Hi there, you have found JMPsavescars welcome! My mission is to find, and save as many discarded relics from the past as possible. I created this channel as a way to share my interesting skills and job with as many people as i can. Creating and repairing impractical yet notable toys one at a time. If i cant get what i need i make it. Racecars, vintage icons, snowmobiles, dirtbikes, boats, airplanes, muscle cars and more. if you are interested in any of these subjects or you have a suggestion drop a comment and ill be sure to try to bring you something on the subject! at the end of the day this is my job and i might as well share it with the world wide audience and give these machines the peoples attention, after they have lived their first life its my job to bring them into the automotive afterlife. see you there!
The art of efficiency in auto restoration metalwork #automobile
Here is a small glimpse at the process of auto restoration, specifically metal work and repair. as time passes so does the methods of old giving way to new more high tech processes. however the old ways will allways work and knowing the combination of skills and tools is vital. the most important skill in this process of organising the work flow to achieve the desired result in the shortest time. enjoy and happy holidays to all those who support this channel, welcome and thankyou to those who just found me. im here for you guys and i appreciate the support!

I cut the corner of a plastic bag off. Put end of cable and housing in it and wrap it tight with rubber band. Hang cable up with plastic bag acting as funnel and put oil in it. Hang overnight and oil will be dripping out other end by morning.

haha! The short test. Nice.
Its uncommon for a solder joint to have to encounter that senario but it goes to show you the soldered joint is not the failure point. The arc wherever it is has oxygen and that is where the smoke will exit every time.
@@jmpsavescars in electronics we call that "magic smoke"
Interesting. Hydraulic it in there! Nice. I usually take my squirt can and dribble the length of the exterior of those cables. It seems to seep in thru the housing and still help. On this Pettibone Multi-krane I have serviced over the years, when the large Morse style throttle cable gets stiff, I remove it and hang it vertically in the shop during the winter lay-up. Every day walking by it, I dribble ATF in the end. After a month, the oil makes it's way thru the 14 foot cable and it works like new again for another 10 years. Tricks in playing with garbage.
@@JIMO415 ive found many uses for old gloves over the years. That cable didnt want to let the oil through the grease that had gone in. Any bit i can easily improve a part before it goes in helps in the end. Atf mixed with moly grease might be the hot ticket. Thanks and happy holidays
Yup, the fone hundred and fifty is the best selling vehicle in the world. I have an f dash three hundred and fifty myself.
That has to be one of the shittiest solder joints I've ever seen.
@@Mike-Sharkey im so glad you chimed in mike, ill have you know that is the strongest solder joint, the exact spec of ford chevy dodge. I used fire and singed the 40 year old toyota insulation and everyones gotta have a conniption fit. Ill make a special video on it just for you.
@@jmpsavescars Ha ha ha! Yeah, let's see that joint under a microscope! You're over heating the solder, if it's flux core, you're vaporizing the flux, allowing oxidization, you've got a giant steel thermal sink on the one side while you roast the other side, and you contaminate the while thing with the insulation vapors. Yeah, first class job! Ha ha ha!

Avoid Tons Of Stress With Your 2014 Subaru Forester XT 2.0 Turbo! Ah...I had a 1961 Scout for a woods runner before I got my license. I put over 1000 miles on that thing all in low range at 5 to 10 mph in a couple of years in my little section of woods! Miss it. That torch trick saved me lots of time removing Bondo on my Willys years ago. Also with a torch, I stripped all the flaky window trim on the outside of my house, down to bare wood to be able to start over with a clean slate to prime and paint! Two all wood garage doors as well. Little smoky at times.

What heads and cam was used?
Gm performace ls3 cnc ported. Milled to 66cc. Comp nsr drift cam, 55-777-11. Comp shaft rockers. And a whole bag of tricks
Crazy with such a small spring u managed that rpm I’m doing a similar build my self iron block lq4 bored to 4.065 destroked as well with a 250/266 gpi specd cam and hybrid ls7 heads that work with 4.000in bore and are cnc’d hoping I can get close to 550whp revving to 8200rpms going into a 1st gen s10 I’m stoked !
@ the shaft rockers have lighter rockers, the gm race spec short travel lifters have less weight, the valves themselves are lighter than standard, the drift cam is a low shock dual profile. The blue beehive springs are more than capable. That combo spun to 9k with no float, keeping oil fed to it proved to be the issue. Resolved with a accusump and a boundry racing pump. Ended up putting a 6.0 crank back in and the dyno comparison between the two strokes and how the car drives is nuts. Basically the short stroke is a advantage if your gearing and vehicle weight are long and light. The hp stayed the same and the tourque developed earlier. Eseentially moved ve down 1500rpm.
Crazy how that works out
What was your compression ratio
I really enjoy your teaching approach to these videos. Saving cars is tricky, but having the right expectations going in is so important.
@1half.fastgarage thankyou and well said, its a science and it can be made efficient but the risks must be evaluated and controlled. Im happy to share my mistakes and breakthroughs!
Somehow This Is Not Mentioned In The Subaru Commercials About (LOVE) Is What Makes A Subaru A Subaru. This Job Costs The Customer $900 For Each Hub That The Parts Cost "Genuine" Subaru $175 And Labor $725. Back In The Day Wheel Bearings Cost $20 And A Little Grease Now It's $900 Dollar Wheel Hubs And Subaru Got To Love That! 600 Thousand Mile GM Astro/Safari Vans Never Need These Parts So Re-Engineering Has Been Done! On Everything!
@@dugeep haha yeah they are great vehicles but the rear bearings for sure being ball type is just not up to the task and when you need to replace its a puzzle of cost! If they get retourqued after the first 60k they dont fail.
This Job Is Cake If You You Know The Trick! I Know Its A Douche If Your In The Salt Belt With Rust! My First One Took Days Only To Pull The Bearings Out Then Nothing To Use A Puller Or Slide Hammer! So If You Look At The Top Of The Hub Where It Fits In The Knuckle There Is A Space About 1/2 Inch To Hammer A Chisel In On The Top Right Using a 1/2 Inch Chisel And Machinist Hammer Or Small Sledge Hammer And Keep Hitting It And It Will Break Free! Be Sure To Remove The Wheel Sensor First! The Other Side Took Me 3 Hours Not Days And All In One Piece! That's Start To Finish! Rust Inhibitor Is Useless! Can't Use Heat! It's Almost Using The Shawshank Redemption Method! The Chisel Only Fits In One Spot, Top Left, Thin Chisel 1/2 Inch Wide And Keep Hitting It And It Will Set You Free In About 20 Minutes! Oh! That Feeling When You See A Tiny Gap :O) Clean/Scrap Off All The Rust And Butter It Up With Lots Of Anti-Seize Because The Next One In 100K Miles Will Fall Out. Thanks For The Windshield Washer Pump Video! Super Helpful
Thanks for that breakdown. There is an expensive hub grappler lever too that can make thw job easy but doesnt make sense to buy. Ive allways found you can get them to twist a bit just after they break free. The only solution is to coat in grease on reassembly just like anything on suspension grease is your friend. Your welcome!
Yes! Thank You For This Video! Our 2014 XT Just Started The Same Problem And I Would Suspect Has All The Same Issues! Man This Video Is A Time Saver Knowing All The Part Numbers Prior To Starting The Job! Of Course This Happens When It's 7 Degrees Outside And Snowing With Salt When You Really Need The Washer :O( Ours Might Just Be The Plastic Y In The Hose Because Its Pumping But Might Replace The Pump Anyway Because For The First Time I Used Garbage Washer Fluid That Might Have Frozen In The Pump And Lines Because (Rain-X) -20 Degrees Wasn't Available. We Also Have The Check Engine, Hill Assist, etc. Problem When Ever It Gets Very Cold And It's Not The Gas Cap? Well It Might Be The Gas Cap Seal? Clean And Perfect Looking But It only Seems To Be A Problem When It's Well Below Zero.
When i did that repair i said this is going to be a thing so might as well save others some time

@@GreaseMonkGarage the issue is having to knock it in once your done pulling the dent. Trust me it binds right up then the pin bents. A collet style is much easier to use but this mod makes this work
After review of the play, the previous body man thought he needed to apply self etch before the next coat of primer or sealer, that is a foul. The paintjob must be removed and repeated! Self etch counteracts the curing of other topcoats when not allowed to cure and is only needed where metal is showing.

@@darkartauto1511 it takes a bit of finess but it does work really well, quick and cheap! Your welcome and thank you for the kind words. Its why i share
i used an extra wide razorblade scraper on my car. it worked extremely well
In a pair of vice grips yes works great. The thick chisel gives alot more control because it wont catch
Try Berryman's Chemtool carb cleaner. Spray it on...let it sit about 30 seconds, hit it again....and then use a sharp putty knife. Peels off like butter.
Im assuming no torch with this method haha
the body may have been sprayed with spray putty , thats why its so thick
After really studying it ive found the paint separates between a sealer and a gray primer. Both are smooth as glass. No sanding scratches vissible. Maybe the sealer was sprayed to thick, to soon? Not sure. Could even be incompatible products
You're lucky to have found a Scout with enough body left to work with.
Yeah being asked to repaint a scout is a scary proposition. This one is on the scout scale a 7. When it was originally “saved” it was like 2.8!
For those who are interested this truck is a 1970 with a 304 and a three speed. Stay tuned for some auto body witchcraft in this series.
I was gonna ask! Very cool. Love those old binders. Never clicked so fast when I saw it was an international. Cool trick too! I'll have to remember that if I run into a good situation for it.
