, elegant and tasteful, unlike today's somewhat vulgar offerings IMHO
I wouldn't say it's the most beautiful, but it is stunning
Another fantastic video of one of my favourite Ferrari’s. Thank you.
I like the minimalist balanced design. Love the rear lights but then I'm biased as I drive an Alfa Brera. Midnight blue with crema interior is a classic combination. A timeless classic.
It took a while but it was worth waiting, having my best preferred Ferrari (512BB and GTO following) reviewed, one of the least obvious Ferraris ever. I suppose having been born in the golden era of the automotive also helps. Its exuberance lacking, simple lines combined with subtle detailing and gracious proportions might be a precursor of that modern concept, the silent luxury. Magnificent from every angle. Thank you AutoDidakt for this video. Classy as always.
thank you.
Perfection, as always!
Perfect video!
Been a while yes a new video
Don't stone me, but I like the twin rear lights of the 400 a bit more. Still together with the 250 GTE 2+2, and the 456 my favourite Ferrari.
I’m with you - the trio lights and knock-off wheels, although gorgeous, didn’t fit with the sharper lines of the body. However, the door handles somehow did.
Fair enough. It's the 400's front spoiler and more massive-looking wheels that don't do the basic shape any favours - the rear lights are just different and don't spoil a thing. (Not even the 412's body-coloured bumpers or ruined boot outline would be good enough a reason for stoning, metaphorical or otherwise. It's car design we're dealing with here, rather than the fate of humanity.)
@AutoDidaktFilms The trio lights are definitely a cost saving measure, being generic units, as rear lights are prohibitively expensive to design and bring into production for low volume manufacturers. Completely concur on the other details you brought up on the 400 and 412. The trio lights don't do the simplicity of the 365 GTC, a car whose unassuming lines I love, but not the fussy rear view.
@@marcusott2973 Any shared component is the result of cost saving measures. The crucial aspect being whether they grate or cohere.
@AutoDidaktFilms MG RV8. The beautiful taillights cost far more than the redesign of the chassis. Definitely to the detriment of the whole project.
Not a bad angle can be found on the 993.
Once upon a time I was invited to a castle named Schaubeck where Harm Lagaay introduced to a small crowd of guests the brand new 993 explaining how it was designed based on the highlights of the iconic form going even back to the 356. I never forget …(he explained that the highlights = reflections of the form were defining guides to shape…)
De 993 porsche is de beste porsche ooit gemaakt.
Great video. I own a 1982 928S here in Spain - the 4.7L 300bhp version with a 5-speed manual. I have often wondered what, exactly, the 928 was supposed to be. Often referred to as a "touring coupe," it seems too low, too cramped, and too focused to be compared with circa 1980 touring coupes like the XJ-S, Mercedes-Benz SEC, and BMW 633csi. Any of those would be a far better choice for a wealthy dentist to commute to work in. No, the 928 seems more... purposeful. A little angrier. Not as raw as a contemporary 911 was, but a helluva lot more serious than an XJ-S... So what was it? Who was it supposed to cater to? Maybe one way to answer that is to think about what, at the time, was kind of... similar. And the closest thing that comes to mind is something like the Aston Martin "Oscar India." That car wasn't a sports car either, or a luxury tourer. It was more of... a European muscle car, or maybe even a "super car." After all, 150+ mph cars weren't common in the late 1970's and early 1980's. The 928 wasn't MILES off the power output or pace of something like a 512bbi. Maybe Porsche just needed to market it differently... Either way, it's a great motorcar. Someone at Porsche must have loved it, because they kept building and improving it for 17 years, despite never selling more than about 5000 of them in any one of those trips around the sun. It's makes them fairly rare today, and hen's teeth compared to something like a G-body 911.
So glad you mentioned the interior. I think it’s a masterpiece of design.
Well, it is.
I had an S4, can still hear the sound of it in my head. One of the great memories in driving for me. That and the feel of the Borg Warner box in the Sierra Cosworth, the smoothness of a v12 jag xj40 and the feeling of driving a Lancia Delta Integrale as hard as my limited driving ability would allow.
I own a 82 and 89s4. I still get asked at stoplights, "What is it"?
Great job!
Impeccable taste in clothes visable in every video.
It's an attempt at paying tribute to each subject matter. Thank you.
Excellent video, although the 964 remains my favourite 911 design
Excellent video on this magnificent automobile 🇮🇹😍👌
Injust discovered this channel, amazing! Subscribed of course. W124 Mopf 1 is the best looking of them all 🤩👍
Agreed.
love it
great video
The front fenders are just fantastic. If the design team had carried those styling cue to the rear quarter panels, the 928 would still be in production today. As it is, those slabby straight quarter panels makes the car look meh, and in my opinion, the real reason the 928 failed. To most people I've talked to in my 20+ years of 928 ownership, the car is not attractive because of the bulbous, AMC Pacer-like shape behind the doors. The second reason it failed is its horrible, bland automatic transmission - how completely and totally uninspiring the automatics are to drive.
with the gated transmission in this pre-facelift Quattroporte V, there is a chance to Manual swap on this???!!!
I own 2, very nice automobiles.
Happy to see you chose Frankfurt as the backdrop to your take on the 993, the home of my very own Turbo.
This is a brilliant channel! Thank you! Just gor the Maserati video to watch. Looking forward to more content!
Thank you.
