Hi there! What kind of keyboard do you have now and how willing are you to mod it?

I was also thinking it would be great to have keycaps that are silicone like since my nails slip on my keyboards. I’m willing to buy any keyboard and put in switches and key caps since that looks pretty easy 😁 Any recommendations would be amazing!

You might not enjoy silicone as much as you think, because they are dust magnets and things tend to stick in between the caps. They're also not "truly" silicone, as it's typically plastic keycaps with a silicone cover. They're not as great as I thought they'd be, tbh...You might instead, want to opt for a profile with a wider surface area, like MDA profile keycaps. These usually have a larger surface with rounded edges and feel fairly comfortable to type on. Are you looking into 100% because of the numpad requirement? I deal with a lot of spreadsheets at work and I like having a separate numpad for when I need to type lots of numbers, but otherwise a 65% layout is the most comfortable for your sitting position. (longer keyboards force you to sit at a wider stance, which is ergonomically less comfortable). Thoughts?

thank you for the tips, MDA profile sounds great! Seems like the keys might be lower too? Think lower would be helpful for key accuracy too since on laptop keyboards I don’t slip. As for the 100% layout, I work in finance and use excel and ppt shortcuts all day so I’m used to having the home, del, page up and down buttons in that middle area. Would have to relearn the shortcut key positioning with a smaller layout 😭 one minor thing if you happen to have any keyboards/parts in mind is, I would love if the keyboard could be white or light pink 😊😊 thanks again for the thoughts

Your creamy banana split switches sounds amazing but I would prioritize key accuracy, layout, and color, as long as the sound is not too loud as I’ll be using it in the office. Under $300 would be awesome as well-understand nice keyboard are an investment! Please do let me know if you have anything in mind and I’m more than happy to use any of your codes as well 🙏🏻

How familiar are you with via? You'll need the right json file for the board that you have. You can find the json files for the different versions here: www.qwertykeys.com/pages/fw. We can go into detail if you need more help

I think you can do with less...or use things around the house to mod a 20 dollar board, like pillow stuffing, old mouse pads, etc. The lube might be the main thing that you can't substitute.

I personally like MDA profile keycaps - they're typically thicker than cherries or OEMs and have a bit more space underneath for good sound resonance. Basically, larger profiles = better thock...but you still need it to be at a comfortable height for your style of typing. :)

The version that I have isn't magnetic so I can't say for sure, but bad magnetic switches are unsatisfying to play on

I've had good experiences with the Aklo lavender...I think their "hand lubed" lavenders that you can buy from them are really solid switches that sound good and types well

@@savagegaming6788 I got about 8-10 days with RGB running on 2.4ghz; bluetooth should last a bit longer, and you might get up to a month if you keep RGB off and running on bluetooth.

Are you planning on gaming with it? Dongle isn't going to be as fast as wired, and if you don't care latency, then Bluetooth works just fine

oh then you'll want the v10 max then as it has wireless options. The Jupiter switches are pretty decent too, it'll sound a bit clackier than the Keychron K series switches.

You could try to find a Leobog hi75 prebuilt for under 100, and it'll be one of the creamiest you'll own

You have to use a prying tool to pop up the tabs holding the top and bottom case together. I usually use a tool by a brand called jimmy ifixit amzn.to/4cEAF7d
