A stunning bowl Keith, Thank for your channel!
Keep up the good work
Slick
Make yourself happy.😃🏝️🇨🇦
I'll pay ya $100 for that good for noth'n dog of yours.
Great video Keith love to see the rest of the process! Thanks for your channel!
could you build a wooden platform to elevate the stand/support on? to elevate it to the center of the bowl
Yes but better if steel all the way down or cement.
Would like to see finishing video on the big bowl/platter.
Scraper instead of sanding perhaps ?
Indeed
Sadly, I see more and more consumers buying plastic this or plastic that. We Craftsmen are a dying breed.
Love all Of this
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
Is it strange that I trust the opinion of someone with a shop with unfinished walls more than someone with textured and painted shop walls? 😂 The focus is on the product. The environment isn’t a mess, it’s just pretty walls ain’t the end all here.
Nice mojo you're working with there.
Not entirely related, but I've had to free some furniture from pests before. Don't bother with chems. Just wrap it in a plastic bag, rig up a bucket so it won't spill inside, vinegar and baking soda, seal the bag, let it fill with co2 for 24 hrs. Everything will die. Use co2 cartridges for wood though acetic acid is a vapor and may mess with your finish :) the vinegar smell leaves a couch though in a day or two.
couldnt stop laughing when the big makita came out!! great job sir
Glad you liked it!
Wonderful video, thank you.
I won’t use any wood with bug tunnels , there will likely be eggs laid ..Given right conditions The eggs can hatch , ie humidity and heat. Had it happen in two cases.. had to remove built in cabinetry for fumigation, at five hundred bucks a pop to fumigate .I think oak is the worst
You either take care of the bugs or you close your doors to logs and sawmill prices.
Art at times is tasking to say the least. I will spend hours on a piece only for it to not be what I wish it to be in the end. Watching his videos and listening to his thoughts have helped me emotionally and immensely. Thank you sir.
Well said!
Put a wedge in the kerf to keep it from pinching and let the saw do the work you were really forcing it .
I can't understand the plug in the exhaust of the planer, you are going to burn it up. You seriously need a dust collector.
There is a dust collector outside
I love watching you work, I try to use some of your ideals in my own shop. Your ability to keep calm is that of a great master l, that I am far off from achieving. I also really like how you use what you have and keep it kicking around even if it's old and tattered. Your shop isn't just filled with expensive new tools that still shine. They show a story of use that amazes me. Keep up the great work Keith, thank you for sharing your wisdom of the art
Great video, I was really hoping to see that bowl being made! Hopefully in the next one!
“It’s all written in the snow” love it. The process is real, frustrating sometimes but in the end you find your way👊🏾
Would like to see a projekt from start to finish instead of just parts all the time😅👍🏽
Calm Chaos. Very entertaining and relatable, loving it
Love your shop dogs and the sawdust.👍🏝️🇨🇦
when you said she was rounded at the bottom I thought you were gonna flip her over
New subscriber here. I have to give you credit, you keep a good attitude when you are struggling!!
Wow. Problems and problem solving.
Good for you taking a chance on live oak. Had the opportunity to use small pieces and liked it. I’ve tried to get my hands on some trunks but it’s always too big for me to move and bad timing. I know how cantankerous the wood can be. I was gifted some blue gum eucalyptus it was some of the most beautiful wood and the most difficult. My shop sits under the canopy of a live oak here in so cal. Good luck
Excellent presentation. Thank you for sharing this with us. The education is greatly appreciated.
Glad it was helpful!
3 seconds of the wood and the rest was your face. Make it about the wood next time ao it's actually educational. I only learned what you look like and that you like being on camera and you didn't quality control some lumber years ago.
I disagree. The knowledge is the focus, not the exact product.
Ownership of problems = repeat business. Keep trucking sir.

What’s the heat treating process you use?
Bedbug heater. Set it to max ar 140 in an insulated booth.
@@KeithNewtonWoodworking Yeah, heat is the only way to kill powderpost (and other) beetles. I had a big infestation when I was first starting out and hd accumulated too much good cheap wood stored outside. I bought a 20' container and lined the inside with insulation, set up three 6' baseboard heaters and cooked batches at 140-150 until it was hot inside the wood (up to 24 hours for large pieces like 12'x12' timbers). I would just immediately burn any pieces that were really infected to get rid of most of the beetles from the start and kept one infected piece as a bellwether to know whether my efforts were successful. Fumigation can not get deep inside of any wood, especially one like live oak. Powderpost beetles can have lifecycles from 5 months to 5 years depending on temperature and moisture, so it can take a while until they emerge. They will not infect any wood that is fully coated with a finish, but can find cracks in the finish and also redeposit eggs back into the holes that they make when they emerge to breed. I find that they like maples (because of the sugars), oaks, ash, and only very limited in walnut and cherry.
@@KeithNewtonWoodworkinghow long do you leave the wood in the booth for?
@@warrenwerks He did a video on his debugging set up and process: ruclips.net/video/vgndFkGR_nA/видео.html
@ thanks!
If you use a oil finnish, use diezel as a thinner. It helps a lot against bugs and termites.
Good luck with that.
Thanks for taking the time to share this informative video, appreciated. From a UK based tree surgeon/woodworker👍
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Keith! Do bugs stay in resin-stabilized wood after 9 years? I have a bench I made out of live oak that had tons of bug holes in it. I filled it with epoxy, and it hasn't been an issue, but are you saying the bugs could stay alive and continue decaying the wood even after it's been furniture for a year? Where is your shop located?
Yeah 3-5 years is the lifespan I’m finding online. Need to know the species I guess
Yes they do
@@danfranklin.6258 In my case, I believe is is coast live oak, but I'm not 100% sure. Is it dangerous to bring them in your home?
Need more videos man! Love your unique workflow and view on woodworking
More to come!
I'm from the same generation that all circlular saws are Skilsaw's . That's the power of influence of the model 77 worm drive
I use my Delta Unisaw more than any other saw. I also bought that same humongous Makita circular saw for timber framing but not much else. Your dogs are beautiful. I kept expecting the yellow to pop through your legs when you weren’t expecting it.
“I would stir my coffee with it”!!!!
Reciprocating saws are somewhat safe so long as you’re not cutting through pipes and wires😮👍🇨🇦
I meant the sanding machine out in the open that you didn't have a name for, I have one the same, the belt goes horizontal or vertical and the table ajusts to all angles. In Fresno it's probably OK outside a lot of the time. If I put mine outside here in South Wiltshire in England, it would be rusty in 24 hours. They are very useful.
Check out Mirka dust free solutions. Game changer!!
The outside sander is what we call a linisher in the UK
Yes, the 3 on the right are considered a finish sander as well. But have the ability of a sander and a grinder. It moves lots of material .
i would love to have steady hands like you Sean Ireland Thanks
Hello Ireland. Thanks for the comment. I have an O'Hara in my genes from the potato famine era. Will visit you when I come to the islands sometime if you are available. Stay safe.

Now that is a work bench that has seen a fair number of projects. Love the wear and tear it shows.
That is my laguna bench. The vice is about worn out but it just keeps on.
