    Just finding this video. I'm in grad school and we are practicing sand trays today and tomorrow with classmates. I would love any info you can share. We did a quick trial last night and it was incredible how it got right to the heart of things with my classmate.

    My favorite directive is almost non-directive. I show them the different sand trays I have in the room, the miniatures, and sand toys (buckets, shovels, rakes, funnels, etc.) and then encourage them to explore the materials as they would like. Some of my clients, especially those who have been abused, seem to be afraid of "doing the wrong thing" and are reluctant to try new things unless they have been given some reassurance. In those cases, I tell them that as long as they are safe, there is no right or wrong way to use the sand, that each person uses the sand in different ways depending on what they feel like doing that day. After that, I simply follow the child's lead. Only if the client seems to need some ideas will I offer some suggestions. I would like to receive the list of directives I could use in those situations.

    I have not introduced sand to my adult clients. It is probably due to me being nervous about their reaction. I think your script would be so helpful.

    I used this recently with a child who is struggling with fears, I asked him to show me what safety looked like, then I asked him to show me what the fear looked like. All items were in the sand together. It was very interesting what he selected! I would love to see your 50 directives!

  • @artandemotion6559
    @artandemotion6559 2 года назад

    One of my initial directive is "Make a space that represents how you are today", but my favorite is the re-scripting directive (I use sometimes, not always)"Look from a distance what would you change to make this space better" (it can be the atmosphere, the aesthetics, structure) etc... then sometimes we try to associate with the change, and what it tells

    For kids why favorite directive is "Show me what your Brain feels when..." For adults My directives can often be as simple as "Show me what your heart wants to tell me" if we haven't yet picked a specific direction of work.

    I haven't had any issues introducing it to adults so far, I introduce it right after mindfulness breathing exercises and explain that touching the sand also helps in grounding, mental and physical self-awareness, and after gradually in several sessions introduce natural materials then the figurines, works for me . The adults love the feeling of the soft sand after the mindful breathing exercises.
