Gameplay and commentary for Marvel Champions: The Card Game, by Fantasy Flight Games. My focus is on heroic solo play with a goal of beating every scenario in the game on heroic using a different hero. Enjoy the games!
Phoenix Aggression vs Heroic Magneto (Game 2) | Marvel Champions Gameplay
Please enjoy my second attempt at defeating Magneto on Heroic difficulty (+1 encounter card) using Phoenix. I've changed aspect for this one - switching from Justice to Aggression.

Nova Justice vs Heroic Venom Goblin (Game #2) | Marvel Champions Gameplay

I was alerted to a rules mistake in my first game that I believe was significant enough to undermine my desired claim to having defeated Venom Goblin on heroic difficulty. I am playing the same deck and scenario with no modifications, so if you are interested in hearing my Venom Goblin breakdown and deck description, I direct you there. If you watched that one already, this game won't look terr...

51m40s. A card stays in play until its "When defeated" effect is fully resolved. So the Side Scheme skips the reshuffle, yes. As you did. Because the encounter deck run out of card "during the resolution" of the "when defeated" effect. As a reminder, you can see it as a "Death Rattle", like the last desperate move of a card before actually dying/go to the graveyard/discard pile. In this case, it mills the encounter deck as last move. The encounter deck reiniates as forced interrupt during resolution of milling, and then the card dies. Anyway, I wish you the best for this challenge with Phoenix. It seems really tough, and I think my collection is too limited to attempt it. I don't even own Phoenix, but that is beside the point lol. I'm gonna try some MTS villain in Heroic Mode with Captain Marvel for a start.
Thanks for the clarification! Good luck with the games - Captain Marvel is very strong so you should have a good shot.
at 37:00 I believe the way you played it with removing the magnet counters first is now the actual official way to do it as of the 1.6 rules.
Oh nice! Do you know if it was a specific errata for that card or something more general? Did a quick search of the RR and couldn't find anything
@@Stretch22_MarvelChampions Yeah, memory is faulty. I must've picked it up on a WebWarriorFanatic video, but I did find the "pseudo-official" ruling on Hall of Heroes: "I was looking at the Magneto scenario in Mutant Genesis, and I noticed that about 1/4 of the magnetic cards add a magnet counter when revealed. When these cards are revealed as part of the response on the main scheme, does adding the magnet counter re-trigger the response before the counters have been removed (resulting in another Magnetic card)?" No; you should remove the 3 magnet counters first before resolving the Magnetic card you revealed. -Alex
@@Vreely Got it. Thanks for finding that!
Much more tense run than the previous one, with interesting decision points. Really like your deck and gameplan/play pattern for this boss. I may try heroic mode, you make me feel it can be interesting with the right mindset/approach!
Good fight, was fun to watch. Ty for the video 🙂👍
I liked that you included the spoiled card, makes for a cool preview of sorts. :)
Good match, but personally I think setting the deck for every single match is a great advantage. I usually prefer built a deck that is able to face up every villains and don't change it except when I want test different built.
It is a huge advantage for sure. I have a lot of fun playing these high power matchups where every card has a role and underplayed cards have an opportunity to shine. I also believe it necessary to my goal of beating each scenario on Heroic (in an acceptable number of attempts). There's definitely value to building general-purpose decks, it's just not what my channel is about at the moment
Shame it wasn't a clean win before but hey got there eventually! I ended up tweaking my list to be closer to yours and it's been pretty effective. Curious if there's a name for the shuffling method you use? Looks satisfying haha.
Glad to hear it! I think I've seen it called Mash shuffle? Only works with sleeved cards
I wanna see more player decks created "before" the villain is revealed. :)
I respect that but it probably doesn't work for my games since I build my decks specifically to counter each scenario
@@Stretch22_MarvelChampions No probs. I do enjoy a good deck construction too. Though this was born from the idea that villain decks are set to "take all comers" why not give it a try with Hero decks. 😀
Real fast rush. A little clarification (I hope I'm not wrong on this): consequential damage is the last part of the combat resolution so the healing ability of Magneto happen first he takes that damage.
You're totally right. Did a quick rewatch and didn't matter for this game but good to remember that
I appreciate that you notate the mistakes. Almost impossible to play w/out a mistake, but glad you point them out and even track back to what would have happened.
I love Phoenix but her nemesis is a real nightmare. This match with avenger mansion would be very different: one more card/resource for turn is very helpfull vs the extra encounter card. Thanx for the video.
My gut says Mansion is too slow but I may try it eventually. So hard to take time off to play developing cards in this scenario. I can barely get all my 2-cost ones in play
Or you may try adding x-jet, another good call with Forge.
I appreciate the deck breakdown before the battle. Good content!
55:38 Wouldn't Bring the War discard Surveillance Specialist since it has a printed wild resource on it?
Shoot!!! Yeah it totally should, my bad. Well as much as I try to stamp out mistakes I always said it will be a happy day when someone watches my channel closely enough to catch a mistake like that. I'll have to circle back to this matchup another time
Great game. I love playing in heroic mode: 90% of heroes wins easily in expert mode vs 90% of villains. Heroic mode is not perfect to balance the difficulty of the game but is a good compromise. I usually use standard 3 set for more challenge, except when I use heroes with terrible nemesis like Phoenix. Personally I think two of the strongest hero for heroic mode are Bishop/leadership and Cable/justice. Thanks for your "heroic" videos.
Thanks! I definitely like Standard 3 as a difficulty boost that avoids the swingy nature of heroic. I am trying to use heroes against scenarios from their same wave of product releases, but Bishop and Cable are definitely candidates to be called in as ringers if I struggle against some of the other villains.
As you said, you were a bit lucky with both your draw and the encounter/boost cards on first few turns, but I still think the strategy is well thought out for the challenge, even with consistency issue. Very pleasing to watch. Regarding rules, two points. Retaliate has been ruled out in player favor in 1.6. When you defeat a villain stage, you defeat the ennemy, so retaliate never trigger, even if the next stage has retaliate. Second point is the most common misplay on youtube from all players, experienced or not, so don't worry lol. A "treachery" or "event" stays on the table until fully resolved. ie: you draw "gang up" you give boost card, you resolve all attacks, which include discarding boost cards, and THEN you discard gang up. Most of the time, this "nitpick" really does not matter at all, but sometime, it makes event/treachery skip a reshuffle. This said, Good game, Stretch22. You are a very good player.
Thanks! Thought I had heard about the retaliate change speculation but didn't know it made it in the actual RR.
Awesome battle! Thanks for the video!
Perfect timing! I'm about to start the MTS campaign with Nova J and Spiderman L, will be cool to see your perspective of the deck before I finalize my list.
Nova’s a bit trickier in multiplayer because of higher starting threat on schemes, but there should be more minions and schemes overall. Have fun!
I really like how you managed to squeeze out the most value of niche cards such as "spider man noir" and "chance of fortune". You made all stars line up with sun and moon lol. Sinister Six, best for CoF, Heroic Mode, best for Spider Man Noir. Ghost Spider best for increasing value of interrupt/response during villain phase thanks to her ready ability and web bracelet. Add a little bit of unflappable for extra draw, and that's it: the symphony is composed lol Very good game, very good strategy: love your channel.
Thank you! In order to beat heroic scenarios I'm always looking for opportunities to optimize to the scenario at hand, and I'm glad you share my enjoyment of that. It's not really possible for some scenarios but Sinister Six has tons of room for counterplay
Awesome battle! Thanks for the video!
Appreciate you making this video! Helps the workday go by faster
Awesome gameplay! Thanks for the video!
Awesome gameplay! Spiderham has probably the best economy considering only the hero kit. Thanks for the video!
Use spdr pool
Sp//dr has a sweet Repurpose protection deck that I actually want to play. 'Pool is light on archetypes to make it a regular part of the rotation, but I may play it from time to time when a cool opportunity presents itself. I'll also include it in the Next Evolution cycle as a nod to it coming out in that wave
Which do you think is a bigger difficulty jump, standard 2 expert 2 or heroic
It's too close for me to confidently say, especially since I've never actually played expert 2. If it was encounter deck alone, heroic would definitely be harder, but Formidable Foe might tip the scales. It makes losing to Advance so much more likely even though each villain phase on average is easier.
Honestly might be about time i also play heroic or standard 2 expert 2. Like you said a full card collection kinda makes villains that are not capstones kinda easy and it will give me an excuse to play the weaker villians again
Spdr vs ronan heroic expert 2
Awesome battle! Thanks for the video!
I watched every video in the series, it was awesome! I hope to see more heroic X-Men content soon!
I'm honored! Next X-Men I do will probably be Age of Apocalypse once all the hero packs are out for this wave
Awesome game. I would love to see some of your builds with Iceman!
Thank you! I'll go through the Age of Apocalypse box once all 4 hero packs from that wave are out...so sorry to say it'll be a few months :(
Awesome gameplay! Thanks for the video!
GG WP! Gotta say that Mystique makes this a much harder scenario imo but playing Heroic is no joke.
Colossus is criminally underrated. I admit that I fell in that camp for a long time too
Cool games, good commentary!
Loving this content already. Keep it up!
Good game and fun match up!!
