    Nice to see this works! I am building a self balancing robot - it currently uses just a gyro, but I was thinking of using an ultrasonic sensor to reset the angle to compensate for gyro drift. I have tried combining with an accelerometer, but got worse results as it moves around a lot.

    Try standard servo and heavier arm. I will try this too. Nice experiment. Could also just use a MPU6050 sensor in place of utrasonic sensors - easier to implement.

      The HC-SR04 ultrasonic distance sensor can measure from 2cm to 400cm. In this project the graphical UI was just for demonstration and not to scale. Robotics Everyday!

      Did you manage to get some usable data out of it? I have recently created a similar design using the VL53L0x and two stepper motors (one turning the object and the other one moving the sensor vertically using a threaded rod) and the output is just garbage.

      That's the plan! We are also thinking of making a handheld 3D-Scanner, which will have distance sensors and IMU to get the exact position of the scanner in the 3D space and make the scanner portable. Thanks for the tip! Robotics EveryDay!

    At least you mention at the end that if you follow this tutorial you'll likely fry your arduino ... I don't think I could ever trust a source that directly connects a motor to the pins of any microcontroller,

    Very cool but I think the limitation you are seeing are due to the spacing of the transmitter and receiver. The top missing data may be due to the reflection of the wave due to the sharp angle.
