Using a PLC and a HMI to control nitrous oxide in my C4 Corvette
Просмотров 97Год назад
Just me being nerdy on a Sunday. I programmed a PLC and an HMI to monitor my nitrous system. It checks front and rear wheel speed, bottle pressure, bottle temp and line pressure. It can run my purge solenoid and sends the signal to the Holley ECU letting it know that all parameters are met. It also gives me simple and easy to read info.

      I would keep the C4 and swap it. Rock Auto sells the Bilstein performance shocks for a good price if you don't want to go coil over. Honestly you could LS swap one of these cars and do a nice budget suspension and be faster than a C5 for a lot less

    You're certainly the keeper of the flame when it comes to hot rodding a C4. I just got a 1984 black auto vette that runs and drives for 2500 bucks. This is the perfect solution for a smog controlled junk powertrain. i love rowing gears but you cut it down to size, in large theyre all autos till about '89, no matter what the 84 will have a dana 36. I wished you had the go pro because this would have 100k's of views. This really sheds light on how much our engines have evolved and what we take for granted, it will be a tough moment for me to modify an incredibly preserved vette with just 82k miles...but it's for the best. I've owned over a dozen TBI vehicles from 1984-1995 and they all suck, but this is the worst, the single TBI L89 is a reliable unit but this cross fire is horrific, like trying to balance 3 carbs on a 3 cyl snowmobile or pwc, the Million dollar question is...what preserves the cars value, because one day, 1 couple million people will realize the 84 was the best seller year and only about 55K were produced...then where does the price go! We don't want to butcher these cars, i think you've found a solid middle ground and to that, I say CHEERS!!! To LS swap and beyond!

Do the swap run the hell out of it till it dies then get a long block from summit .

    trying to install by LS1. I have it connected to a 4L60e and have a couple of questions if you can help. What engine mounts did you use? I have the ICT brackets but can seem to find a good mount that will fit the C4. I need to move the block forward about a half inch to keep the heads from hitting the firewall. Second, what kind of linkage did you use for your transmission? Will the stock shifter work, or do I need to find an aftermarket shifter? Thanks for your help and advice.

    • @chadk6938
      @chadk6938 Год назад

      I used cheap steel motor mount adapter plates that I got on eBay. First I tried a nice aluminum set be they were just too thick and wouldn't line up. But as far as a brand name I can't help. I would suggest looking for a steel set with lots of holes so you have options as to where it mounts. As for shift linkage I used a B&M ratchet shifter. I never tried to use the stock shifter. I'm sure it could be done. But you might have to fab a bracket.

    I have the same PCV setup on my 99 corvette bc the previous owner deleted it and just had it venting to atmosphere. However, I put a one way check valve on my clean air in and on my dirty side (so the system can’t reverse). Now I’m questioning if I should take that check valves out if the system is trying to reverse at high rpm and building pressure. I don’t what to blow seals out at high rpm. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it if f you have time. I’m just running a big cam.

    • @chadk6938
      @chadk6938 Год назад

      Well if you think about it all the older PCV systems were just check valves. But my only concern with what you have now would be if it can move enough volume at high rpm. This is what my issue was. That tiny little PCV just couldn't keep up and the gas had to go somewhere. So mine was coming out the filter. If I were you I wouldn't run a check valve on the clean side. But I would just use a catch can

    • @YoJoe-t5f
      @YoJoe-t5f Год назад

      @@chadk6938 I think you’re right, it’s probably not a good idea to run it on the clean side also. I think I’m going to do an experiment and setup a vacuum gauge inline (at the clean side, then dirty side) and see what exactly it’s doing at low and high rpm. With and with out the check valves. I’m really curious now after seeing what yours was doing. Also, I want to avoid over vacuuming and pulling air through the main seals. Thanks for giving it a thought, I appreciate it.
