    Thanks very much Mr Williams for the great talk. One thing I noticed though -- you mentioned iodine allergy as a contraindication for ICGA, although it's now well established that there's no such thing as true "iodine allergy" -- clearly iodine is essential to life and our immune system is incapable of mounting a true allergic response to iodine (immunoglobulins don't stick to single ions). People can have allergies to other allergens in shellfish but this is no longer considered a contraindication to ICGA. Just FYI in case you wanted to update your talk in future.

    What is the pathway to practice in ophthalmology in the uk for international ophthalmologist.After PLAB and getting registered will they be eligible to fight for ST1 or ST3 directly? please kindly reply.Thank you.

    • @drcasper711
      @drcasper711 6 лет назад

      Technically yes, after PLAB and GMC registration you can apply for ST1 level if you have less than 18 months of experience in ophthalmology or ST3 level if you have more. Practically, you need to meet the labour market test requirements, which means priority will be given to UK and Europeans(until now, BREXIT is not official yet). You can check last year's competition ratios from these links: ST1: specialtytraining.hee.nhs.uk/portals/1/Content/Resource%20Bank/Competition%20Ratio's/Competition%20Ratios%202017%20ST1.pdf ST3: specialtytraining.hee.nhs.uk/portals/1/Content/Resource%20Bank/Competition%20Ratio's/Competition%20Ratios%202017%20ST3.pdf

    Can you tell us about the other royal college exams, especially Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. The GMC website mentions that it is a recognised qualification. But everyone says that the FRCophth is the only recognised exam to become a consultant, can you give more information about this.

      @welshophthalmictraineessoc8004 6 лет назад

      Completing the FRCOphth exam is essential for Ophthalmology training in the UK. We can do the other available exams but only in addition to the FRCOphth. You would have to look at specific job specifications for consultant posts for ophthalmologists in the UK as to what exams they require.
