Are the Essex Coastal Islands worth Kayaking
Took a train to Walton on the Naze with my shipwreck arrowstream inflatable kayak and camping equipment. Headed up the coast to some wildlife sanctuary islands to spend the night.
Had an issue the next morning getting to the water with low tide as the ground was boggy clay, and was cut off from the sea so had to drag the kayak over sand.

Waterproofing/Re-Waterproofing a pop top canvas

While my fabric was waterproof directly through, the fabric would still absorb water and wick into the van. I use a simple mixture of silicone and white spirit to apply some waterproofing. Vivaro campervan conversion. Music: www.bensound.com

Insulating The Van! Vivaro Campervan Conversion

In this video I insulate the van. I use sheep's wool. It's warm, absorbs moisture without getting damp and lets it out again, is nice to work with and flame retardant. I use foil bubble wrap as a moisture barrier, and kingspan insulation board glued to the roof before putting the ply lining back on. Music: www.bensound.com

Picking up a Van for Camper Conversion!
Any chance of a blueprint? This is awesome
Great work. Love it!
I really like the colour of your vinyl roll, sounds silly to ask but what sort of grey colour did you use? Im looking for something like that or at least similar to that.
Probably best to prime the van before using the sealant. Hope your windows haven't fallen out by now
@@maxv77 some adhesives don't require primer, some do. My windows are still on!
Super well done thanks for the video, could you give me info on the slab/foundation please (timber size) .
From memory, 12 inches deep around the edge, 8-10 inches in the middle, steel reinforcement. Standing strong, some told me that was too much some told me not enough. But definitely enough
You hope it will stop from rusting in the future. I've removed trim from the vivaro we've just bought (where you enter the rear section through the sliding door), yep, as you can guess, A LOT OF RUST. The trim will not necessarily stop rust. Rust treat it well !!!!
You crazy 😂😢😅, i would get a truck tuned and cover, and go from there 😂😢😅
Love your videos!
Simply BRILLIANT!
Love it! Had a chuckle at your optimism "Probably won't go wrong". Super cute! I am also EXTREMELY impressed by your ingenuity (and your bravado!), you give me faith in my ability to make my own pop-top roof!
Fair play to you George, it take some balls to cut the roof off your van, can't wait to see the end product, keep up the good work.👍
My van ain't got no roof !
Thank you so much on all the info here. I’ve been in two minds for an age whether to fit a pop top or get a hi top. Thank you 🙏🏽 I love your hoodie…. Lost one just like it! It would be so funny if it’s the same one! If so, I’m glad it went to a good home 😁 keep up the good work. Thank is again! 👌🏽👍🏽
Just what I am looking for, but will have to go elsewhere to find out how to fit van lock, I just can't stand that annoying music! Bye.
This video should be banned People could hurt themselves and other people.. Don't try this at home that's not the way the job should be done
Great concept and looks awesome -great job 🎉 unfortunately your music dominated your voice and narration of what you did - so lots of audio lost
Hi is your kayak a 1 or 2 man kayak? Thank you.
This is the 2 man
@@georgescott6671 thank you. I live in Southampton and I'm going to be doing this next spring. Did you start at Milford on Sea then cross over to the Isle of Wight?
This is like 500 bucks of aluminum if you get it at home depot. Go ask a local scrap dealer if you can buy metal by the pound, some will. Then you can find aluminum and get it for a lot cheaper. You can't get exactly what you want but sometimes you get lucky.
great shots throughout the video, superb spot for a paddle, what drone are you using
Think it's the mavic 2
Mix a tube silicone with thinners and aplly to ouside of canvas or get some tent sealer like fabrasil either will cure you wicking problem
Very nice work man. Simple is the best. I loved.
Nicely done, I would however highly recommend replacing the half euro cylinder in the back door for one about 5mm shorter, just to discourage any bad people trying to snap it, they would fail to get in, but would cause a lot of damage trying.
An interesting trip, well documented. A bouayancy aid is really necessary to stay safe, particularly in winter!
Hi I have transit connect swab I was hoping to get roof done like the one you have my question roughly how much would it cost thx
Amazing trip, drone footage makes all the difference for us. Quite brave going out there in a mist on your own. It looks like a maze of islands and waters, easy to get lost? I can't see which way it the sea.... but when on the ground not in sky with drone, I think you used compass? Being cut out of sea in low tide!- that's a proper adventure and rainbow! Best IK sea video I've seen. thanks for sharing
I just use my phone for location
@@georgescott6671 I have phone too and garmin 66i satnav for hiking, I'll be all right then. Many thanks
Is this better than Fabsil?
I havent tried it. It's cheaper and you can adjust the consistency. But fabsil is probably easier
How does the one man compare to the two man when the water gets a bit more on the rough side of things?
It's a little less stable, but not a major difference to me
Conditions are very different late in the year - avoid!
Yeah I was lucky!
If you turn into an oncoming wave the kayak rides it better
I have only one but important question. When you report to the DVLA that you converted a VAN to a CAMPER..... they don't have any problems that you converted the roof? Are there any official guidelines on what needs to be done to strengthen the roof on the sides (cut crossbeams)?
I'm not planning on talking to the dvla, they have a crazy list of requirements and have been known to reject people even if they've done all of them
pointless trying to register with DVLA - they don't allow pop-top conversion as campers anyway, best you can get is "van with windows" because they don't have a high roof, you need to be able to stand in the van as is. A full fibreglass high-top conversion is the only way to get it on a low roof van. The requirements are ridiculous and they apparently reject most applications. As long as your insurance company knows it's a camper (or build in progress) then you're all good. Just report the mods to the insurance as and when you install them; I'm with One Call and they don't charge for modifications for a build in progress
Should have just bought a poptop kit for 2k would be so much easier and look so much better. Im impressed with your bravery but for me you just ruined a perfectly good 2018 van
What a splendid film, GeorgeScott ! Thanks !
I think you should can this pop up top. Build a permanent top. The whole purpose is to stand up inside... in an enclosed top. Susu van restoration has a very good video on how he built a wood top.
PS you put the edging on without paining // rustproofing the cut edge its going to rust and run all down the back doors of the van. ALSO your supposed to carpet the inside before you put the edging on as you cant really tuck it under the edging once the window is glued in place .
cutting out the shapes was tricky because your supposed to use a nibbler , you can get one for £20 , you cut the beam out with the angle grinder then its a straight run all the way round in one go bit messye as you get steel chips everywhere but its the best tool for the job by far , i put an angle grinder through my hand using it the wrong way round like you did first time .
You drill rivets out m8.
Hi I have a 2019 vauxhall vivaro I would like to put double swivel plate in ...is tgere a model for this year does anybody know ? Thanks
I've just fitted mine and not tested if they leak yet but already checking what to do to fix it ha ha..... I notice when you removed your old window that you hadn't used a black primer on the body? did you use regular silicone to fit them?
Some kits have primer some don't, best to follow kit instructions. Mine didn't and on refitting properly has been leak free. Definitely don't use normal silicone!
@@georgescott6671 Thanks yes mine came with primer and some sort of window bonding stuff (looks like black silicone but very thick....fingers crossed i don't have any leaks but will be using your fix if i do :)
Wow! Seals! 😍
It's worth it
Love the simplicity and honesty of your videos. Hoping you'll keep going with videos. Any updates on the camper?
Haven't had enough use with it but can see more videos on the channel!
@@georgescott6671 yeah, but what about those of us that have watched them all?! 😉
Thx
Thanks for this!
Nice, they can now just peel your door!
Wow! I thought of getting into kayaking but, after watching your video, I knew I will get into kayaking!
Too bad for the chemtrails isolating you from the sun ⛅
Did you have any experience laying bricks before this?
Nope, just had a go. Really enjoyed it. Watched a few videos, and wish someone had told me about plasticiser before I started!
Thanks for the response. I'm toying with the idea of making a workshop out of block. I might just go for it.
Can we do a concrete roof in this mate?
@@manimahaprabu9345 concrete roof would be awful to do. Wood is far easier
Wear and tear on the bicycle...... 74p lolololol
it's not just the air in the room that "makes" the room temperature. walls, ceiling, floor, any objects in the room are massive heat capacitors which absorb and store your generated heat energy (-so it isn't just "lost")
Don't give up ! The attempt all by itself was impressive. There is a way to do this even though I don't know what it is . If you were powering a space heater by pedaling I'm sure you would get a better end result . I suck at math and am not tech savvy . I once attempted to rewire a washing machine and when I turned it on instead of washing my clothes it dried them jkjk
Great work! I will use your guide when building my own garage :) Thanks!
