Rit lavi a (The Rhythm of Life) (Ducasse) | LSM 2024 Festival Orchestra
Text (some lyrics changed for this recording): 1 Now rest beneath night's shadow The woodland, field, and meadow; The world in slumber lies. But you, my heart, awaking And prayer and music making, Let praise to your Creator rise. 4 Lord Jesus, since You love me, Now spread Your wings above me And shield me from alarm. Though Satan would devour me, Let angel guards sing o'er me: This child of God shall meet no harm. 5 My loved ones, rest securely, For God this night will surely From peril guard your heads. Sweet slumbers may He send you And bid His hosts attend you And through the night watch o'er your beds.
Such talent! It's amazing.
❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful... (thank you).
Heavenly!!!
Based on the title, I'm thinking this was the inspiration. Bells are so fun! Peace Prayer of St. Francis Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
Beautiful!!!
"I thank you, heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. You kept me safely through the day, now keep me safe this night, I pray. Forgive my sins where I have erred in wrongful deed or thought or word. Be with me through the dark night hours lest I succumb to Satan’s powers. Into your hands, O Father, I offer all I am and have. Your holy angel in the night keep watch o’er me till morning light. O Christ, my Savior, be my song each morning, evening, all day long, who with the Father we give praise, and Holy Spirit, all our days. Amen."
Just Heavenly!!!
Inspired by hymn When Morning Guilds the Skies 1 When morning gilds the sky, our hearts awaking cry: May Jesus Christ be praised! in all our work and prayer we ask his loving care: May Jesus Christ be praised! 2 To God, the Word on high, the hosts of angels cry: May Jesus Christ be praised! Let mortals too upraise their voice in hymns of praise: May Jesus Christ be praised! 3 Let earth's wide circle round in joyful notes resound: May Jesus Christ be praised! Let air and sea and sky from depth to height reply: May Jesus Christ be praised! 4 Be this, when day is past, of all our thoughts the last: May Jesus Christ be praised! The night becomes as day when from the heart we say: May Jesus Christ be praised! 5 Then let us join to sing to Christ, our loving King: May Jesus Christ be praised! Be this the eternal song through all the ages long: May Jesus Christ be praised! Psalter Hymnal, 1987
Joy and energy on a cloudy, cold day!
Simply BEAUTIFUL!!!
Beautiful!!! Thank You
Thanks for keeping this wonderful music alive!
this is just beautifully done
We look forward to listening to this again this evening. Thank you.
It’s all beautiful music, but the lyrics are totally lost! I couldn’t understand a single word, and since the hymn was unfamiliar to me, it was lost. This is a poor way to proclaim the Gospel. Maybe put the words on screen, too? I’m not sure if I will be continuing with this series if they are all like this.
I clicked on "More" and saw all stanzas appear --
Also sung at Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral. Text: "The day thou gavest, Lord, is ended, the darkness falls at thy behest; to thee our morning hymns ascended, thy praise shall sanctify our rest. We thank thee that thy Church, unsleeping while earth rolls onward into light, through all the world her watch is keeping and rests not now by day nor night. As o'er each continent and island the dawn leads on another day, the voice of prayer is never silent, nor dies the strain of praise away. The sun that bids us rest is waking our brethren 'neath the western sky, and hour by hour fresh lips are making thy wondrous doings heard on high. So be it, Lord; thy throne shall never, like earth's proud empires, pass away; thy kingdom stands, and grows for ever, till all thy creatures own thy sway."
This is the BEST!!!! Keep the Beautiful Music alive for our Savior!!
I like to read the lyrics as I listen; based on Sara Teasdale's "There Will Be Rest:" "There will be rest, and sure stars shining Over the roof-tops crowned with snow, A reign of rest, serene forgetting, The music of stillness holy and low. I will make this world of my devising Out of a dream in my lonely mind. I shall find the crystal of peace, - above me Stars I shall find."
Just beautiful! This is the best way to celebrate Advent!
Advent day 2. Thank you for this piece that certainly invokes longing and hope. We so enjoyed watching this performance online this past summer.
Thank you for these Advent musical reflections. We look forward to each day's offering. It was interesting to read about the Buxtehude-Bach connection.
Great recording, was spectacular to hear it live
For those who'd like to read the lyrics - I couldn't find a version that has the additional Dieterich Buxtehude text "Lord, Keep Us Steadfast In Your Word; Curb Those Who By Deceit Or Sword Would Wrest The Kingdom From Your Son And Bring To Naught All He Has Done. Lord Jesus Christ, Your Power Make Known, For You Are Lord Of Lords Alone; Defend Your Holy Church, That We May Sing Your Praise Triumphantly. O Comforter Of Priceless Worth, Send Peace And Unity On Earth; Support Us In Our Final Strife And Lead Us Out Of Death To Life."
I don't think you would like the original lyrics to Luther's hymn. Francis Browne's translation of Luther's first verse (which is indeed close to the German) is: Preserve us, Lord, with your word, and control the murderous rage of the Pope and the Turks, who would want to cast down Jesus Christ, your son, From his throne. We generally sing three verses of this hymn using Catherine Winkworth's translation.
It is very beatifull!
Been feeling homesick for LSM recently, man this was such a fun piece to play. I miss this so much. Only 7 months until I'm back! <3
Nicely performed! Thank you for keeping this composer's music and memory alive. When he passed away in 2007, I contacted the New York Times's music desk to ask if they could run an obituary for him (as he was the dean of American Indian composers, after all), and they gave me a dismissive brush-off.
Belíssima voz.
Very well done!
Love how the musicians are swaying to the beat when they’re not playing ❤️
I've been a Lutheran my whole life (LCMS) and I've never seen that practice of a Pastor doing that with a palm branch. Not sure what it is but its very interesting

What a wonderful performance! A huge thank you to Elizabeth Ames and all the students for their captivating interpretation. I absolutely loved it!
