I was lucky my mother was heavily into classical music and living in Northern England the Town Hall had a concert hall inside it so there were eight classical concerts per year in the town hall and when I was old enough I accompanied my mother to all the concerts The neighbouring town which was smaller had four concerts per year and we went to those too. So I got a lot of classical music growing up. I listened to pop music too - I was 14 in 1976 - the year punk rock hit so I listened to classical music and punk and its descendants and still do. Introducing folks to music of all sorts is a very positive act of generosity when I started to branch out in my musical exploration Vivaldi was just being rediscovered so I got into Baroque music and then I discovered Monteverdi and the operas he wrote L'Orfeo is one of the earliest extant operas we have and it is still performed. I also discovered twelve tone music Schoenberg and the very eccentric Charles Ives and I love their work.

A lot of people think of classical music as sit-down-and-listen-at-a-concert music, and in a lot of modern cases it is exactly that - but some very notable classical music (like Blue Danube) was dance music that people really danced to when it was fresh and new. There are still places around the world that hosts various kinds of dances, but you will have to seek them out. A great way to get a prospective date out of their comfort zone and have a lot of fun.

Missed one. At one point in the movie, while in Vietnam, Forrest mentions that ‘one day it started raining, and it didn’t quit for 4 months’.
