I remember this commercial. My daughter was little at the time and when the lady said, ' You're dusting my house again,' my daughter would say, ' well, it needed it.'
They didn't regret it afaik, there's actually some history behind their not great deal with Warner Bros., where they don't get any licensing royalties from the original recordings, so the only way to get paid for their old songs now is to re-record them. They've never been a band ashamed to shill out or anything. There was the Honda Scooters ad, the Pioneer Laserdisc demo, and so on. Mark has scored a ton of commercials, including one for Hawaiian Punch and those Get a Mac commercials.
@@stapler942 They actually viewed it as letting “Big Brother” promote them to the very people “It” was trying to keep from being exposed to a band like Devo.
Yes that's really Devo, and they were appropriately ashamed of themselves afterward. One of the members (Jerry Casale) said of the commercial: "It's just aesthetically offensive. It's got everything a commercial you hate has."
All due respect to Devo, I must disagree with this stance. If anything, it made both commercials hilarious! Granted, it's no replacement for Whip It, but then again, what is?
According to Wikipedia, the members of Devo collectively agree that performing this parody of their own song for these commercials was one of the worst decisions they ever made. Personally, I don't see how this commercial is particularly bad.
If only swifter mops worked. But no they suck. Entertaining commercials.
Best commercial ever made
This commercial is over 20 years old. Those goth kids are almost the mom's age by now.
S W I F F I T
And now, Devo is back, with the Doritos Dips commercial!
I remember seeing the original to this a long time ago.
Me whenever I see a jumpscare in Outlast.
I vaguely remember this
0:24 Says the woman with a TV screen so covered in dust that Vaseline would provide a clearer picture
I can't help but hate this and I hate Devo for it.
This is hard to swallow.
Whip it? Never heard that song before. But this right here, I’ve been listening to this for years. Lmao
Beth your dusting my house again.
I hope it's not genetic
Yeah.
At least this model is smoking hot.
better than smokin'...CRACK!
My girlfriend had never heard "Whip It." When I had her listen to it she could only sing these lyrics. Devo is ruined for all time for me.
😂😂😂
Your girlfriend is a keeper. Never let her go.
real dishwasher
Oddly enough, that's actually Devo performing the Swiffer version.
@@DoubleM-hf6ih I should have known then and there that she wasn't for me, we broke up shorty after this.

This isn’t funny, because you’d be dead if your ❤️ literally stopped.
I don’t understand what you mean?
No shit!
I always wonder how much it cost them to license this
ALWAYS???!
Here 2021

They completely regret it

Because it played well into the idea of sociocultural de-evolution that was the fundamental ideology of the band's music?

By far not the worst commercial I've ever seen. But close.

my favorite Swiffer wet jet commercial
Very funny!
Her: "You're dusting my house again." Me: "That'll be $40."
For the dance performance while dusting, the $40 is even more necessary.
😂
Is that Weird AL singing?
No; DEVO actually did the special version of Whip It for the commercial themselves.
No, that's Devo (the band who sang "Whip It")
James Lampert Mark Mothersbaugh to be exact
@@jonmcintyre1144 I recall him saying that in retrospect he regretted doing it.
