Nice version and banjo style.
March 2024 - I am missing your deft touch with great Irish music 😉😉
I love your arrangement of this incredibly beautiful song. It's the perfect sit around the campfire with friends song. Your added frills, lead-ins, walk-downs, etc. really make it so much fun to listen to. I have been trying to learn to finger pick it for awhile with no success. Watching Bill Staines music videos hasn't helped me since he is left handed. Even the picking pattern I think is tricky (is it 3 notes or 4?). Any chance you could tab out your picking pattern and the chords?
A great man 👏
The best I've heard latley... thank you 👏
Another fine song Rory, I would like to make a request for a couple of songs your father sang that really helped me over a low point a number of years ago when, One was called The Land I Love so Well, and the other was Come by the Hills, if you can fit them in I am sure there are many people besides myself who would appreciate them . Thank You
Nice!
excellent Rory, Merry Xmas Cheers
Rory, a safe and happy Christmas to you and yours, and a wonderful new year. May there be many more of each, yet to come.
Merry christmass from Mexico Mr Makem, God bless you!
Magic
Another great song from the Rory Makem eclectic song collection!
Loved it. Fantastic sad song. Thanks.
I would love it to hear you mine some of the American folk songs rescued by the New Lost City Ramblers(such as Freight Train). I have always felt that the CB&TM and the NLCRs were the very best folk song groups of the '60s. Rory, you combine the vocal power of your dad with the instrumental virtuosity of Mike Seeger. It's just a thought from a guy with a ton of Makem/Clancy and New Lost City Ramblers albums. Those are the songs I sing!
Your Father's Son!
Well Done...Memories are precious. Sheldon Firem
Where can I get the chords to this song, can’t find them anywhere and I’d love to play it?
I can hear your dad singing this song Well done, Cheers
Rory, it becomes SO much more a marching song, when sung like that, compared to your Da's version. I almost started marching around the room, just from listening to you. 😉 BTW, I had thought perhaps you would do something from Shane and the Pogues, as his funeral was today (the 8th).
It would go well with a bodhran!
Cheers from México!
Excellent!
Great man. Beautitful song ... congrats
Great job on a great tune!
Wait! Have I wandered into a classic country music channel by mistake? I guess, once you went to the Opry, it became part of you forever. Now, I have to try to get that tune out of my head. I'm going to be humming this for DAYS! Thanks a LOT, Rory! Heh heh... 😉
I hope I can watch you perform live sometime if I go to Ireland. Just got my spotify 2023 wrapped, im apparently the 0,01% biggest fan of irish folk, not that popular here in Sweden.
He is still a friend of mine! Rory only gets better & better !
What a way to begin the Christmas/Holiday season! Thanks, Rory!!!
Thanx 🥰
Cheers from Mexico!
Thanks, Rory! For SOME reason, the counter won't let me put a thumb up on this video. It highlights the icon, but the counter doesn't move up. Plus, it's still showing zero likes, more than an hour after the video was put up. It should have at LEAST a couple more. It may be time to get after RUclips to fix thier system, so you get credit for all the views and likes.
You'd better watch it. People will start thinking you're from North America. 😉 Thanks for another fine time, Rory!
Brilliant song and performance. You are creating a great legacy of music on this platform.
Stirring stuff! Would be great to hear your rendition of O'Donnell Abu sometime 😄
Another fine song and rendition. I know nothing about the guitar but your accompaniments seem to be quite complex and unique. Perhaps you could make a vlog about how you create them from the basic chords.
Nice counyry song, good performance brada, enjoying very much
It's interesting that I keep hearing Brazos pronounced "BRAH-zess." I lived near Dallas, many (over 50) years ago. Everyone, at the time, pronounced it like the Mexican Spanish pronunciation, "BRAH-zohss," just without the rolled R.
Great version Rory, I remember a short film on youtube of your granny singing this song.
Yeah great stuff, I'm an English butcherer of Irish songs (I'm 1/4 Irish, but it's an important 1/4), your Dad and Liam are my heroes of folk, keep doing it my mate, it's great to see you play
More of these lovely slow ballads please..........!
Beautiful Rory..A lovely ballad written by your Dad.
I remember listening to your dad singing this on my mom's records growing up 😄😄😄😄😄. I have lots of good memories of listening to The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem thanks to my mom's record collection of theirs. She even has some records that are from Ireland and most of hers are 1st Pressing. So obviously I have old taste in music and I'm proud of it. While I'm a fan of The High Kings which has Bobby Clancy's Son Finbarr Clancy I'm mainly only interested in singers from the 50s and 60s even though I'm in my Mid 30s because the songs were "clean" back then compared to nowadays.
Coollll..
Nice song good performance friend.
That song is SO lovely! I can't help but feel I've just been taken back in time to 1990. Thank you, Rory...for a few moments of memories as my younger self. BTW, I was getting a bit worried, when all of Friday passed with no song for this week.
Absolute favorite version of this song
Wow…. That was great 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
This version is too little recorded. I'm glad you've done it in preference to the jauntier man's point of view.
The things parents will tell their kids, to keep them out of trouble. 😉
One of the first I learned from your Dad on the old albums. Never heard it before on Banjo though!
❤
