Muddy Fences
США
Добавлен 9 янв 2015
I may not have learned everything I know from my Dad, but I learned the confidence to try. He once said that teaching is like mud on a fence, you just throw it out there and hope some of it sticks.
I am a self-proclaimed do-it-yourselfer, a jack of all trades - master of none. I hope to pass on a few things to my kids, friends, and anyone else who has a desire to learn.
Like many DIY and "instructional" videos, I show the use of many power tools and other things that can be very dangerous if used inappropriately or carelessly. I also use tools and safety equipment that are not always visible in the videos. It is totally your responsibility to use tools carefully and prevent injury.
My videos are low tech, so you will be disappointed if you are looking for glam and glitter.

Rear Wheel Removal - Kawasaki Vulcan
A bit more involved than the front wheel removal, but well within the realm of possible. There are more moving parts, so removing the rear wheel takes a bit longer. Remember to keep track of the orientation of the parts as they come off the bike. Although this is specific to my bike, it should be helpful for just about any bike out there.
Be careful and keep the rubber side down.

Table From a Milk Crate - DIY Build
Просмотров 7914 года назад
A vintage milk crate gets a new life as a table. This was a complete re-purpose / up-cycle project and no milk crates were harmed in the making of this table. I am old enough to remember milk crates and see them have a number of secondary uses. This beauty was found in Oatman, Arizona and with the ends from an old bed frame and some pallet wood it takes on a new life as a table. I use a lot of ...
Building a Bottle Lamp
Просмотров 1594 года назад
Never let a moment pass to tell a good friend how much you appreciate them in your life. After all, it's not the quantity of friends that you have, but rather the quality of those friends. This bottle was gifted to me from a good friend, after we enjoyed the contents, and the conversations (mostly BS of course). I secretly planned on making it into a lamp for Gary. It is a pretty simple project...
Cable Spool Coffee Table Build - DIY
Просмотров 3,3 тыс.5 лет назад
After my old cable spool had aged sufficiently, it was time for it to transform into a table that was a bit more appealing. It starts by cutting it down to size. I quickly realized that the center holes are not necessarily centered in the boards. After a second cut to true up the edges, it was off to clean up the table top. There are a ton of nails and other hardware. These give the table the c...
Game of Thrones - House of Stark clock

Watch me make a House of Stark clock as a gift. This is a pretty simple build out of scrap wood, acrylic hobby paint, and a clock mechanism. The most time consuming aspect was painting the wolf. I'm not nerdy enough to pick a side in the Game of Thrones, so to each their own. I use power tools and build techniques that can easily be replicated by other means. Remember that power tools are dange...
Glass Insulator Candle Holder

Sometimes we find treasures that aren't made of gold. I was lucky enough to find a flawless glass insulator from a downed power line. Watch me build a stand and use it as a candle holder. Over the years, I have scavenged a few leaf springs from angry back roads. The leaf springs are old, because they look like they were cut with a torch. I use a couple of them, along with a fast moving section ...
Wash Basin Light Fixture Build.

You never know what you will find, if you have no particular destination. Exploring some of the less popular areas of the Western plains, I stumbled upon this old wash basin (aka water basin, wash tub, etc.). I originally thought it would be perfect for a table lamp project that has been on the to-do list for a long time. After beating on this for a while, and seeing it come to shape, I changed...
Building a cart for the new welder. From scraps (really!)
Просмотров 26 тыс.5 лет назад
This cart is literally built from scrap materials (aka junk). I really hate it when someone reels you in by using the term "scraps", only to watch them pull raw steel from a pile in the yard. I know this is a long video which is often the kiss of death. I do learn a few tricks along the way, and I share those with you. Sorry for the unintentional excessive use of "fantastic". haha. The process ...
Kickstand Repair - Kawasaki Vulcan

Warning: your attempts at DIY repairs may not go perfectly. You might break something in the process. Join the club! Just don't whine to the adults in the room. A recent ride was cut short when I found the kickstand spring laying on the ground. I tried just putting the spring back in its place, but it was too loose, and the kickstand had a disgusting amount of slop. After some troubleshooting, ...
DIY Mobile Tool Stand Build From Scraps, and a Spare.
Просмотров 6505 лет назад
One way to improve workflow, and free up precious workbench space is to create mobile tool stands. My bench grinder and bench vice have both been attached to platforms that can be bolted, or clamped to any work surface. The mounting hole positions are identical. I used this mounting system in the design of the mobile tool stand, allowing me to change out the tools at will. I used scraps for thi...
Building a Curtain Rod - version 1
Просмотров 875 лет назад
This is one of my simplest builds to date. I have a difficult time throwing out old lumber, as you have probably guessed. This board has naturally weathered over the course of the years and only needed some minor touch up work. The carriage bolts were from a crate that I re-purposed. Even if this look isn't for you, the method can be used for countless options. As usual, be safe when working wi...
Firewood Rack - First MIG Welding Project
Просмотров 9495 лет назад
I finally get some gas for the welder, and I am excited to give it a go. Watch as an old table lamp becomes a convenient spot to store firewood on the outside patio. This project was fun and frustrating at times while I tried to dial in the welder settings, and my welding technique. The material didn't make things any easier as it was thin, flimsy, and definitely not true. In the end I succeede...
Sandpaper Cabinet Build

Build a simple cabinet for orbital sander pads. I chose to use mesh on the door so that I could easily see what my supply looked like. I use wood scraps and other hardware laying around to build this organizing cabinet. The joinery on this build is simple butt joints. The glue and nails will be more than enough to hold this together. I make simple tags from aluminum and a number punch, followed...

Great video
00:12 Yuuuuup that’s why I’m here
Thank you so much for this tutorial. It has helped me a lot. I am still trying to get INTO my scroll saw. which is pretty new. The older one went the same way. I am reluctant to buy yet another one, if they keep going this way. This showed me what the pins are for, and has helped me try and work out (if possible) a way of getting into the inside. so far I had taken all the screws out, but no joy as yet. BUT - this certainly helped to let me know what it looks like inside and what the issue is. SO, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
7yrs later this video coming in clutch to help me not pay extra for this thanks a lot 😊
@@jcrazy9008 And 7 years later, I love hearing this kind of feedback. Take care.
Should be a 27mm wrench
Didn't use the right wrench for the crownut, teaching to round the nut and becoming a project
Thanks for the info i just tested mine and it was bad
Is it possible to change the oil/rebuild seals without removing the bottom bolt and crush washer? I can't find a replacement crush washer or its size spec in the manual and don't want to take it apart if I can't replace that. Could I follow all the steps except that one.amd dump it out from the top?
@@Kainiel1 It is possible to drain and fill from the top. There is also a good chance that you can reuse the crush washer as well.
Thanks for the video.
Good tips
Danke ❤❤
I can't remove the iron seal that is under the plastic seal, any advice?
Looking at buying 1600 with bad kickstand. I wonder if using a washer as a shim would work in place of welding.
My coil had a reading of 19k... I'm replacing it in hope my cdi isnt dead
Learned more from this video than all the others combined
Pity there wasn’t more lighting so we could actually see what’s what!…..
My Dad left me his 1982 KZ650 CSR when he passed away. It only has 6k miles on it and its in good shape, but still needed a carb cleaning. Your videos have helped me so much.
@@psychosolver Cherish that bike. I'm glad the video helped.
Exactly like what I'm wanting to make! You did a great job, made it look so simple! Thank You for your videos!
i get the feeling this is going to suck with stock exhaust
What kind of metal is the replacement rod? Is it a stronger material?
@@WhoOwl-o4f No, it's just some all-thread.
Great video! Im gearing up here to do my first rebuild. What rebuild kit do you recommend? And what size are those crush washers? Im just trying to get all the parts together before diving in
@Kainiel1 I have had good results from all-ballz products. I don't know what size those crush washers are. You may need to get them OEM , or see if you can get the size off a spec sheet.
Tank you
thats trans wood
Instead of a pipe to push in the seal, try a pvc plastic pipe, works for me.
Awesome video. Almost identical to my classic. Question, why did you put the spring and upper plug in just to install the bottom drain bolt, only to remove again?
You have to put tension/ pressure on the threaded nut inside, so that you can torque the bottom drain bolt.
Howdie from Canada 🇨🇦 Sk l,m on a farm were sorry this aint going to cut it up ya got concrete floors good but if ya made it so would not fall over in the yard then thinking ya might just have something ol,m 😮tir😢ed of dragging mine so looking for a plan like yours but so can hold welding parts ya know what l mean all the goodies then ya might hav it just saying no l,m not picky just ya not only one thers lots of ya guys doing this !!! Thanks for this great video, it helped me a lot
You're welcome. Thanks for the feedback.
Or just torque washers inside or out
Thank you
Very helpful , thanks bud!
My pleasure.
Turns out that may not be necessary……..uhhhh ok
How did you jack up the bike? I have a hydraulic motorcycle jack, a triple tree stand and a rear wheel stand. The front wheel is too big for the triple street stand, but I was able to use the triple tree stand anyway by setting them on some cement blocks. I question how stable the bike is using my jack and triple tree stand.
Whatever setup you have, it appears to be very stable.
It is a hand made lift from a couple of 2 x 8 boards that are screwed together. A piece of pipe on one end serves as a lever to cantilever the bike up on the edge of the wood. I wish I could remember the RUclips video that I got the idea from.
Thanks for the assist! Just got a flat yesterday.
Great video!
Thank you.
Exactly what I needed to know. Thanks.
Great video
I need to replace my seals on my 2011 900 custom SE, this video has given me the knowledge I need to be confident in my ability to do this repair myself. Bike shops want over 600 in labor to do this job
Is it code compliant?????????
What did you use for that aftermarket air cleaner?? I'd love to get rid of the old airbox on mine!
I used a pod filter. Just measure the intake side and find one you like. They aren't effective enough to run these bikes in the dirt though.
Donde te encuentras puedes reparar las mias
Mine does this every time I use it. ? Anyone else experience this ?
Do you think it is the tension bar out of the top or lower grooves binding up the saw.?
I can't get my drive axle to NOT spin with the drive sprocket to allow me to re-align the bolt hole. Do I need to grease it or something? Any tips would be great! Thank you
If the two of them try to spin together, it's usually because the end of the shear pin in the shaft is still in there and it mushroomed a little when it sheared off and wedged the axle in the sprocket. Turn the two until the hole in the sprocket is easily accessible, hold the wheels from turning and then rock the axle back and forth with some vice-grip pliers. Once the two holes line up you will probably have to drive out the remains of the shear pin out with a punch and a hammer. You "can" use a bolt like he does in this video as a substitute for the factory shear pin but, if so, you should use a grade 3 bolt only (no hash marks on the head). A grade 5 (3 hash marks as shown in this video) works great .... except, instead of shearing the pin next time you hit something hard, you might shear the keyway on the driving sprocket instead (ask me how I know 🥲) and then it's no longer an "easy fix". They do sell shear pins quite inexpensively at most hardware stores or tractor supply type stores and they are the preferred fix as they are meant to be sacrificial.
What size is that kickstand bolt? Thread size and shoulder?
Very nice video but you never showed how you bended the metal roof so evenly which I would like to know how to do.
Do you remember what the wheels came off of ? They look to be something like a runners baby stroller . Love the scrap build , looked awesome , thanks for the upload and the time taken for this video .
Pretty close. I think it was a bike tow stroller. It's still in use and works well.
@@muddyfences5559 Thanks for the reply . I think for my needs the wider double wheelbarrow wheels that are 3" wide would be better for me at this time . When it rains it is not fun to play in , and I wind up needing to stick a couple pieces of metal together at the most inopportune times . For a shop / garage build yours looks awesome , and even in the best color in the world and it even looks close to Mopar Purple (Plum Crazy) . Again , awesome build , thanks so much .
Good …but the friction will be high as compared to the one made with metal
The reason the switch bolt stripped is because it isn’t a Phillips; it’s a JIS…you used the wrong tool. The JIS is just different enough from Phillips to cause it to strip.
