Nowadays, people use film and movie interchangeably for a motion picture. However, film is also used a verb to record something. Movie is only a noun.

I read somewhere recently that industry people talk about films, whereas the public refer more to movies. I’m a pretty serious film watcher, so talk mainly about films. Movies, to me, are the blockbuster summer films that are just there for entertainment. We used to have a film industry until Star Wars came along, when suddenly films had to have bigger audiences by appealing to as wide a range of people as possible. That meant films were written and edited to get a classification that would have a bigger attendance. Films that, for a short while, could have an intelligent adult audience (mid/late 60s until Star Wars) suddenly disappeared (The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, The Exorcist, The Godfather, etc) and became either movies (romcoms, action, etc) or became specialist genres (horror, mafia, etc). We still lack a proper, adult thinking person’s film that might have some wide appeal.

there is a version of this tradicionaly made in east europe,out of corn, same cooking method texture nd everything ,the name is mamaliga in case u wanna check it ,very popular in romania,mostly among old people

The word film is used in a lot of other languages including English . A movie is used in only american English and doesn't exist in other languages as far as I know.

In Jamaica we have Turned Corn Meal. It is the yellow meal of the corn, not as fine as flour that is turned in a similar way. We add coconut milk, escallion. salt. It is loved with steamed fish. It is iur African connection.
