    So let me get this straight - fusion is just as dangerous as fission, and requires massiveamounts of energy to power it… and that energy comes from… a nuclear fission reactor? Of course! What else?

    A very good explanation. Now on to a different thought, why go to fusion at all? How about instead we build accelerator driven subcritical thorium reactor. There size does not really matter, in fact, it would be possible to build one small enough to power the average passenger car.

The fossil fuel industry continuing to spend hundreds of millions on R&D to reduce Carbon footprint while still producing much needed energy over wind and solar to this day is nothing? EPA? Green peace? Every activist and organization in the whole world that advocates for anti deforestation in the Amazon? Climatologists that push the narrative for an extinction even involving climate change in the near future? The 99 percent of scientists believe climate change is a real problem narrative? All this is “nothing”? Bullshit. This video offers nothing, absolutely nothing except fear mongering and rhetoric.

    • @climateinsiders

      Totally get your frustration. Yeah, there’s a lot being done-gas taxes, EV rebates, fossil fuel companies trying to clean up their act, and tons of activists and scientists working on it. It’s not like nothing is happening. But maybe the video is just trying to push for even more action because the issue is so massive. It’s a tricky balance between recognizing progress and pushing for more.

    • @bmarra14
      @bmarra14 6 дней назад

      @@climateinsiders there has never been a “massive” problem. There still continues to not be enough empirical evidence to suggest that global climate change is an extinction event and that humans must significantly alter how they obtain their energy and production of energy so that this extinction will not happen. At least in the US, most electricity is produced and distributed by private utilities, so any energy project has to be justified to investors looking for a nice steady dividend every quarter. The Navy doesn't have to turn a profit, or even break even.

    If you go for D + T you have to get this T from somewhere. Preferably produce it onsite using fusion neutrons, right? Now, to capture all fusion neutrons, you need lithium blanket, which must be thick enough. Say half a meter thick... If you go for no-neutron reaction, it demands even harsher conditions than DT and fancy fuel (He-3). Life's hard.

    • @climateinsiders
      @climateinsiders 13 дней назад

      Great point! Fusion definitely isn't easy. Using D + T means needing a source of T, ideally produced on-site with fusion neutrons, requiring a substantial lithium blanket. And yeah, no-neutron reactions like He-3 demand even tougher conditions and fancy fuel. Fusion's potential is huge, but the challenges are real. Life's hard, but the breakthroughs will be worth it!
