    @daneolds515, I am on my road to repairing my Sega CDX. I did a recap and installed a new laser. It seems to still have trouble reading disks. Audio CD won't play. CD games will load sometime and crash or skip really randomly. The only 2 caps I didn't replace was the 2 polymer caps that console5 doesn't include in there cap kit. Any ideas? Maybe I got a crappy laser? Do you still have the link to where you got your laser? The new laser installed was a Sanyo SF-C93AQ . Thanks for any help

    • @daneolds515
      @daneolds515 11 дней назад

      @@Oldfashionedgarage likeliest culprit is the laser. The first time I did one of these the first laser was bad. They usually have a solder jumper that you have to solder if I remember right. Been a While since I’ve done one. Did you mess with any of the laser potentiometers? If you do be sure to mark their default spot with a marker before you change them. You always want to be able to go back to the default settings. Unfortunately sourcing parts for these is getting harder all the time. You may wan to grab another laser but trying the potentiometers can’t hurt as long as you mark them. Hope that helps!

      @@daneolds515 Thank you for the reply. As for the solder jumper, do you mean the antistatic solder blob you have to de-solder? if so yes I did de solder that. I have not yet played with the pots as I am not sure which one I need to mess with . Do you still have the eBay seller from Hong Kong that you got your laser from?

      @@Oldfashionedgarage I dug back through my ebay orders and it looks like the seller was etrade168. Looks like they are away right now. The blob was what I was talking about. Oh no! Yeah, unfortunately that was the fate of many consoles back in the day. I've been able to repair a handful that had that happen but it can be touch and go. What all did you end up having to do to get it fixed up? I'll definitely agree that the CDX is a challenge to get into and work on but it doesn't hold a candle to the Victor Wondermega. On the point about Octagon gate being good for fighting games, I used to think that, but now I've come to realize it completely depends on the game. For example Tekken plays like poopoo on an octagon, because Diagonal inputs are so important in the game, and it's significantly easier to find the corners on a square. Then on the other side, doing a quarter circle on a square feels a little more wonky. So it depends on the game, and to some extent the characters that you like to play.

    • @daneolds515
      @daneolds515 Год назад

    • @daneolds515
      @daneolds515 Год назад

      Hi! Composite and RF are still enabled. You have to switch off RGB via a switch or controller command to switch from RGB to composite but that’s it. In fact you can even send composite over the AV multi-out. The yellow jack will still work though.

I've been confused about the expansion mod because I've realized the mod exactly your describes but I can't get nothing diferent about sounds in an original Akumajou Densetsu testing. Hey, good to hear from you. Are you running the expansion audio into an RGB board or are you just doing your audio expansion to the NES its self? Depending on which you are doing will change which pin your are connecting to. If you are doing expansion audio into an RGB board you want to go from pin 9 to pin 2 and run your wire out to the RGB board. If you are not running into an RGB board you wan to connect pin 9 to pin 3. I explain this a bit more in depth here: ruclips.net/video/QkgmKIpnPeU/видео.html Hope that helps! Good luck!

    I have a CDX that will read Audio-CD's but seems to crash when trying to read Sega CD- discs. What's funny is that it will sometimes read the discs as Audio and can playback the audio no problem... Would a laser replacement be appropriate or do you think something else is going on?

    hi there, all game gears ive seen are notorious for capacitor problems, among other suprises you may find, all the plastic casing capacitors are glued to the boards (motherboard and some older consoles have them on the sound board also), first with pliers give them a soft wigle to break the glue, then aplly some flux and with a thin tip iron desolder them, after removing all, clean the board with alchool and solder new caps, i use ceramic ones, much easier and clean job, never leave any old caps, all of them will fail and leak.

    • @daneolds515

      Yep! Game Gears always need a full recap. These days I prefer to replace the audio and power boards all together. Thanks for watching!
