As a classical musician exposed to vocalists in that genre, I wonder how you reacted to the female vocal in Great Gig In The Sky by Clare Torry
Pretty good attempt at a classical style descant, but not my favourite part of the album.
I love On The Run and Time (after the clocks die down!)
Hello Anthony , Rachel grimes has a number of group names that she performs under and composes beautiful music using her piano and classical instruments. Her music is hard to categorize but I think it is gorgeous and usually recorded very well. Try MUSIC FOR EGON SCHIELE, I believe you will appreciate her work. Thank you, Tony
@@wickedexile4531 will check out. Thank you. Love Schiele’s work.
Looking forward to this!
So which actually sounds better to you if you weren’t a reviewer?
@@JohnLee-db9zt More different than better. But reviewer or not, I chose Harmony with the upgraded arm.
When asked what he thought of Reiner, an anonymous CSO musician answered something like: not much of a conductor but a heck of a nice guy.
I love your reviewing work. Thank you so much Anthony. If it wasn’t for you, I would probably have missed out on this one which I immediately ordered as the 33 repress. Very eager to listen to the vinyl sound of this milestone recording. I take it that the 33 vinyl is an ADA spars, right? Or? Best from Germany
@@thomashertl3037 vielen dank. Pure AAA 👍

Hello Anthony and crew. Missed the live feed. Enjoyed the show again. How exiting to have Jerome carry the torch of analog art for new generations. James farber went to the same school I attended back in the seventies to study audio engineering. Thanks again tony
Im a newbie from Leicester UK. Really enjoyed your live stream...after the event. Really love the content. Cheers Ian.
@@IanKnight40 welcome, Ian. Glad to have you with us. Cheers..
This is going to be a fun series! I picked up the QRP pressed single lp reissue from acoustic sounds, it cost around $35.
The reissue is really nice for the $35 it cost… I’d even call it a bargain. My record was perfectly pressed at QRP on high quality vinyl, and has a solid tip-on jacket. It was half-speed mastered by Paul Stubblebine (possibly an in-house guy for RR) I can’t say how it compares sonically to the 2lp version, but this one sounds good to me.
Thanks for the review. I purchased many records from DG. Unfortunately, their QC is atrocious these days. I purchased last a super special edition of John Williams concert in Vienna. The amount of surface noise is like nothing I heard before from a new record. Inaudible. I lost 100USD right there. Won't trust them again, sad.
@@prokoviev I received my 3rd Bruckner box, an eBay purchase. No overfill disaster like the first two, but too many warps and other nonsense. Thankfully, my arm/cart combo can ride these out without any distortion or loss of pitch. It’s an amazing set. But the Optimal pressings 😳
I love my Solti Beethoven 9th London FFRR Chicago Symphony.
A beautiful recording and performance. I have this mastering but always wished for the 33 rpm speed. The majority of advantages that are ascribed to 45 rpm are not the speed itself but solely the amount of time cut on each side. Either speed actually achieve equal advantage if you reduce the timing per side or cut effectively to avoid the inner groove area. Would love to discuss this issue some day. Thank you for your channel, Tony
I love your channel, a good mine. Can you tell me what speakers you listen to please. Always interested from a musicians perspective of how you try and reproduce orchestral works and the problem with trying to reproduce the first Violins en masse. I agree with your sentiments about Previn , his Rachmaninoff has never been surpassed. We are so lucky to have his piano concerto recordings with Ashkenazy to make things complete. Cheers Ian.
@@IanKnight40 Thank you for the kind words. My reference loudspeakers are the BØRRESEN Acoustics 01 Silver Supreme Edition Loudspeakers. You’ll find my review, from a musician’s perspective at Audiophilia.
@@AudiophiliaChannel Thanks for your reply, I will pop over there and take a look. As a speaker designer and a passionate classical recording nut I always like to know what speakers reviewers and musicians use. My never ending quest for the reproduction of violins that sound realistic never ends!. Cheers Ian.
What Nad amplifiers are you using ? Thanks .
@@IanKnight40 This was at a store. I can’t remember the model. Apologies
@@AudiophiliaChannel HI, no worries, thanks for your reply I use the Nad C368 and was wondering how it matched with the Totem speakers .Cheers Ian.
It’s very big , it is top loading! Love the display , will it output dsd with sacd so can use with other DACs Anthony ?
Specs say it has I2S using HDMI.... so if you have a DAC that can handle I2S using HDMI and that is also configurable (sadly, I2S pin outs do not have an industry standard), then you should be able to get DSD layer through an external DAC !
@@ptg01 I thought I saw somewhere it might be a proprietary implementation I appreciate it will connect to a metronome dac but wondered about a denaprios etc yes no industry standard is a bugger
Metronome is what use for cd . I love it, but I run it through my Denafrips dac. So I only use it as a transport and I never tried the dac. How it sound

Alan Loveday made fine recordings of the Grieg sonatas and the Beethoven concerto released on Saga. He was a fine violinist and musician.
I need to go record shopping with Jim! I’m lucky if any of my local charity shops (in Norfolk, UK) even have any records.
I’ve done really well with 70’s EMIs and Deccas in/around North London charity shops, but it’s getting more difficult, and the prices are going up.
I was fortunate to buy this record at retail and completely agree with you. English, Scottish, and Cornish Dances on Lyrita is quite wonderful too.

While I am sitting here cleaning some records and listening to a LP (Handel - Orgelkonzerte pressed by Meister Der Musik/Decca) I just wanted to thank you both for educating me on Classical music, titles to look for and the labels to collect.
@@drunkenskelator thank you for the kind words. Have a wonderful evening
I listened to a Naia today with the Rega Cartridge. Very nice, takes the traditional Rega strengths and amplifies them. Great prat as expected, very well organized. A little polite, but the cart is not broken in yet. Interesting that my ref is the Pure Fidelity also and I am sticking with it as well.
@@thomascollins7932 the NAIA runs it close in many ways but too many Regaisms hinder a busy reviewer. Plus, the PF with the upgraded OL Enterprise MK4 tonearm is tough to beat.
Enjoying this channel since I first joined for John Devore interview. Time Records: Carmen McRae Live at Sugar Hill is a terrific performance, well recorded. Mono: if you don’t have a mono cart, a phono stage with a mono switch greatly improves mono sound from a stereo cartridge.
I love you guys Degritter/Humming guru...I use a cloth with Isopropyl alcohol. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 They sound awesome.
Scott 'I'm Shocked, shocked...Well not really' 😃
I have been enjoying the AT VM540 ML - great top end but, realising its limitations in dynamics / heft/ power / weight of sound ( I'm not sure of the technical term) etc I have ordered a Lyra Delos...but one has to be patient because demand is outstripping supply..at the moment
@@w1nchester32 let us know how you like it. Cheers
Curiously poor sound quality on the commentary...
@@jimsimon5706 absolutely. Was experimenting with mic/room placement, and the opening was not good. Since you commented so politely, I answered. Too many people are just plain rude. Sound improvement is a continuous journey around here. Thx again.
@@AudiophiliaChannel I am a polite person I like to think. I watched through your video and of course the quality improved! So, I should have listened further before jumping in, so I apologise for that. To get to the reason I was interested - I have a Decca FFSS mki cartridge on its Decca mki arm, and I am blown away by the sound. So immediate and live-sounding, with incredible dynamics. However, whilst it is remarkable that a cartridge that's getting on for...hang on...70 years old as far as its design is concerned, and this cartridge was re-tipped and serviced 50 years ago, sounds at all good, it does worry me on two counts. Firstly, is it going to be a sustainable source for me, and secondly, what is it that, however good it is, I am missing out on compared to what I might be able to achieve with modern designs. I am aware of Soundsmith cartridges which seem to me to, perhaps, share the concept with Deccas of old. Have you heard either the Deccs FFSS or Soundsmith cartridges? I am on something of a mission with this as I have a nice, dynamic system and find I'm listening to more and more of my records now that the Decca is with me. I have a Garrard 301, and Audio Note amp and Tannoy 15" Golds which all add up to quite a lively and lifelike dynamic sound. I was a sound engineer, more live sound than recording, so I like to think I know good sound. Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks. Jim.
@@jimsimon5706 no need to apologize. All good. Peter Ledermann at Soundsmith is a wizard at retipping. Our reviewers have had great success with his own carts. Decca! Now you’re talking, but very, very tricky to setup and dial in. But once done, as you say, crazy immediacy. I love the whole Decca thing. Enjoy. Cheers, Anthony
I did buy a used Clearaudio Goldfinger, I guess it is even above the Titan, at least in price so I guess it sounds a little bit better. Totally HAPPY with it when the vinyl is PERFECT but if not this cartridge can drive you crazy, it is really revealing of any noise, it forces you to find records in perfect condition. So I wonder, is there anything out there that sounds as and as good as the Goldfinger and isn´t that revealing on "dirt" in the grooves? I can listen very loud, no limits there because no neighbors and I mainly listen to Pop/Rock/Metal from 70s and 80s
@@77MovieFan try to listen to an Air Tight in that price range. Magnificent. Also the new Phasemation top cart is in$ane.
@@AudiophiliaChannel OK thanks, I will look them up It is so difficult to find infos on this because not that many have listened to the Goldfinger, or know the Goldfinger and not many others. Because it was so expensive I always think Clearaudio did something real special with it and not just uppen the price. I guess in their lineup it is easy to say that most likely this is the best they can do. But how it will keep up against others in same price ranges and even way cheaper will be the big question, maybe it really was just totally overpriced. I will find out
I use an Ortofon TA-210 so I can easily swap cartridges for each situation. I have the Orto 2M Mono you put up but when it was supplied ready mounted - so only VTF requires changing from my SPU - GME MC cartridge - and I second your reviewers choice on this cart. Of course, if you play mono many of those are old enough to not be RIAA. So I got the MM because I use the Graham Slee Jazz Club to play those old curves especially Decca FFRR - makes a massive difference - I have a 2m Blue and it is great with poorer condition records and 45's which I use it for.
Those better produce the artist in my home when I play the record.
The sound quality of the vocal commentary is execrable. I guess you are deaf.
The Mahler session was separately recorded by Jerry Bruck and recently released on CD by High Definition Tape Transfers. Sounds fabulous and reportedly better than the different Unicorn recording of the same session.
Hello New to this channel so getting caught up on past videos. Thank you for this listing of Living Presence titles! I am late to the table on Living Presence but in the past month I have found a little honey pot of them and now have over a dozen of them. Unfortunately about 2/3 of them are Mono but all of them in great sounding condition. I suspect these came from a single collection as I have also picked up some great Living Stereo titles as well.
@@drunkenskelator congratulations and welcome.
I am sorry I missed this livestream again.. Catch you all later..🙏🏻
I would agree with your assessment of Rega-isms and for a reviewer dealing with shims and not being able to change cables would be a nightmare. I enjoyed my time with Rega and the tweaks that I did on my p3-24 when I owned it with groove tracer tweaks. My question for you is outside of the Rega issues and pound for pound putting your reviewer’s hat on does the NAIA with that cartridge that was on it sound better than that beautiful wooden reference of yours that you showed in the video in bass, treble, midrange, and prat or is it just different?

I am happy to spend. 30 or sometimes even more for a new record. They are worth it. Never saw one selling for 5 Euro not even at a flee market. When they are looking like trash than you might find them cheap otherwise no way. We in Germany seem to know good stuff and we gladly pay for it. But they did sell for cheap 5 or 10 years ago here, too. If that is still the case in Canada lucky you 😅
