I made this takedown Bowie for a friend of mine. He gave me a deer antler shed and said ,” make me a big rustic Bowie”. This is what I came up with. He was very pleased.
It is 80crv2 just shy of 10in. It’s pretty thin and light although the hammered and hot fit S guard finishes in linseed oil adds some weight. One spacer is mild steel with 2 coats of plum brown. The other is mokume from quarters. The toggle style tang has a flange nut securing the handle and a .30-06 cartridge capping it all off.

Adjust steering wheel, centering after Lift Kit #Jeep #Wrangler #JKU #4x4 #4WD #offroad #MallCrawler
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.2 года назад
After installing an #ironrockoffroad 2.5” lift kit on my Jeep Wrangler JKU , I had to center the steering wheel. This is a technique I use to get it centered the first time without checking and rechecking if I’ve gone too far or not far enough. Just a little setup-time to tape the leads on. Takes about a minute. Then adjust one time and done.

Fixing a Peter Wright post leg blacksmith vise part 1, the problem
Просмотров 312 года назад
After mounting the vise and using it a bit, I decided to deal with the loose lead screw washer. It seemed as though the collar had broken off of the washer cup, which wouldn’t support it and allowed to to become loose and misaligned during operation. Without knowing what it looked like as designed, and seeing so many variations in researching, I just decided to fix it how I thought it should be.
Fixing a Peter Wright post leg blacksmith vise part 2, the solution.

I wanted to use the original washer because it was period correct and already had the good mating surface tj the lead screw. Found an old piece of bearing and welded it, machined it and then some hand fitting with files so it would fit. I’m pretty pleased with the outcome.

1950 Ford Tudor 8ba V8 flathead timing issue

Having some fun discovering how to shoot some video and some basic editing. Working through all those quality issues, thanks for being patient. After removing all the electrical etc while doing motor work to replace a valve, car wouldn’t start. Previous owner had car running as 6v negative ground, including running the coil wires backwards. I wired up the car back to 6v positive ground, but did...

    How in the world did you drill the cross holes?????? I'm guessing from the outside and through the connector fitting before tapping. Just getting ready to do this AND I'M CONFUSED. Thanks

      @betterthanbroken8617 2 месяца назад

      @@alandust2188 you are correct. I can’t remember the sizes of the holes I drilled though. Basically one large hole straight in from the front bump and go in towards the two bores but stop before you break though. Use that hole to allow the smaller drill bit access at an angle into each of the bores. Then thread the main hole for the fitting.

    Where is your distributor vacuum? Where you are showing your wiper vacuum is where my distributor vacuum is locate. This is on a 1950 8A Flathead. ALSO- IS THE SPACER 1" THICK?

      I sold the car so I do t have a reference anymore. Yes I believe the spacer was about 1”. The distributor vacuum line was plumbed to the carburetor. Some of the Holley 94s may or may not have that port. Best of luck with your project.

    I got an original 8 BA carb at a garage sale and I don’t know how much it’s worth. Decent condition and could be cleaned up real well. Any ideas?

    • @betterthanbroken8617
      @betterthanbroken8617 8 месяцев назад

      I’d say not worth all that much as is. There is a guy that sells original ‘remanufactured’ units that are quite a bit more expensive than the Chinese replacements. A rebuild kit doesn’t cost that much, and they are easy to rebuild.

    How is the ride now?

    • @betterthanbroken8617
      @betterthanbroken8617 8 месяцев назад

      Ride unloaded isn’t any better really. The most improvement is the tongue weight. Helps to keep the suspension a little more level. But with the x31 package and the rough country shocks, this thing handles pretty sloppy. In stock trim, Front floats and rear hammers pretty hard. Next upgrade will be some Bilsteins to try to even it out a bit.

    I was in this same situation, then at a friend's recommendation, I purchased an Air Hammer. After soaking both ends of the Torsion Bars overnight, using 120 PSI from my Air Compressor connected to the Air Hammer, 10 seconds a side on the Torsion Bars from the rear and both keys were out.

    Hi. Is there a good full body kit that allows you to lower close to the ground for easy access (just found out I may have MS and now walking has become difficult and I have to use a walker) Then easy it raises back to good riding heights. Thanks for any information you may have.

    Hi. I'm about to install the Artec truss on my Dana 30 and wondering if the pinion seal melted during the process of heating up the differential, and is the reason you're replacing it. Thanks.

      Not sure. I pulled it out, did a ring and pinion set while I was doing the truss. But I would think there is a good chance it would. I always install new seals.

    Save yourself a lot of time and cussing and get a $15 air hammer from harbor freight. It will drive the most stubborn bar out. Also handy for axles and wheel bearings.

    Just wanted to give an update. This method WORKED for me on both the passenger and driver sides. I didn't attempt to drill the keys until I was confident the torsion bars were loose in the lower control arm. After drilling the holes and chiseling as much material out as possible, I still had to add some heat and I put the torsion bar removal tool back on and cranked on it putting as much stress on it as I could, then releasing it. This combination made it so I could hit the torsion keys out easily. Thanks for the video, I don't think I would have got these off otherwise.

  • @quiznosbest
    @quiznosbest 3 года назад

    Just checking that you didn’t have any problems getting the second torsion key off. I’m in the same situation. I have hammered on this for over two hours, I’ve had an air hammer and heat. I’m going to keep going for another hour but if not I want to try this method. Before that. I just wanted to make sure there were no other issues. Thanks

    • @betterthanbroken8617
      @betterthanbroken8617 3 года назад

      Valid question. I did this on both sides. One side I hammered about 20 times. The other was quite a bit more. I think the difference was the spacing of the holes. The side where the 2 holes overlapped more, I had to hammer more. If I were to do it again, I’d drill bigger holes to get more material out.

    I am in the process of doing this now on my 2005 Silverado. How were you able to get the new key in? Were you able to move the torsion bar forward towards the front of the truck? The torsion bar is badly rusted into the control arm on my truck and I am afraid I won't be able to move the torsion bar forward enough to allow me to put the new key in. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    • @betterthanbroken8617
      @betterthanbroken8617 4 года назад

      Mine wasn’t rusted in the control arm. If you spray some on blaster in there, a Couple Hits with a good hammer should loosen it enough to get the key in. Hope this helps. And good luck!

    • @jay12035

      @@marknumerounogoog Yeah I had to unbolt the crossmember and keep pulling and twisting towards the rear of the truck to get it to free at the control arms. the crossmember kept hitting the evap stuff in font of the gas tank on the driverside. I wouldn't have been able to get the new keys in if the torsion bars didn't come free from the lower control arms
