    The point is that Mal’Ganis made Arthas believe this was the only option. I still have a sneaking suspicion however that the infected grain was impossible to stop at that time in the story to provide some kind of antidote. Were that true, then maybe Uther himself was in the wrong… even after all these years I have never heard of a story once someone became undead or awakened forsaken to recover and come back wholly with their body.

    Arthas did nothing wrong.

  • @doncoyote68
    @doncoyote68 2 года назад

    Arthas did "nothing wrong" at Stratholme. Stratholme is beset by a magically poisoned grain that turns people to undead over time. Arthas is there realizing this. Uthor Pendragon shows up. Arthas: "Uthor. WE MUST MUUUUUUURDER EVERYONE HERE" Uthor: "What." Arthas: "MURDER EVEROYNE!!!!!" Uthor: "Why?" Arthas: "DON'T DEFY ME! DO WHAT YOU ARE TOLD! KILL! KILL! MURDER! STAB!" Uthor: "No." Arthas: "THEN PISS OFF" Uthor heads off. Taking his army with him. Jain looks at this and goes: "Okay Arthas you're acting like a psycho moron, I'm off as well." So he looses, Uthor. Jaina. Uthor's army. He then takes his remaining forces and starts rampaging trough the streets, murdering every sick and also non sick civilian he can find. While ignoring the literal demon who has an army of undead and is also rampaging trough the streets, literally hastening the process of turning people into undead. So to summarize: He immediately seizes on a single solution without ever considering any alternative possibilities or even asking anyone else for advice. He literally fires his PALADIN. You know the holy warrior SPECIALIZED IN FIGHTING UNDEAD? The guy that would be ABSOLUTELY GREAT TO HAVE WITH YOU WHEN FIGHTIN UNDEAD, DEMONS, and a PLAGUE THAT TURNS PEOPLE INTO UNDEAD? The FIRST GUY you'd want to ASK SHIT ABOUT in regards to the UNDEAD CURSED DISEASE RAVAGING TROUGH THE CITY. He takes that guy and he FIRES HIM. He then alienates the MAGE PRODIGY who is his literal closes ally. The person that would be the most useful in figuring out the GODDAMNED MAGIC DISEASE that is ravaging trough the streets. He then proceeds to completely IGNORE THE GODDAMN FUCKING DEAMON in order to deal with the real threat: Low level, barely armed undead zombies and skeletons, and poisoned civilians. People actually looks at the above and they cannot comprehend anything he could have done different. There are large amounts of people who actually go 'Arthas did nothing wrong'. They can't imagine him asking the paladin - the literal anti undead holy warrior that has guided him since childhood - for advice. They can't imagine him even explaining the situation to that same paladin before firing him. They can't imagine him asking the damned mage prodigy for advice before deciding the murder everyone. They can't imagine him suggesting the possibility of identifying the non sick people and evacuating them before killing everybody. They cannot comprehend maybe you know, murdering the deamon and his horde first, as they are the bigger threat and they are literally hastening the progress of the disease and also ensuring anyone not afflicted by the poisoned grain also turn into undead. If Arthas had taking half a minute to explain the situation to Uthor and ask him and Jaina for advice he could have kept his two closest and most powerful allies next to him. And Uthor's knights. Half a fucking minute. If Arthas had asked for advice they could have figured out alternatives or at least actually considered alternatives before leaping on mass murder as the only real solution. If Arthas had attacked the demon army directly instead of running around playing murderhobo they could have bought themselves hours or days in which to save people. If Arthas had managed to actually save Stratholme or parts of it, it would have been a massive blow to the undead army trying to take over the country. Arthas did nothing right at Stratholme.

      Such a long post yet so much nonsense. Now I'm here to destroy every single one of your points. a. He immediately seizes on a single solution without ever considering any alternative possibilities or even asking anyone else for advice *Counter-argument: There's no time for him to do so because it's too late. He witnessed it firsthand the events of Hearthglen which preceded this event. At Hearthglen, he saw that when the grain been consumed, there's no hope left for the people that consumed as he himself said it here 0:27 that it's too late but of course you missed that while writing your comment dont you? b. He literally fires his PALADIN. You know the holy warrior SPECIALIZED IN FIGHTING UNDEAD *Counter-argument: Because that idiot of a paladin refused to do what he asked him to do even though this idiot of a paladin himself was there too during the events of Hearthglen. He saw what happened at Heartglen and decided that it's fine. It's okay to let the people turns into the undead and adding their numbers to the ranks. It's okay. This is fine. Nothing serious LOL. Whatever happened to Andorhal and Hearthglen wasnt enough to open his eyes that The Scourge are a very dangerous threat. Even more dangerous than The Old Horde during the First and Second War. So in other words, he, his paladin orders and the entire kingdom of Lordaeron didnt take The Scourge seriously unlike Arthas who knows how dangerous The Scourge can be c. The guy that would be ABSOLUTELY GREAT TO HAVE WITH YOU WHEN FIGHTIN UNDEAD, DEMONS, and a PLAGUE THAT TURNS PEOPLE INTO UNDEAD? *Counter-argument: What's the point? Uther refused Arthas' command so he refused to fight. What's the point of all the things you mentioned when he wont even fight to begin with? d. He then alienates the MAGE PRODIGY who is his literal closes ally. The person that would be the most useful in figuring out the GODDAMNED MAGIC DISEASE that is ravaging trough the streets *Counter-argument: Jaina even more than Uther had been with Arthas longer during this Scourge thing. She was there with him even in Andorhal YET she cant figure out anything about The Scourge because it's such a new thing that havent been seen or studied before by anyone in the The Eastern Kingdoms. This is proven when Antonidas (who was wiser than Jaina on that time) sent Jaina for the mission with Arthas to investigate a NEW THREAT (as perceived by Antonidas himself) that been ravaging the lands. So, it's a new thing that's such an alien concept to the mages of Eastern Kingdoms. And Jaina FAILED to figure out anything IMPORTANT about the Scourge during her time with Arthas at Andorhal and Heartglen so what's use of her to Arthas during the short times at Stratholme. AND REMEMBER! Arthas didnt ALIENATE Jaina BUT Jaina CHOSE TO LEAVE HIM 1:41 e. He then proceeds to completely IGNORE THE GODDAMN FUCKING DEMON in order to deal with the real threat: Low level, barely armed undead zombies and skeletons, and poisoned civilians *Counter-argument: This where I started to wonder whether you even thinking clearly before making this comment. If Arthas didnt do what you said he did, then the numbers of the undead will increase with the turning of the people of Stratholme (because of the plague). Mal'Ganis and The Scourge got the number advantages here. So if Arthas decided to go after Mal'Ganis face-to-face instead of stopping the plagued civilians from turning into the undead, Mal'Ganis will surely win because of the number advantages. Plus, Arthas would surely lost if he decided to fight Mal'Ganis face-to-face because Arthas at this time is still young and not strong enough. He only able to defeat Mal'Ganis at Northrend only after acquiring the Frostmourne f. They can't imagine him suggesting the possibility of identifying the non sick people and evacuating them before killing everybody *Counter-argument: There's not enough time for that as Arthas himself witnessed it at Hearthglen that whoever ate the grain, the turning into the undead will happen quickly. Arthas himself said this 0:31-0:36 but of course you missed it again just like the previous one g. If Arthas had asked for advice they could have figured out alternatives or at least actually considered alternatives before leaping on mass murder as the only real solution *Counter-argument: Arthas knows about the Scourge more than anyone else at this point SO WHY BOTHER ASKING ADVICE FROM OTHERS WHEN THEY KNOW LESS ABOUT IT COMPARED TO HIM as been proven by what Uther said when he was informed about the plague 0:37-0:47 just to show how clueless everyone else other than Arthas about the plague h. Arthas did nothing right at Stratholme *Counter-argument: Whether Arthas did nothing wrong or right is up for debate to this day BUT ONE THING FOR SURE. All your points about this event are nonsense and idiotic so lets just say that YOU DID EVERYTHING WRONG TO CLAIM THAT ARTHAS DID NOTHING RIGHT. Lol. So maybe next time think first before you decide to write something so long yet not much senses

      @abitdodgy2844 Nowhere in WC3 is it said that the undead can spread the plague. It is strictly shown as spreading through enchanted objects or devices built to handle it (plague cauldrons). More importantly all of the actual Zombies need to be raised through Necromancy whether it's Ner'zhul's magic or a Dreadlord's or a nameless Necromancer. Simply getting bitten by a Ghoul won't turn you nor would that same Ghoul killing you. That all means that in Stratholme the undead there would just be roaming around and eating/killing but no one would turn unless they actually are the plagued grain. The Scourge had no need for Stratholme anymore and culling it did not impede them at all in a notable way and Arthas did nothing to prevent the corpses from being raised (it was citizens doing the burnings of corpses not Arthas' troops) also the Scourge can use undead like Banshees. Stratholme strictly was Arthas' application to be Ner'zhul's new body.

    • @TimeMakerDotPH
      @TimeMakerDotPH Год назад

      @@hallowedbeyourdays It would work. Like what you say, it's a plague, it's not like a bite that would turn you into a zombie in just minutes, it's a plagued grain that when consumed, would turn you into a zombie within a day (though the process would take many hours). They could have set up barricades, outposts, guards, and alert systems everywhere. Villagers will be ordered to stay in their homes, giving them weapons if their relatives turn into zombies inside their households. The disaster in Hearthglen occurred because the defenders in the town were just Arthas' personal troops. Uther learned his lesson and he accompanied Arthas in his next mission, only to leave when he knew Arthas' plan was basically to slaughter everyone else in the city. With the Silver Hand on Arthas' back now, the quarantine wouldn't have been easily overrun. I mean Uther's troops just liberated a Hearthglen literally surrounded by the Scourge. Alienating Jaina didn't help as well, the woman had close connections with the Kirin Tor and she could have easily teleported curious wizards from Dalaran to Stratholme so the quarantine could have been implemented better and the plague could have been studied deeper. Of course Arthas' was a man of good intentions but he always want it to get it "his way," sidelining the viewpoints and expertise of Uther and Jaina. And clearly doing the opposite of the Alliance's main value: teamwork. Yes, collective decision-making is long process but it's the main reason why the Alliance won the Second War. Sure Stratholme can fall, Lordaeron can fall but humans can retreat, can think, can plan, can launch new offensives/counterattacks/crusade to retake Lordaeron. That's the same logic during the First War, Stormwind, having no desperate measure man like Arthas to lead them, quickly fell to the Horde but Stormwind was retaken after the Second War (though it took them long and many lives were lost). Also the Alliance was already unifying when the plague started, the isolated kingdom of Quel'Thalas began sending their elven priests and sorceresses. The kingdoms of Gilneas and Stromgarde who left the Alliance after the Second War, sent their battlegroups to aid in Jaina's expedition to Kalimdor. Arthas had everything that he needed to defeat the undead but he literally alienated ALMOST EVERYONE OF THEM, from Jaina and Uther up to Muradin (that really hurted the feelings of the Bronzebeard royal family in Ironforge). Also he was very stup¡d 🤣🤣🤣, he didn't entirely clean up his mess, it's the Stratholme's survivors who burned the corpse, not him (they could reanimate as skeleton warriors).

    • @hallowedbeyourdays

      @@celeb-seventeen To the best of my recollection, the Burning Legion's return was nothing to do with what the Lich King did. Archimonde used undead servants to mine gold and harvest timber, but the army was all demonic, not undead on its own. Arthas may have crunched a lot of people who could have weighed in a lot to the defense of the World Tree in Kalimdor, but the Undead Scourge weren't a crippling mechanism for the Burning Legion; at the hand of the ones who became Kaldorei night elves the Legion may have been defeated once already by Azeroth's defenders, but the Legion prefers to win with mass, not class. Strategically speaking if the Plague was a bioweapon used with intent then it was massive success to the Legion's eyes, who hurled the Throne at the planet to begin with.

    If Arthas had sailed to Kalimdor like Medivh instructed he wouldn't turn into a death knight and would be a valuable asset to the Alliance, not to mention that all those people he slaughtered would also join the side of the Alliance. The high elves wouldn't side with the horde or rely on demonic magic to keep surviving, and undead Sylvanas wouldn't exist. Of course, the plot need those shenanigans to be more interesting, but nevertheless Arthas egomaniacal behavior created a shitton of problems and enemies to the Alliance, the battle of mount Hyjal was much harder, lots of sacrifices had to be made to kill Archimonde, and the most annoying person of Warcraft universe was created: undead Sylvanas. The character "development" of Sylvanas alone shows that it was a very bad decision.

    • @Zero60133
      @Zero60133 2 года назад

      Arthas couldn't know how many were infected indeed, the plagued grain was distributed days before Arthas and his troops arrived, Scourge had time to prepare. Now if you look at it from WC3 gameplay perspective, every single citizen in Stratholme was infected, now of course that's just gameplay, and doesn't actually reflect lore 1:1, as seen in cutscene after Culling where Jaina talks to Uther about Arthas plan to go to Northrend, clearly some citizen survived and weren't turned. But Arthas did have reason to believe most were infected, and plague of undeath becomes active in what appears to be day or two. Which is not enough time to quarantine all the people, not enough time to run checks on who is sick and who isn't, not enough time to get elves or wizards to try their magic out on city that at the time had 20.000+ population. Even half of those people turning into feral undead would be a force reckoned with. They would swarm the region and spread their sickness. Arthas's mistake was not purging the city, it was going after Mal'Ganis in his deranged state of mind, choosing to face the Scourge alone on cold north with his limited numbers. Arthas needed Uther there, he needed him to be there for him. Stratholme was lost, lost to a powerful enemy, insidious and more dangerous than anything they faced before. If they instead kept to their senses, unified, and then went to Northrend. But it would be hard to unify people after the Purge, 20.000+ souls lost would be hard to pin on "foul sorcery". Scourge planned their stuff well.

      arthas got it right in the culling of stratholme. he simply got it wrong on bringing the 1st legion and 3rd fleet to northrend to hunt mal'ganis,he should have listened to prophet medivh and fled to kalimdor.

      @Zero60133 Undead in WC3 lore do not spread the plague so they don't turn others into undead. Undead are shown as raised through Necromancy, not as rising on their own like in zombie apocalypse scenarios. The Scourge needed to enchant objects with the plague so that Ner'zhul or his agents can raise those who died from the plague in mass. Stratholme being killed off didn't threaten the Scourge's operations at all. More undead to make from all the corpses, can summon ghosts if the bodies are burnt. And the Scourge already overran northern Lordaeron with no one driving them out at all.

    "Hello there, Master Uther. I take it Mal'ganis has been destroyed then. I must say you're here sooner than expected." "Take a seat, young Menethil. You are the Prince, but you are NOT granted the rank of my superior as a Paladin." "This is outrageous. It's UNFAIR! From my point of view, this entire city must be purged." "Arthas, my allegiance is to Lordaeron, to THE LIGHT!" "Damn it, Uther! Execute Order 66! I AM your future king!" "Not. Yet." "... It's treason, then." *autistic Light-powered spin* "So uncivilised. I will do what I must." "Don't lecture me, Uther! I've seen through the lies of the Paladins! I do not fear the undead as you do!" "Arthas, you're going down a path I can't follow!" "In order to ensure the security and continuing stability, the Order of the Silver Hand wil be suspended from service!" "... Only a Death Knight deals in absolutes." "Jaina? The Paladins turned against me, don't you turn against me! " "I'm sorry, Arthas. You're breaking my heart."

    So much awful shit wouldn't have happened if Uther and Jaina had just trusted he had a good reason and listened to Arthas and killed those citizens.
