Abstract:
A spaceplate is a plate of thickness 𝑑 that is designed to introduce the same optical transformation as an empty region of space of length 𝑑𝑒𝑓𝑓≫𝑑 . That is, the spaceplate squeezes the effect of the propagation of light into a thin plate. Propagation is an implicit optical element in many, if not most, optical systems. Excellent. I've been through a hundred videos on polarization and this is the most thorough and complete, and doesn't gloss over key principles.
Thank you. Most of the articles on this meta-material endeavor use terms like "shrink the optics system" & 'Pocket telescope', rather than a less misleading & more informative phrase like 'shorten the light path'. re 14:30 This does not account for the loss of orthogonality of the interferometer. re.11:15 I want a light weight space plate for the distance from the star(let) to the t'scope! ;-) ... Actually I want to fit my 22" Dobsonian into a briefcase or backpack. :-)
This is going to help me on my thesis so much! Its not even funny! I had no idea this existed
