After 1k hours on DLC and main game, I still cant get over this game

I slept on Dying Light 1 when it came out but picked it up last semester, it's a masterpiece.

I'm personally not the biggest fan of first class (the pacing is a bit too all over the place for my liking). But Magneto's theme is absolutely perfect. Hell, Magneto's characterisation in the movie was also nearly perfect.

For reference, the map of DL2 was mostly computer-generated with only a few landmarks placed by hand because the geniuses at Techland decided to remake the whole game under 1 year before release. The map ends up being extremely repetitive and doesn't feel like a believable city at all.

The only thing Dying Light 2 got right more than DL is the parkour. I love the long jump. But I dearly miss DL's grappling hook.

Dying Light was really good at making the world feel lived in. The atmosphere is really special. I remember playing it for the first half a year and I had a sealing fan in my room. So being in an aired apartment in the came and hearing the wind go through and feeling the breeze from the fan made it just so much better. And the micro situational stories you see throughout the game a couch in a room with syringes and leftover food packs, a crashed car with a dead body pined to a tree of wall... Dying Light 2 doesn't has much of that. Obviously there are two different groups of people who made the two Dying Light games.

This game really hit a sweet spot. I preordered dying light 2 and was bored, didnt like the new dwelling zombies, nor did I like the atmospgere and map. I haven't played it for more than 10 hours. It just doesn't feel the same.

I'm playing through it my second time in years with the 1975 postprocess filter enabled and I'm convinced this is the definitive way to play now. Climb that bridge and look at the city at night during a storm. IT'S A HELL OF A GRIND HOUSE VIBE.

This game aged like fine wine

DL1 has an atmosphere of dread, horror, and a dash of hope. Like you mentioned with the soundtrack its a rather soft soundtrack but it fits the tone so well and sets the mood the player should be feeling in the moment, I genuinely its one of the biggest factors as to why DL1 is just so pleasing with its atmosphere. DL2 on the other hand I personally feel is a great game and is becoming/became the successor to DL1 for its own reasons. Its atmosphere I feel is much more epic and really has that grand adventure tune to it, take its main menu theme for example. The game feels less of a survival experience and more of a skilled hero who battles monsters and villains and restores hope to all of vilidors/the loops citizens.

I love DL1, story was generic and a-bit cliche but otherwise just fantastic! DL2 on the other hand….what a dumpster fire! I uninstalled the game a month, maybe less after it released due to game breaking bugs. I re installed it over a year later, and I’m currently playing through it. It’s keeping me engaged purely for the gameplay as it is fun and I can’t deny there have been minor improvements in the combat and parkour. Other than that though DL2 is bettered by DL1 in every single way! Still to this day there’s no dynamic weather in DL2, other than a bit of drizzle during the day. All of the survivors are utterly pointless, narcissistic degenerates, that have no redeeming character qualities. There’s no interesting character arcs at all, the story is literally the culinary equivalent of a Luke warm cup of tea, with too much milk. Aiden’s charisma could lull me into a coma. And all in all, the bright, overly saturated, copy paste environment where 80% of the buildings cannot be explored and even if they can, tend to be half empty boxes all adds up to a shell of the ambiance created by the first game.

DL1 is 100 times better than DL 2

Besides the fact that we actually have a full blown Gotham City but with no Batman (which really friggin sucks shit) my biggest complaint is the suits. Most of them are really lame, they suck. The eternal Suits are the only one's I use.

I don’t care for Cass. She has that “cool factor” but otherwise the character is fairly shallow. She’s the daughter of two of the world’s deadliest assassins, she’s quite literally “the best fighter in all of the bat family above Batman and Nightwing” and she has super crazy training but she’s escaped the sort of programming by her mom to fight crime. She’s cool she just doesn’t strike me as interesting or deep on the level of Tim or Damian and especially not Jason and Dick. Batwoman isn’t particularly interesting to me, either. She’s really just a worse Batgirl character-wise. The DCAU really tried to push her and the Batwoman show absolutely killed that push which is kinda funny. Worst Bat Family character in the comics for sure.

Since the virals were the first stage of Infection, it must've been absolute hell for Harran until the biters came along

Something about this game. So damn fun lol, had it since release and still play once in a while. Can’t say the same for the sequel.

I just played through DL2 and while fun, the atmosphere just doesn't come anywhere close to DL1.
