Great being able to watch when i cant go up. I'm by no means looking for your "spot" but could you mention what you're fishing i.e. the east or west branch of the Keag, or near the confluence of Babcock or Skagrock etc... ??
@@727xer we fished the East branch, and the outlet of the West branch that day
Thanks, I was pretty sure that's where you were. I don't have much time on the East, camps are on the West and the main below the 2a bridge. Heard there was some overflow salmon from the lake, but have never gotten onto them.... Renewed Interest!! 😁 Cheers!
It’s July right now but I’m ready to ice fish!
@@207ice2woods easy bud! We’ve got big bucks to hunt first
@@Haynesvilleguide this is true hahah
Is Fort kent a good area to try fly fishing for trout, or would you recommend somewhere else?
@@tylerlachance7796 I know guys that do very well in that area
@@Haynesvilleguide What kind of rigs and fly patterns work well for that area?
Nice buck. We're not far from where that store is. Decent food there if you like 🍕 and stuff like that. Good luck this fall.
@@BLAM777 I’m in there quite a bit. They have it up for sale now
@Haynesvilleguide we were just up there through the 4th. Didn't know it was for sale. I like the owner. Nice guy.
Sorry for the loss. You will find a replacement. Patches had a great dad. She’s howling now listen to this.
I’m sure one of his pups will fill his shoes
Thats sad you lost your dog! I know how it feels! The other dogs are doing great! Thank you for sharing my friend!!
I’m sorry to hear about Grizzly
@@phillipgiampa7441 thanks Phil
Free labor for your deer skill training, plus I'm sure I will learn alot more!!!
Could I come up sometime, help out, pick your brain about being a better dear hunter?
@@crowtubecrozier2857 we’ll have to get you up here sometime. Maybe you can swing through on your way back from moose scouting sometime and we’ll figure something out
Omg!!! GRIZZ is past on??? I'm so sorry to hear this news. What a great hunter he was. Dang! SO sorry buddy.
R.I.P. Grizzly. Trust me as a fellow Houndsman in the sleep is the BEST. I lost my #1 best dog ever that way. The others have always been way more difficult doing the deed.
Sorry to hear about Grizzly - the hounds really tug at the heart with their unique personalities and such.
That’s a whopper of a Maine moose!
@@baraksinz2937 he’s a good one
Good luck on your moose hunts this year. I truly wish you the best.
Where's this ?
Any chance we could Hire you for this 2024 moose hunt? District 1. Guided, and shelter, and food? I fallow you for a while now. Love your channel, and would love to meet you as well. I will be filming this moose hunt,I'm also the second shooter.
I appreciate the support and wish I could help, but zone 1 isn’t one of my specialties. I’m quite a ways from there and haven’t spent much time in that area. I’ve got a zone 5, and a zone 10 hunt in October Aaron and I are planning to do. I’ve done a few zone 2 hunts, but that’s a haul from Haynesville too.
Thank you buddy for getting back to me. I really want to meet you some time. I love fallowing your channel.
Love the content and the videos are great. Im just starting out on youtube my self. I subscribed to your channel i live in mattawamkeag and fish some of the same water. Well good luck fishing tight lines.
Maybe we can hook up sometime and do some fishing. I’ll check your channel out and give you a sub too
😁😁😁👍
Awesome
Looks stunning and peaceful
You didn't get skunked. That is easy to do on Grand. I have fished there many times without getting skunked. I employed 2 methods of fishing. Repeating what has worked in the past and experimenting with the new. Many times, our new methods are merely repeating what has worked in the past. That is not new. Either the fish are there but not taking what you are offering, or they are somewhere else. Before the day of powered sleds, augers and fish finders, when it was much colder and the walk much longer, and our family depended upon us to bring home supper, our skills were more heightened, and we were more in tune with the wild. And when all that failed, it was time to pray.
Them salmon like to air it out there a true game fish.
Get your Grey Wulff Ready lol
heading to Coos Canion Friday. Break in for the new camper. I'll be up there the end of July. NEW HIP ON WEDNESDAY 😀
Good luck!
Congratulations
Awesome Steve 🎏🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸🎏 The Vermonter
It surely did start early this year for the trout and salmon. At least we got a few
Do landlocked salmon taste any different then salmon that mature at sea? I imagine the meat taste more like freshwater fish, which to me is less desirable, but still prob going to filet that fish (if legal sized)
They taste different, but I sure enjoy them from time to time
Looks like a nice day out there bud. Feeding any black flies?
The black flies weren’t bad at all this spring. Must’ve been the dry weather. The deer flies and mosquitoes are feeding pretty good though!
I had to move onto bass etc We are being hit with a wicked dry spell. a lot of dead water out there. Hoping for a bit of rain this weekend.
It was bass, white perch, and chubs until about 6. The colder water coming out of the lake is the only thing saving me now, but it’s early mornings or just before dark
@@Haynesvilleguide Yeah my last trout was late in the evening when it calmed down and the bugs were at their best.
Have you ever fished Skagrock?
It’s been years since I have, but yes I’ve fished it
Great video. Love Maine
i just bought an off road off grid camper. heading your way. I would love to hook up and do a couple days fishing.
Let me know when you’re around!
@@Haynesvilleguide will do
Sad to hear flows(edit) are low and temps are high…most of the water here in the western Maine mountains, temps are mid to low 50s, plenty of water. 🤙🤜
Another great video Steve. Thanks for sharing the water and trout with me.
Hopefully we get another good day next week
Beautiful
How are the water temps with the early spring? Are you seeing typical mid-June temps already?
Yes I am. The trout have slowed right down. We need some rain soon or it’ll be over quick
wooh that is a lot of fish for that pool and a bass and lamprey attached. nice to hear about the fly choices at the end. Fished a local trout water with my daughter and it was bust for most of the time, as things closed down I switched to another fly, a mock of a mayfly and first cast they took it, and no hatch was on, so I hadn't tried it, about 5 flies later I found one that worked. Some days and spots it seems to be all about line management in tight streams with a bit of wind. My daughter was on garden hackle and came away with a nice 12" trout. Are these stocked salmon?
Most of these salmon are stocked. The brook trout are slowing down as the water drops and temps rise
@@Haynesvilleguide Water is getting wicked low down here.
Nicely done Olde boy
They wanted to get caught that day
Hey Steve! To you and your buddy awesome day on the water guys! Awesome footage to boot 🎏 Hey Steve your buddy needs a net 👍 Good Luck too all on the water 👍 The Vermonter BS
He forgot his net back at the truck but thought it wouldn’t be a big deal. He said he was wrong 🤣
What ammo and grain bullet did you use?
Remington core lokt 180 grain
I used to fish the west branch of the Penobscot this time of year for landlocks. They might be the best fighting freshwater fish pound for pound.
Smallmouth may give them a run for the money, but they’re accidents anyway
Hello, we like your videos very much and would like to cooperate with you. Is there any chance we can discuss this in detail?
Looks like an amazing day.
Great looking stretch of water 🎣 What were you catching them on?
Elk hair caddis!
Caddis almost always work🎣
We know that spot! Looking good Steve!
You’ve seen it with much more water! Hope you’re slaying them Earle!
Awesome Steve! Nothing like Catching the leapers 👍🎏👍 The Vermonter Bert Saldi
Nice calm day, more birds than you can count singing in the woods, and plenty of fish. You'll both remember that one for a long time. Glad to see you out there
Awesome video! That POV of the dry fly bite was great! Can you make a video of the flies you use? I am very new to fly fishing and I am trying to learn as fast as I can. Thank you!
I can do that. We were using tungsten head stoneflies and maple syrup’s for nymphs, and elk hair caddis, Adams, and light Hendricksons for dries
Wow thank you for sharing that my man! I just went up to the east outlet of Moosehead last week fly fishing and probably going to a new spot this weekend , just started to fly fish acouple months ago and talked to an OL timer and said try a red and yellow streamer or a red and white streamer, didn’t have much luck with either of those but maybe I’ll pick some of your suggestions up and give them a shot! Appreciate it
@@scottbuck9348 the Mickey Finn (yellow and red) and the red and white work good for me early in the season, but this time of year their diet is mainly insects, so nymphs work best for me. I appreciate you watching!
That was epic! Beautiful trout and plenty of them. I've fly fished northern Maine a long time and had very few days like that.
