Been watching your videos here and there for the past couple of months, and I've been really enjoying your dives into Armored Core and other sci-fi. Now normally, I'd say that your opening here was too harsh. The problem is, I absolutely agree with everything you said and I'm tired of other channels keeping their analysis at the level of a middle schooler's book report. I hope that your channel, and others like it, will inspire more channels that aim for deeper discussions on what make our favorite stories special. There's clearly a market for it - I had watched another AC6 video essay some time ago which tried to express similar thematic touchstones (that is, the incomprehensible breadth of hyper objects to the human mind), but was held back by a very surface-level understanding of the series' writing. I hope that writer will see your essay, have some validation for being on the right track, and be encouraged to dig deeper!

I really don't think another more complete analysis of Gundam can ever be made at this point. This was definitive in every sense of the word. Well done.

Such a good video... every once in a while the algorithm gets it right, because I love YMS' Kimba video and I just last week watched Atun-Shei's Atlantis video that you referenced. I sort of wish this video had been more tightly focused on a comparison between the two different versions of the Atlantis story (and on calling out the people who automatically assume Disney IP theft without actually watching the material they're "defending"), but you give great background that makes the watch ultimately very worthwhile.

Who is this directed towards? Real fans of Gundam already knew all this and that robot shows existed before Gundam. Gundam just took aspects of those prior different shows and mostly started the real robot genre. We know this. What kind of people have you came across saying they were fans of Gundam and don’t know this stuff? Basic knowledge in the community.

I tried watching this on Netflix but it was like watching a super long recap episode that was deliberately cut but someone that didn't want to rewatch anything that could almost explain what happened inbetween. It was so bad that I realized I wasn't paying attention anymore and turned it off. I'm a huge Non-UC Gundam fan. I spent most of last month binge watching G-Witch cause it blew my mind and my all time favorite Gundam season is Season 2 of 00. All that to day everything I know about UC I've learned on RUclips, hopefully this video will bridge the gap.

New Gundam fan here (As in only finished 2 shows new) . I watched this literally just after finishing 0078 and this is absolutely FANTASTIC! This honestly had everything I truly wanted. In depth analysis of the overall story, history, Behind the scenes details and clarification. Just all of it. I already liked the series after finishing it but this video has made me respect the show more than ever expected Truly INCREDIBLE!❤❤❤

It's kind of funny because I love Okawara's designs (obviously) and especially the wierd inhuman and maybe slightly silly ones, and hate all the Battlemech designs except maybe the urbanmech (I wonder if that's a stolen design? IDK). Battletech stole cool design ideas from Dougram and Macross, kept the bad stuff like exposed glass cockpits, and fucked the line art for their redesigns meaning battletech was doomed to almost every design being arkward, badly proportioned and really ugly. No, that's not it, I think the issue is western mecha design is based on the star wars mechs, making everything look like the ATST and ATAT. The western redesigners butchered the stolen designs so they fit into the clunky stop motion style when these designs just don't work like the ATST. Also I know its an unpopular opinion but I think Katoki gets way too much hate. What he has done for the models especially is insane with his internal mechanics, like its the little things like maybe the Guntank redesign which you wouldn't even notice is different but is just so much better realized. I even think the Unicorn looks great (until it goes into destroy mode). Yeah yeah long legs but every designer has stuff like that like haha Kondo big skirt. He is not the most original though and I think thats why people don't like him.

eight minutes into this vid, and i'm clapping like a seal. love the relaxing tone and the wonderful willy - i typed 'silly', but we shall keep this typo - naming (edit: of species) and the comforting naming of art as a type of virus life. one can always be sure that your videos and the love put into them will be outstanding as always.

I'm willing to ignore leaving out some bits of mecha history that don't fit into the narrative here for the frankly galaxy brain take of art functioning equivalent to viral lifeforms. I don't agree with everything, but this is a very good video that I will be sharing around.

The gundam design by Okawara is maybe blocky, but some of Yasuhiko's drawings in the show really gave him more anatomical, organic qualities
